Chapter 42 ¹ Now when Jacob𐤉𐤏𐤒𐤁 saw𐤅𐤉𐤓𐤀 that there was𐤉𐤔 corn𐤔𐤁𐤓 in Egypt,𐤁𐤌𐤑𐤓𐤉𐤌 Jacob𐤉𐤏𐤒𐤁 said𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 unto his sons,𐤋𐤁𐤍𐤉𐤅 Why do ye look𐤕𐤕𐤓𐤀𐤅 one upon another? Ἰδὼν δὲ Ἰακὼβ ὃτι ἐστὶν πρᾶαις ἐν Αἰγύπτῳ εἶπεν τοῖς τοῖς αὐτοῦ ἵνα τί ῥᾳθυμεῖτε ; ² And he said,𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 Behold, I have heard𐤔𐤌𐤏𐤕𐤉 that there is𐤉𐤔 corn𐤔𐤁𐤓 in Egypt:𐤁𐤌𐤑𐤓𐤉𐤌 get you down𐤓𐤃𐤅 thither, and buy𐤅𐤔𐤁𐤓𐤅 for us from thence; that we may live,𐤅𐤍𐤇𐤉𐤄 and not die.𐤍𐤌𐤅𐤕 ἰδοὺ ἀκήκοα ὅτι ἐστὶν σῖτος ἐν Αἰγύπτῳ· κατάβητε ἐκεῖ καὶ πρίασθε ἡμῖν μικρὰ βρώματα, ἳνα ζῶμεν καὶ μὴ ἀποθόνωμεν. ³ And Joseph's𐤉𐤅𐤎𐤐 ten𐤏𐤔𐤓𐤄 brethren𐤀𐤇𐤉 went down𐤅𐤉𐤓𐤃𐤅 to buy𐤋𐤔𐤁𐤓 corn𐤁𐤓 in Egypt.𐤌𐤌𐤑𐤓𐤉𐤌 κατέβησαν δὲ οἱ ἀδελφοὶ ἸωσὴΦ οἱ δέκα πρίασθαι σῖτον ἐξ Αἰγύπτου· ⁴ But Benjamin,𐤁𐤍𐤉𐤌𐤉𐤍 Joseph's𐤉𐤅𐤎𐤐 brother,𐤀𐤇𐤉 Jacob𐤉𐤏𐤒𐤁 sent𐤔𐤋𐤇 not with his brethren;𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤅 for he said,𐤀𐤌𐤓 Lest peradventure𐤐𐤍 mischief𐤀𐤎𐤅𐤍 befall him.𐤉𐤒𐤓𐤀𐤍𐤅 τὶν δὲ Βενιαμεὶν τὸν ἀδελφὸν ἸωσὴΦ οὐκ ἀπέστειλεν μετὰ τῶν ἀδελφῶν αὐτοῦ· εἶπεν γάρ Μή ποτε συμβῇ αὐτῷ μαλακια. ⁵ And the sons𐤁𐤍𐤉 of Israel𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋 came𐤅𐤉𐤁𐤀𐤅 to buy𐤋𐤔𐤁𐤓 corn among𐤁𐤕𐤅𐤊 those that came:𐤄𐤁𐤀𐤉𐤌 for the famine𐤄𐤓𐤏𐤁 was in the land𐤁𐤀𐤓𐤑 of Canaan.𐤊𐤍𐤏𐤍 ἦλθον δὲ οἱ υἱοὶ Ἰσραὴλ ἀγοράζειν μετὰ τῶν ἐρχομένων· ἦν γὰρ ὁ λιμὸς ἐν γῇ Χανάαν. ⁶ And Joseph𐤅𐤉𐤅𐤎𐤐 was the governor𐤄𐤔𐤋𐤉𐤈 over the land,𐤄𐤀𐤓𐤑 and he it was that sold𐤄𐤌𐤔𐤁𐤉𐤓 to all the people𐤏𐤌 of the land:𐤄𐤀𐤓𐤑 and Joseph's𐤉𐤅𐤎𐤐 brethren𐤀𐤇𐤉 came,𐤅𐤉𐤁𐤀𐤅 and bowed down𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤕𐤇𐤅𐤅 themselves before him with their faces𐤀𐤐𐤉𐤌 to the earth.