Chapter 16 ¹ Now Sarai𐤅𐤔𐤓𐤉 Abram's𐤀𐤁𐤓𐤌 wife𐤀𐤔𐤕 bare𐤉𐤋𐤃𐤄 him no𐤋𐤀 children: and she had an handmaid,𐤔𐤐𐤇𐤄 an Egyptian,𐤌𐤑𐤓𐤉𐤕 whose name𐤅𐤔𐤌𐤄 was Hagar.𐤄𐤂𐤓 Σάρα δὲ ἡ γυνὴ Ἀβρὰμ οὐκ ἔτικτεν αὐτῷ ἦν δὲ αὐτῇ παιδίσκη Αἰγυπτία ᾗ ὄνομα Ἁγάρ. ² And Sarai𐤔𐤓𐤉 said𐤅𐤕𐤀𐤌𐤓 unto Abram,𐤀𐤁𐤓𐤌 Behold now, the Lord𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 hath restrained me𐤏𐤑𐤓𐤍𐤉 from bearing:𐤌𐤋𐤃𐤕 I pray thee, go in𐤁𐤀 unto my maid;𐤔𐤐𐤇𐤕𐤉 it may𐤀𐤅𐤋𐤉 be that I may obtain children𐤀𐤁𐤍𐤄 by her. And Abram𐤀𐤁𐤓𐤌 hearkened𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤌𐤏 to the voice𐤋𐤒𐤅𐤋 of Sarai.𐤔𐤓𐤉 εἶπεν δὲ Σάρα πρὸς Ἀβράμ ἰδοὺ συνέκλεισέν με Κύριος τοῦ μὴ τίκτειν· εἴσελθε οὖν πρὸς τὴν παιδίσκην μου, ἴνα τεκνοποιήσεις ἐξ αὐτῆς. ὑπήκουσεν δὲ Ἀβρὰμ τῆς φωνῆς αὐτῆς. ³ And Sarai𐤔𐤓𐤉 Abram's𐤀𐤁𐤓𐤌 wife𐤀𐤔𐤕 took𐤅𐤕𐤒𐤇 Hagar𐤄𐤂𐤓 her maid𐤔𐤐𐤇𐤕𐤄 the Egyptian,𐤄𐤌𐤑𐤓𐤉𐤕 after𐤌𐤒𐤑 Abram𐤀𐤁𐤓𐤌 had dwelt𐤋𐤔𐤁𐤕 ten𐤏𐤔𐤓 years𐤔𐤍𐤉𐤌 in the land𐤁𐤀𐤓𐤑 of Canaan,𐤊𐤍𐤏𐤍 and gave𐤅𐤕𐤕𐤍 her to her husband𐤀𐤉𐤔𐤄 Abram𐤋𐤀𐤁𐤓𐤌 to be his wife.𐤋𐤀𐤔𐤄 καὶ λαβοῦσα Σάρα ἡ γυνὴ Ἀβρὰμ Ἁγὰρ τὴν Αἰγυπτίαν τὴν ἑαυτῆς παιδίσκην, μετὰ δέκα ἔτη τοῦ οἰκῆσαι Ἀβρὰμ ἐν γῇ Χανάαν, καὶ ἔδωκεν αὐτὴν τῷ Ἀβρὰμ ἀνδρὶ αὐτῆς αὐτῷ γυναῖκα. ⁴ And he went in𐤅𐤉𐤁𐤀 unto Hagar,𐤄𐤂𐤓 and she conceived:𐤅𐤕𐤄𐤓 and when she saw𐤅𐤕𐤓𐤀 that she had conceived,𐤄𐤓𐤕𐤄 her mistress𐤂𐤁𐤓𐤕𐤄 was despised𐤅𐤕𐤒𐤋 in her eyes.𐤁𐤏𐤉𐤍𐤉𐤄 καὶ εἰσῆλθεν πρὸς Ἁγάρ, καὶ συνέλαβεν· καὶ ἴδεν ὅτι ἐν γαστρὶ ὦι, καὶ ἡ κυρία ἐναντίον αὐτῆς. ⁵ And Sarai𐤔𐤓𐤉 said𐤅𐤕𐤀𐤌𐤓 unto Abram,𐤀𐤁𐤓𐤌 My wrong𐤇𐤌𐤎𐤉 be upon thee: I have given𐤍𐤕𐤕𐤉 my maid𐤔𐤐𐤇𐤕𐤉 into thy bosom;𐤁𐤇𐤉𐤒𐤊 and when she saw𐤅𐤕𐤓𐤀 that she had conceived,𐤄𐤓𐤕𐤄 I was despised𐤅𐤀𐤒𐤋 in her eyes:𐤁𐤏𐤉𐤍𐤉𐤄 the Lord𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 judge𐤉𐤔𐤐𐤈 between me and thee. εἶπεν δὲ Σάρα πρὸς Ἀβράμ Ἀδικοῦμαι ἐκ σοῦ· ἐγὼ δέδωκα τὴν παιδίσκην μου εἰς τὸν κόλπον σου· ἰδοῦσα δὲ ὄτι ἐν γαατρὶ ὦι, ἠτιμάσθην ἐναντίον αὐτῆς. κρίναι ὁ θεὸς ἀνὰ μέσον ἐμοῦ καὶ σοῦ. ⁶ But Abram𐤀𐤁𐤓𐤌 said𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 unto Sarai,𐤔𐤓𐤉 Behold, thy maid𐤔𐤐𐤇𐤕𐤊 is in thy hand;𐤁𐤉𐤃𐤊 do𐤏𐤔𐤉 to her as it pleaseth thee.