𐤀𐤓𐤑𐤄 ἸωσὴΦ δὲ ἦν ἄρχων τῆς γῆς, οὗτος ἐπώλει παντὶ τῷ λαῷ τῆς γῆς· ἐλθόντες δὲ οἱ άσελΦοὶ ἸωσὴΦ πρόσ’· εκύνησαν αὐτῷ ἐπὶ πρόσωπον ἔπι τὴν γῆν. ⁷ And Joseph𐤉𐤅𐤎𐤐 saw𐤅𐤉𐤓𐤀 his brethren,𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤅 and he knew𐤅𐤉𐤊𐤓𐤌 them, but made himself strange𐤅𐤉𐤕𐤍𐤊𐤓 unto them, and spake𐤅𐤉𐤃𐤁𐤓 roughly𐤒𐤔𐤅𐤕 unto them; and he said𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 unto them, Whence𐤌𐤀𐤉𐤍 come𐤁𐤀𐤕𐤌 ye? And they said,𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓𐤅 From the land𐤌𐤀𐤓𐤑 of Canaan𐤊𐤍𐤏𐤍 to buy𐤋𐤔𐤁𐤓 food.𐤀𐤊𐤋 ἰδὼν δὲ ἸωσὴΦ τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς αὐτοῦ ἐπέγνω, καὶ ἠλλοτριοῦτο ἀπ’ αὐτῶν καὶ ἐλάλησεν αὐτοῖς σκληρά, καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς ΙΙόθεν ἥκατε ; οἱ δὲ εἶπαν Ἐκ γῆς Χανάαν, ἀγοράσαι βρώματα. ⁸ And Joseph𐤉𐤅𐤎𐤐 knew𐤅𐤉𐤊𐤓 his brethren,𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤅 but they knew𐤄𐤊𐤓𐤄𐤅 not him. ἐπέγνω δὲ ἸωσὴΦ τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς αὐτοῦ, αὐτοὶ δὲ οὐκ ἐπέγνωςαν αὐτόν· ⁹ And Joseph𐤉𐤅𐤎𐤐 remembered𐤅𐤉𐤆𐤊𐤓 the dreams𐤄𐤇𐤋𐤌𐤅𐤕 which he dreamed𐤇𐤋𐤌 of them, and said𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 unto them, Ye are spies;𐤌𐤓𐤂𐤋𐤉𐤌 to see𐤋𐤓𐤀𐤅𐤕 the nakedness𐤏𐤓𐤅𐤕 of the land𐤄𐤀𐤓𐤑 ye are come.𐤁𐤀𐤕𐤌 καὶ ἐμνήσθη ἸωσὴΦ τῶν ἐνυπνίων ὦν ἴδεν αὐτός. καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Κατάσκοποί ἐστε, κατα νοῆσαι τὰ ἴχνη τῆς χώρας ἥκατε. ¹⁰ And they said𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓𐤅 unto him, Nay, my lord,𐤀𐤃𐤍𐤉 but to buy𐤋𐤔𐤁𐤓 food𐤀𐤊𐤋 are thy servants𐤅𐤏𐤁𐤃𐤉𐤊 come.𐤁𐤀𐤅 δὲ εἶπαν οὐχί, κύριε· οἱ παῖδές σου ἤλθομεν πριάσασθαι βρώματα· ¹¹ We𐤍𐤇𐤍𐤅 are all one𐤀𐤇𐤃 man's𐤀𐤉𐤔 sons;𐤁𐤍𐤉 we are true𐤊𐤍𐤉𐤌 men, thy servants𐤏𐤁𐤃𐤉𐤊 are no spies.𐤌𐤓𐤂𐤋𐤉𐤌 πάντες ἐσμὲν υἱοὶ ἑνὸς ἀνθρώπου, εἰρηνικοί ἐσμεν· οὐκ εἰσὶν οἱ παῖδές σου κατάσκοποι. ¹² And he said𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 unto them, Nay, but to see𐤋𐤓𐤀𐤅𐤕 the nakedness𐤏𐤓𐤅𐤕 of the land𐤄𐤀𐤓𐤑 ye are come.𐤁𐤀𐤕𐤌 εἶπεν δὲ αὐτοῖς οὐχί, ἀλλὰ τὰ ἴχνη τῆς γῆς ἤλθατε ἰδεῖν. ¹³ And they said,𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓𐤅 Thy servants𐤏𐤁𐤃𐤉𐤊 are twelve𐤔𐤍𐤉𐤌 𐤏𐤔𐤓 brethren,𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤌 the sons𐤁𐤍𐤉 of one𐤀𐤇𐤃 man𐤀𐤉𐤔 in the land𐤁𐤀𐤓𐤑 of Canaan;𐤊𐤍𐤏𐤍 and, behold, the youngest𐤄𐤒𐤈𐤍 is this day𐤄𐤉𐤅𐤌 with our father,𐤀𐤁𐤉𐤍𐤅 and one𐤅𐤄𐤀𐤇𐤃 is not. οἱ δὲ εἶπαν Δώδεκά ἐσμεν οἱ οἱ παῖδές σου ἀδελφοὶ ἐν γῇ χανάαν. καὶ ἰδοὺ ὁ ¹⁴ And Joseph𐤉𐤅𐤎𐤐 said𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 unto them, That is it that I spake𐤃𐤁𐤓𐤕𐤉 unto you, saying,𐤋𐤀𐤌𐤓 Ye are spies:𐤌𐤓𐤂𐤋𐤉𐤌 εῖπεν δὲ αὐτοῖς ἸωσήΦ τοῦτό ἐστιν ὃ εἴρηκα ὑμῖν, λέγων ὃτι κατά· σκοποί ἐστε· ¹⁵ Hereby𐤁𐤆𐤀𐤕 ye shall be proved:𐤕𐤁𐤇𐤍𐤅 By the life𐤇𐤉 of Pharaoh𐤐𐤓𐤏𐤄 ye shall not go forth𐤕𐤑𐤀𐤅 hence, except your youngest𐤄𐤒𐤈𐤍 brother𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤊𐤌 come𐤁𐤁𐤅𐤀 hither. ἐν τούτῳ φανεῖσθε· νὴ τὴν ὑγίαν Φαραώ, οὐ μὴ ἐξέλθητε ἐντεῦθεν ἐάν μὴ ὁ ἀδελφὸς ὑμῶν ὁ νεώτερος ¹⁶ Send𐤔𐤋𐤇𐤅 one𐤀𐤇𐤃 of you, and let him fetch𐤅𐤉𐤒𐤇 your brother,𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤊𐤌 and ye shall be kept in prison,𐤄𐤀𐤎𐤓𐤅 that your words𐤃𐤁𐤓𐤉𐤊𐤌 may be proved,𐤅𐤉𐤁𐤇𐤍𐤅 whether there be any truth𐤄𐤀𐤌𐤕 in𐤀𐤕𐤊𐤌 you: or else𐤋𐤀 by the life𐤇𐤉 of Pharaoh𐤐𐤓𐤏𐤄 surely ye are spies.𐤌𐤓𐤂𐤋𐤉𐤌 ἀποστείλατε ἐξ ὑμῶν ἕνα, καὶ λάβετε τὸν ἀδελΦὸ δὲ ἀπάχθητε ἕως τοῦ φανερὰ γενέσθαι τὰ ῥήματα ὑμῶν, εἰ ἅλ’ οὔ· εἰ δὲ μή, νὴ τὴν Φαραώ, εἰ μὴν κατάσκοποί ἐστε. ¹⁷ And he put them all together𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤎𐤐 into ward𐤌𐤔𐤌𐤓 three𐤔𐤋𐤔𐤕 days.𐤉𐤌𐤉𐤌 καὶ ἔθετο αὐτοὺς ἐν φυλακῇ ἡμέρας τρεῖς· ¹⁸ And Joseph𐤉𐤅𐤎𐤐 said𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 unto them the third𐤄𐤔𐤋𐤉𐤔𐤉 day,𐤁𐤉𐤅𐤌 This do,𐤏𐤔𐤅 and live;𐤅𐤇𐤉𐤅 for I fear𐤉𐤓𐤀 God:𐤄𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤌 εἶπεν δὲ δὲ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ τρίτῃ Τοῦτο ποιήσατε, καὶ ζήσεσθε· τὸν θεὸν γὰρ ἐγὼ φοβοῦμαι. ¹⁹ If ye be true𐤊𐤍𐤉𐤌 men, let one𐤀𐤇𐤃 of your brethren𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤊𐤌 be bound𐤉𐤀𐤎𐤓 in the house𐤁𐤁𐤉𐤕 of your prison:𐤌𐤔𐤌𐤓𐤊𐤌 go ye, carry𐤄𐤁𐤉𐤀𐤅 corn𐤔𐤁𐤓 for the