𐤄𐤈𐤅𐤁 𐤁𐤏𐤉𐤍𐤉𐤊 And when Sarai𐤔𐤓𐤉 dealt hardly with𐤅𐤕𐤏𐤍𐤄 her, she fled𐤅𐤕𐤁𐤓𐤇 from her face.𐤌𐤐𐤍𐤉𐤄 εἶπεν δὲ Ἀβρὰμ πρὸς Σάραν Ἴδου ἡ παιδίσκη Α σου ἐναντίον σου· χρῶ αὐτῇ ὡς δ’ ἄν σοι ἀρεστὸν ᾖ. καὶ ἐκάκωσεν αὐτὴν Σάρα, καὶ ἀπέδρα ἀπὸ προσώπου αὐτῆς. ⁷ And the angel𐤌𐤋𐤀𐤊 of the Lord𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 found her𐤅𐤉𐤌𐤑𐤀𐤄 by a fountain𐤏𐤉𐤍 of water𐤄𐤌𐤉𐤌 in the wilderness,𐤁𐤌𐤃𐤁𐤓 by the fountain𐤄𐤏𐤉𐤍 in the way𐤁𐤃𐤓𐤊 to Shur.𐤔𐤅𐤓 εὗρεν δὲ αὐτὴν ἄἡλος κυρίου τοῦ θεοῦ ἐπὶ τῆς πηγῆς τοῦ ὕδατος ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ, ἐπὶ τῆς πηγῆς ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ Σούρ. ⁸ And he said,𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 Hagar,𐤄𐤂𐤓 Sarai's𐤔𐤓𐤉 maid,𐤔𐤐𐤇𐤕 whence𐤀𐤉 camest thou?𐤁𐤀𐤕 and whither wilt thou go? And she said,𐤅𐤕𐤀𐤌𐤓 I flee𐤁𐤓𐤇𐤕 from the face𐤌𐤐𐤍𐤉 of my mistress𐤂𐤁𐤓𐤕𐤉 Sarai.𐤔𐤓𐤉 καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῇ ὁ ἄγγελος κυρίου Ἅγαρ παιδίσκη Σάρας, πόθεν ἔρχῃ; καὶ ποῦ πορεύῃ; καὶ εἶπεν Ἀπὸ προσώπου Σάραςτῆς κυρίας μου ἐγὼ ἀποδιδράσκω. ⁹ And the angel𐤌𐤋𐤀𐤊 of the Lord𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 said𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 unto her, Return𐤔𐤅𐤁𐤉 to thy mistress,𐤂𐤁𐤓𐤕𐤊 and submit𐤅𐤄𐤕𐤏𐤍𐤉 thyself under her hands.𐤉𐤃𐤉𐤄 εἶπεν δὲ αὐτῇ ὁ ἄγγελος κυρίου Ἀποστράφηθι πρὸς τὴν κυρίαν σου καὶ ταπεινώθητι ὑπὸ τὰς Α χεῖρας αὐτῆς. ¹⁰ And the angel𐤌𐤋𐤀𐤊 of the Lord𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 said𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 unto her, I will multiply𐤄𐤓𐤁𐤄 thy seed𐤆𐤓𐤏𐤊 exceedingly,𐤀𐤓𐤁𐤄 that it shall not be numbered𐤉𐤎𐤐𐤓 for multitude.