famine𐤓𐤏𐤁𐤅𐤍 of your houses:𐤁𐤕𐤉𐤊𐤌 εἰ εἰρηνικοί ἐστε, ἀδελφὸς ὑμῶν εἷς κατασχεθήτω ἐν τῇ φυλακῇ· αὐτοὶ δὲ βαδίσατε καὶ ἀπαγάγετε τὸν ἀγορασμὸν τῆς σιτοδοσίας ὑμῶν, ²⁰ But bring𐤕𐤁𐤉𐤀𐤅 your youngest𐤄𐤒𐤈𐤍 brother𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤊𐤌 unto me; so shall your words𐤃𐤁𐤓𐤉𐤊𐤌 be verified,𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤍𐤅 and ye shall not die.𐤕𐤌𐤅𐤕𐤅 And they did𐤅𐤉𐤏𐤔𐤅 so. καὶ τὸν ἀδελφὸν ὑμῶν τὸν νεώτερον καταγάγετε πρὸς μέ, καὶ πιστευθήσονται τὰ ῥήματα ὑμῶν· εἰ δὲ μή, ἀποθανεῖσθε. ἐποίησαν δὲ οὕτως. ²¹ And they said𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓𐤅 one𐤀𐤉𐤔 to another,𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤅 We are verily𐤀𐤁𐤋 guilty𐤀𐤔𐤌𐤉𐤌 concerning our brother,𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤍𐤅 in that𐤀𐤔𐤓 we saw𐤓𐤀𐤉𐤍𐤅 the anguish𐤑𐤓𐤕 of his soul,𐤍𐤐𐤔𐤅 when he besought𐤁𐤄𐤕𐤇𐤍𐤍𐤅 us, and we would not hear;𐤔𐤌𐤏𐤍𐤅 therefore is this distress𐤄𐤑𐤓𐤄 come𐤁𐤀𐤄 upon us. καὶ εἰπεν ἕκαστος πρὸς τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ Ναί, ἐν ἁμαρτίᾳ γάρ αὐτοῦ ὃτε κατεδέετο ἡμῶν καὶ οὐκ εἰσηκούσαμεν αὐτοῦ· ἕνεκεν τούτου ἐπῆλθεν ἐφ’ ἡμᾶς ἡ θλίψις αὕτη. ²² And Reuben𐤓𐤀𐤅𐤁𐤍 answered𐤅𐤉𐤏𐤍 them, saying,𐤋𐤀𐤌𐤓 Spake I𐤀𐤌𐤓𐤕𐤉 not unto you, saying,𐤋𐤀𐤌𐤓 Do not sin𐤕𐤇𐤈𐤀𐤅 against the child;𐤁𐤉𐤋𐤃 and ye would not hear?𐤔𐤌𐤏𐤕𐤌 therefore, behold, also his blood𐤃𐤌𐤅 is required.𐤍𐤃𐤓𐤔 ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ Ῥουβὴν εἶπεν αὐτοῖς ὐκ ἐλάλησα ὑμῖν λέγων Μὴ ἀδικήσητε τὸ παιδάριον ; καὶ οὐκ εἰσηκούσατέ μου· καὶ ἰδοὺ τὸ αἷμα αὐτοῦ ἐκζητεῖται. ²³ And they knew𐤉𐤃𐤏𐤅 not that Joseph𐤉𐤅𐤎𐤐 understood𐤔𐤌𐤏 them; for he spake unto them by an interpreter.𐤄𐤌𐤋𐤉𐤑 αὐτοὶ δὲ οὐκ ᾔδεισαν ὅτι ἀκούει Ἰωσήφ, ὁ γὰρ ἑρμηνευτὴς ἀνὰ μέσον αὐτῶν ²⁴ And he turned himself about𐤅𐤉𐤎𐤁 from them, and wept;𐤅𐤉𐤁𐤊 and returned to them again,𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤁 and communed𐤅𐤉𐤃𐤁𐤓 with them, and took𐤅𐤉𐤒𐤇 from them Simeon,𐤔𐤌𐤏𐤅𐤍 and bound𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤎𐤓 him before their eyes.𐤋𐤏𐤉𐤍𐤉𐤄𐤌 ἀποστραΦεὸς ῥαφεὶς δὲ ἀπ’ αὐτῶν ἒκλαυσεν ἸωσήΦ. καὶ πάλιν π ροσἡλθεν πρὸς αὐτοὺς καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· καὶ ἔλαβεν τὸν Συμεὼν ἀπ’ αὐτῶν, καὶ ἒδησεν αὐτὸν ἐναντίον αὐτῶν. ²⁵ Then Joseph𐤉𐤅𐤎𐤐 commanded𐤅𐤉𐤑𐤅 to fill𐤅𐤉𐤌𐤋𐤀𐤅 their sacks𐤊𐤋𐤉𐤄𐤌 with corn,𐤁𐤓 and to restore𐤅𐤋𐤄𐤔𐤉𐤁 every man's𐤀𐤉𐤔 money𐤊𐤎𐤐𐤉𐤄𐤌 into his sack,𐤔𐤒𐤅 and to give𐤅𐤋𐤕𐤕 them provision𐤑𐤃𐤄 for the way:𐤋𐤃𐤓𐤊 and thus𐤊𐤍 did he𐤅𐤉𐤏𐤔 unto them. ἐνετείλατο δὲ Ἰωσὴφ ἐμπλῆσαι τὰ ἂδησεν αὐτῶν σίτου, καὶ ἀποδοῦναι τὸ ἀργύριον ἑκάστου εἰς τὸν σάκκον αὐτοῦ, καὶ δοῦναι αὐτοῖς ἐπισιτισμὸν εἰς τὴν ὁδόν. καὶ ἐγενήθη αὐτοῖς οὕτως. ²⁶ And they laded𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤀𐤅 their asses𐤇𐤌𐤓𐤉𐤄𐤌 with the corn,𐤔𐤁𐤓𐤌 and departed thence. καὶ ἐπιθέντες τὸν σῖτον ἐπὶ τοὺς ὂνους αὐτῶν ἀπῆλθον ἐκεῖθεν. ²⁷ And as one𐤄𐤀𐤇𐤃 of them opened𐤅𐤉𐤐𐤕𐤇 his sack𐤔𐤒𐤅 to give𐤋𐤕𐤕 his ass𐤋𐤇𐤌𐤓𐤅 provender𐤌𐤎𐤐𐤅𐤀 in the inn,𐤁𐤌𐤋𐤅𐤍 he espied𐤅𐤉𐤓𐤀 his money;𐤊𐤎𐤐𐤅 for, behold, it was in his sack's𐤀𐤌𐤕𐤇𐤕𐤅 mouth.𐤁𐤐𐤉 λύσας δὲ εἷς τὸν μάρσιππον αὐτοῦ, δοῦναι χορτάσματα τοῖς ὄνοις αὐτοῦ οὗ κατέλυσαν, ἴδεν τὸν δεσμὸν τοῦ ἀργυρίου αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἦν ἐπάνω τοῦ στόματος τοῦ μαρσίππου. ²⁸ And he said𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 unto his brethren,𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤅 My money𐤊𐤎𐤐𐤉 is restored;𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤁 and, lo,𐤄𐤍𐤄 it is even in my sack:𐤁𐤀𐤌𐤕𐤇𐤕𐤉 and their heart𐤋𐤁𐤌 failed𐤅𐤉𐤑𐤀 them, and they were afraid,𐤅𐤉𐤇𐤓𐤃𐤅 saying𐤋𐤀𐤌𐤓 one𐤀𐤉𐤔 to another,𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤅 What is this that God𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤌 hath done𐤏𐤔𐤄 unto us? καὶ εἶπεν τοῖς ἀδελΦοῖς αὐτοῦ Ἀπεδόθη μοι τὸ ἀργύριον, καὶ ἰδοὺ τοῦτο ἐν τῶ μαρσίππῳ μου. καὶ ἐξέστη ἡ καρδία αὐτῶν, καὶ ἐταράχθησαν πρὸς ἀλλήλους λέγοντες