𐤌𐤓𐤁 καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῇ ὁ ἄγγελος κυρίου πληθύνων πληθυνῶ τὸ σπέρμα σου, καὶ οὐκ ἀριθμήσεται ἀπὸ τοῦ πλήθους. ¹¹ And the angel𐤌𐤋𐤀𐤊 of the Lord𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 said𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 unto her, Behold,𐤄𐤍𐤊 thou art with child,𐤄𐤓𐤄 and shalt bear𐤅𐤉𐤋𐤃𐤕 a son,𐤁𐤍 and shalt call𐤅𐤒𐤓𐤀𐤕 his name𐤔𐤌𐤅 Ishmael;𐤉𐤔𐤌𐤏𐤀𐤋 because the Lord𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 hath heard𐤔𐤌𐤏 thy affliction.𐤏𐤍𐤉𐤊 καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῇ ὁ ἄγγελος κυρίου ἰδοὺ σὺ ἐν γαστρὶ ἔχεις, καὶ τέξῃ υἱόν, καὶ κολέσεις τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ Ἰσμαήλ, ὅτι ἐπήκουσεν κύριος τῆ ταπεινώσει σου. ¹² And he will be a wild𐤐𐤓𐤀 man;𐤀𐤃𐤌 his hand𐤉𐤃𐤅 will be against every man, and every man's hand𐤅𐤉𐤃 against him; and he shall dwell𐤉𐤔𐤊𐤍 in the presence𐤐𐤍𐤉 of all his brethren.𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤅 οὗτος ἔσται ἄγροικος ἄνθρωρος αἱ χεφες αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ Α πάντας καὶ αἱ χεῖπες πάντων ἐπ’ αὐτόν, καὶ κατὰ πρόσωπον πόντων τῶν ἀδελφῶν αὐτοῦ κατοικήσει. ¹³ And she called𐤅𐤕𐤒𐤓𐤀 the name𐤔𐤌 of the Lord𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 that spake𐤄𐤃𐤁𐤓 unto her, Thou God𐤀𐤋 seest me:𐤓𐤀𐤉 for she said,𐤀𐤌𐤓𐤄 Have I also here𐤄𐤋𐤌 looked𐤓𐤀𐤉𐤕𐤉 after him𐤀𐤇𐤓𐤉 that seeth me? καὶ ἐκάλεσεν Ἀγἀρ τὸ ὄνομα τοῦ τοῦ λαλοῦντος πρὸς αὐτήν Σὺ ὁ θεὸς ὁ ἐφιδών με· ὅτι εἶπεν καὶ γὰρ ἐνώπιον ἴδον ὀφθέντα μοι. ¹⁴ Wherefore the well𐤋𐤁𐤀𐤓 was called𐤒𐤓𐤀 Beer–lahai–roi;𐤁𐤀𐤓 behold, it is between Kadesh𐤒𐤃𐤔 and Bered.𐤁𐤓𐤃 ἕνεκεν τούτου ἐκάλεσεν τὸ Φρέαρ οὗ ἐνώπιον ἴδον· ἰδοὺ ἀνὰ μέσον Καδἠς καὶ ἀνὰ μέσον Βάραδ. ¹⁵ And Hagar𐤄𐤂𐤓 bare𐤅𐤕𐤋𐤃 Abram𐤋𐤀𐤁𐤓𐤌 a son:𐤁𐤍 and Abram𐤀𐤁𐤓𐤌 called𐤅𐤉𐤒𐤓𐤀 his son's𐤁𐤍𐤅 name,𐤔𐤌 which Hagar𐤄𐤂𐤓 bare,𐤉𐤋𐤃𐤄 Ishmael.𐤉𐤔𐤌𐤏𐤀𐤋 καὶ ἔτεκεν Ἁγὰρ τῷ Ἀβρὰμ υἱόν, καὶ ἐκάλεσεν Ἀβρὰμ τὸ ὄνομα υἱοῦ αὐτοῦ, ὃν ἕνεκεν αὐτῷ Ἁγάρ, Ἰσμαήλ. Ἀβρὰμ δὲ ἦν ὀγδοήκοντα ἔξ ἐτῶν ἡνίκα ἔτεκεν Ἁγὰρ τὸν Ἰσμαὴλ τῷ Ἀβράμ. ¹⁶ And Abram𐤅𐤀𐤁𐤓𐤌 was fourscore𐤔𐤌𐤍𐤉𐤌 𐤔𐤍𐤄 and six𐤅𐤔𐤔 years𐤔𐤍𐤉𐤌 old,𐤁𐤍 when Hagar𐤄𐤂𐤓 bare𐤁𐤋𐤃𐤕 Ishmael𐤉𐤔𐤌𐤏𐤀𐤋 to Abram.𐤋𐤀𐤁𐤓𐤌 𐤎