Τί τοῦτο ἐποίησεν ὁ θεὸς ἡμῖν ; ²⁹ And they came𐤅𐤉𐤁𐤀𐤅 unto Jacob𐤉𐤏𐤒𐤁 their father𐤀𐤁𐤉𐤄𐤌 unto the land𐤀𐤓𐤑𐤄 of Canaan,𐤊𐤍𐤏𐤍 and told𐤅𐤉𐤂𐤉𐤃𐤅 him all that befell𐤄𐤒𐤓𐤕 unto them; saying,𐤋𐤀𐤌𐤓 ἦλθον δὲ πρὸς Ἰακὼβ τὸν πατέρα αὐτῶν εἰς γῆν Χανάαν, καὶ ἀπήγγειλαν αὐτῷ πάντα τὰ συμβεβηκότα αὐτοῖς λέγοντες ³⁰ The man,𐤄𐤀𐤉𐤔 who is the lord𐤀𐤃𐤍𐤉 of the land,𐤄𐤀𐤓𐤑 spake𐤃𐤁𐤓 roughly𐤒𐤔𐤅𐤕 to us, and took𐤅𐤉𐤕𐤍 us for spies𐤊𐤌𐤓𐤂𐤋𐤉𐤌 of the country.𐤄𐤀𐤓𐤑 λελάληκεν ὁ ἄνθρωπος ὁ κύριος τῆς γῆς πρὸς ἡμᾶς σκληρά, καὶ ἔθετο ἡμᾶς ἐν φυλακῆ ὡς κατασκοπεύοντας E τὴν γῆν.’ ³¹ And we said𐤅𐤍𐤀𐤌𐤓 unto him, We are true𐤊𐤍𐤉𐤌 men; we are no spies:𐤌𐤓𐤂𐤋𐤉𐤌 εἲπαμεν δὲ αὐτῷ Εἰρηνικοί ἐσμεν, οὐκ ἐσμὲν κατάσκοποι. ³² We be twelve𐤔𐤍𐤉𐤌 𐤏𐤔𐤓 brethren,𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤌 sons𐤁𐤍𐤉 of our father;𐤀𐤁𐤉𐤍𐤅 one𐤄𐤀𐤇𐤃 is not, and the youngest𐤅𐤄𐤒𐤈𐤍 is this day𐤄𐤉𐤅𐤌 with our father𐤀𐤁𐤉𐤍𐤅 in the land𐤁𐤀𐤓𐤑 of Canaan.𐤊𐤍𐤏𐤍 δώδεκα ἀδελφοί ἐσμεν, υἱοὶ τοῦ πατρὸς ἡμῶν· ὁ εἷς οὐχ ὐπάρχει, ὁ δὲ μικρότερος μετὰ τοῦ πατρὸς ἡμῶν σήμερον εἰς γῆν Χανάαν. ³³ And the man,𐤄𐤀𐤉𐤔 the lord𐤀𐤃𐤍𐤉 of the country,𐤄𐤀𐤓𐤑 said𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 unto us, Hereby shall I know𐤀𐤃𐤏 that ye are true𐤊𐤍𐤉𐤌 men; leave one𐤄𐤀𐤇𐤃 of your brethren𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤊𐤌 here with me, and take𐤒𐤇𐤅 food for the famine𐤓𐤏𐤁𐤅𐤍 of your households,𐤁𐤕𐤉𐤊𐤌 and be gone: εἶπεν δὲ ἡμῖν ὁ ἄνθρωπος ὃς ὁ κύριος τῆς γῆς Ἐν τούτῳ γνωσόμεθα ὃτι εἰρηνικοί ἐστε· ἀδελφὸν ἕνα ἄφετε ὦδε μετ’ ἐμοῦ, τὸν δὲ ἀγορασμὸν τῆς σιτοδοσίας ὑμῶν λαβόντες ἀπέλθατε· ³⁴ And bring𐤅𐤄𐤁𐤉𐤀𐤅 your youngest𐤄𐤒𐤈𐤍 brother𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤊𐤌 unto me: then shall I know𐤅𐤀𐤃𐤏𐤄 that ye are no spies,𐤌𐤓𐤂𐤋𐤉𐤌 but that ye are true𐤊𐤍𐤉𐤌 men: so will I deliver𐤀𐤕𐤍 you your brother,𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤊𐤌 and ye shall traffick𐤕𐤎𐤇𐤓𐤅 in the land.𐤄𐤀𐤓𐤑 καὶ ἀγάγετε πρὸς με τὸν ἀδελφὸν ὑμῶν τὸν νεώτερον, καὶ γνώσομαι ὅτι οὐ κατάσκοποί ἐστε, ἀλλ’ ὅτι εἰρηνικοί ἐστε· καὶ τὸν ἀδελφὸν ὑμῶν ἀποδώσω ὑμῖν, καὶ τῆ γῇ ἐμπορεύεσθε. ³⁵ And it came to pass as they emptied𐤌𐤓𐤉𐤒𐤉𐤌 their sacks,𐤔𐤒𐤉𐤄𐤌 that, behold, every man's𐤀𐤉𐤔 bundle𐤑𐤓𐤅𐤓 of money𐤊𐤎𐤐𐤅 was in his sack:𐤁𐤔𐤒𐤅 and when both they and their father𐤅𐤀𐤁𐤉𐤄𐤌 saw𐤅𐤉𐤓𐤀𐤅 the bundles𐤑𐤓𐤓𐤅𐤕 of money,𐤊𐤎𐤐𐤉𐤄𐤌 they were afraid.𐤅𐤉𐤉𐤓𐤀𐤅 ἐγένετο δὲ ἐν τῶ κατακενοῦν αὐτοὺς τοὺς σάκκους αὐτῶν, καὶ ἢν ἑκάστου ὁ δεσμὸς τοῦ ἀργυρίου ἐν τῷ σλακκῳ αὐτῶν· καὶ ἴδον τοὺς δεσμοὺς τοῦ ἀργυρίου αὐτῶν αὐτοὶ καὶ ὁ πατήρ αὐτῶν, καὶ ἐφοβήθησαν. ³⁶ And Jacob𐤉𐤏𐤒𐤁 their father𐤀𐤁𐤉𐤄𐤌 said𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 unto them, Me have ye bereaved𐤔𐤊𐤋𐤕𐤌 of my children: Joseph𐤉𐤅𐤎𐤐 is not, and Simeon𐤅𐤔𐤌𐤏𐤅𐤍 is not, and ye will take𐤕𐤒𐤇𐤅 Benjamin𐤁𐤍𐤉𐤌𐤍 away: all these things are against me. εἶπεν δὲ αὐτοῖς Ἰακὼβ ὁ πατὴρ αὐτῶν Ἐμὲ ἠτεκνώ. ΙωσὴΦ οὐκ ἔστιν, Συμεὼν οὐκ ἔστιν, καὶ τὸν Βενιαμεὶν λήμἐπ' ἐμὲ ἐγένετο πάντα ταῦτα. ³⁷ And Reuben𐤓𐤀𐤅𐤁𐤍 spake𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 unto his father,𐤀𐤁𐤉𐤅 saying,𐤋𐤀𐤌𐤓 Slay𐤕𐤌𐤉𐤕 my two𐤔𐤍𐤉 sons,𐤁𐤍𐤉 if I bring𐤀𐤁𐤉𐤀𐤍𐤅 him not to thee: deliver𐤕𐤍𐤄 him into my hand,𐤉𐤃𐤉 and I will bring him to thee again.𐤀𐤔𐤉𐤁𐤍𐤅 εἶπεν δὲ Ῥουβὴν τῷ πατρὶ αὐτοῦ λέγων τοὺς δύο υἱούς μου ἀπόκτεινον, ἐὰν μὴ ἀγάγω αὐτὸν πρὸς σέ· δὸς αὐτὸν εἰς τὴν χεῖρά μου, κἀγὼ ἀνάξω αὐτὸν πρὸς σέ. ³⁸ And he said,𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 My son𐤁𐤍𐤉 shall not go down𐤉𐤓𐤃 with you; for his brother𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤅 is dead,𐤌𐤕 and he is left𐤍𐤔𐤀𐤓 alone: if mischief𐤀𐤎𐤅𐤍 befall𐤅𐤒𐤓𐤀𐤄𐤅 him by the way𐤁𐤃𐤓𐤊 in the which ye go, then shall ye bring down𐤅𐤄𐤅𐤓𐤃𐤕𐤌 my gray hairs𐤔𐤉𐤁𐤕𐤉 with sorrow𐤁𐤉𐤂𐤅𐤍 to the grave.𐤔𐤀𐤅𐤋𐤄 ὁ δὲ εἶπεν Οὐ καταβήσεται ὁ υἱός μου μεθ’ ὑμῶν, ὅτι ὁ ἀδελφὸς αὐτοῦ ἀπέθανεν, καὶ αὐτὸς μόνος καταλέλειπται· καὶ συμβήσεται αὐτὸν μαλακισθῆναι ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ ᾗ ἂν πορεύεσθε, καὶ κατάξετέ μου τὸ γῆρας μετὰ λύπης εἰς ἅ̣δου.
