Chapter 20 ¹ And Abraham𐤀𐤁𐤓𐤄𐤌 journeyed𐤅𐤉𐤎𐤏 from thence toward the south𐤄𐤍𐤂𐤁 country,𐤀𐤓𐤑𐤄 and dwelled𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤁 between Kadesh𐤒𐤃𐤔 and Shur,𐤔𐤅𐤓 and sojourned𐤅𐤉𐤂𐤓 in Gerar.𐤁𐤂𐤓𐤓 Καὶ ἐκίνησεν ἐκεῖθεν Ἀβραὰμ εἰς γῆν πρὸς λίβα, καὶ ᾤκησεν ἀνὰ μέσον Καδὴς καὶ ἀνὰ μέσον Σούρ· καὶ παρῴκησεν ἐν Γεραροῖς. ² And Abraham𐤀𐤁𐤓𐤄𐤌 said𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 of𐤀𐤋 Sarah𐤔𐤓𐤄 his wife,𐤀𐤔𐤕𐤅 She is my sister:𐤀𐤇𐤕𐤉 and Abimelech𐤀𐤁𐤉𐤌𐤋𐤊 king𐤌𐤋𐤊 of Gerar𐤂𐤓𐤓 sent,𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤋𐤇 and took𐤅𐤉𐤒𐤇 Sarah.𐤔𐤓𐤄 εἶπεν δὲ Ἀβραὰμ περὶ Σἀρρας τῆς γυναικὸς αὐτοῦ ὅτι Ἀδελφή μού ἐστιν· ἐφοβήθη γὰρ εἰπεῖν ὅτι Γυνή μού ἐστιν, μή ποτε αὐτὸν οἱ ἄνδρες τῆς πόλεως δι’ αὐτήν. ἀπέστειλεν βασιλεὺς Γεραρῶν καὶ ἔλαβεν τὴν Σάρραν. ³ But God𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤌 came𐤅𐤉𐤁𐤀 to Abimelech𐤀𐤁𐤉𐤌𐤋𐤊 in a dream𐤁𐤇𐤋𐤅𐤌 by night,𐤄𐤋𐤉𐤋𐤄 and said𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 to him, Behold, thou art but a dead man,𐤌𐤕 for the woman𐤄𐤀𐤔𐤄 which thou hast taken;𐤋𐤒𐤇𐤕 for she is a man's𐤁𐤏𐤋 wife.𐤁𐤏𐤋𐤕 καὶ εἰσῆλθεν ὁ θεὸς πρὸς Ἀβιμέλεχ ἐν ὕπνῳ τὴν νύκτα, καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Ἴδου σὺ ἀποθνήσκεις περὶ τῆς γυναικὸς ἧς ἔλαβες· αὕτη δέ ἐστιν συνῳκηκυῖα ἀνδρί.’ ⁴ But Abimelech𐤅𐤀𐤁𐤉𐤌𐤋𐤊 had not come near𐤒𐤓𐤁 her: and he said,𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 Lord,𐤀𐤃𐤍𐤉 wilt thou slay𐤕𐤄𐤓𐤂 also a righteous𐤑𐤃𐤉𐤒 nation?𐤄𐤂𐤅𐤉 Ἀβιμέλεχ δὲ οὐχ ἥψατο αὐτῆς, καὶ εἶπεν Κύριε, ἔθνος ἀγνοοῦν καὶ δίκαιον ἀπολεῖς; ⁵ Said𐤀𐤌𐤓 he not unto me, She𐤄𐤅𐤀 is my sister?𐤀𐤇𐤕𐤉 and she,𐤄𐤅𐤀 even𐤂𐤌 she𐤅𐤄𐤉𐤀 herself said,𐤀𐤌𐤓𐤄 He is my brother:𐤀𐤇𐤉 in the integrity𐤁𐤕𐤌 of my heart𐤋𐤁𐤁𐤉 and innocency𐤅𐤁𐤍𐤒𐤉𐤍 of my hands𐤊𐤐𐤉 have I done𐤏𐤔𐤉𐤕𐤉 this. οὐκ αὐτός μοι εἶπεν Ἀδελφή μού ἐστιν; καὶ αὕτη Ἀδελφός μού ἐστιν • ἐν καθαρᾷ καρδίᾳ καὶ ἑ ἐποίησα τοῦτο. ⁶ And God𐤄𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤌 said𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 unto him in a dream,𐤁𐤇𐤋𐤌 Yea,𐤂𐤌 I know𐤉𐤃𐤏𐤕𐤉 that thou didst𐤏𐤔𐤉𐤕 this in the integrity𐤁𐤕𐤌 of thy heart;𐤋𐤁𐤁𐤊 for I also withheld𐤅𐤀𐤇𐤔𐤊 thee from sinning𐤌𐤇𐤈𐤅 against me: therefore suffered𐤍𐤕𐤕𐤉𐤊 I thee not to touch𐤋𐤍𐤂𐤏 her. εἶπεν δὲ αὐτῷ ὁ θεὸς καθ’ ὕπνον κἀγὼ ἔγνων ὅτι ἐν καθαρᾷ καρδίᾳ ἐποίησας τοῦτο, καὶ ἐφεισάμην ἐγώ σου τοῦ μὴ ἁμαρτεῖν σε εἰς ἐμέ· ἕνεκεν τούτου οὐκ ἀφῆκά σε ἅψασθαι αὐτῆς. ⁷ Now therefore restore𐤄𐤔𐤁 the man𐤄𐤀𐤉𐤔 his wife;𐤀𐤔𐤕 for he is a prophet,𐤍𐤁𐤉𐤀 and he shall pray𐤅𐤉𐤕𐤐𐤋𐤋 for thee,𐤁𐤏𐤃𐤊 and thou shalt live:𐤅𐤇𐤉𐤄 and if thou restore𐤌𐤔𐤉𐤁 her not, know𐤃𐤏 thou that thou shalt surely𐤌𐤅𐤕 die,𐤕𐤌𐤅𐤕 thou, and all that are thine. νῦν δὲ ἀπόδος τὴν γυναῖκα τῷ ἀνθρώπῳ, ὅτι προφήτης ἐστὶν καὶ προσεύξεται περὶ σοῦ, καὶ ζήσῃ· εἰ δὲ μὴ ἀποδίδως, γνῶθι ὅτι ἀποθανῇ σὺ καὶ πάντα τὰ σά. ⁸ Therefore Abimelech𐤀𐤁𐤉𐤌𐤋𐤊 rose early𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤊𐤌 in the morning,𐤁𐤁𐤒𐤓 and called𐤅𐤉𐤒𐤓𐤀 all his servants,𐤏𐤁𐤃𐤉𐤅 and told𐤅𐤉𐤃𐤁𐤓 all these things𐤄𐤃𐤁𐤓𐤉𐤌 in their ears:𐤁𐤀𐤆𐤍𐤉𐤄𐤌 and the men𐤄𐤀𐤍𐤔𐤉𐤌 were sore𐤌𐤀𐤃 afraid.𐤅𐤉𐤉𐤓𐤀𐤅 καὶ ὤρθρισεν Ἀβιμέλεχ τὸ πρωὶ καὶ ἐκάλεσεν πάντας τοὺς παῖδας αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐλάλησεν πάντα τὰ ῥήματα ταῦτα εἰς τὰ ὦτα αὐτῶν· ἐφοβήθησαν δὲ πάντες οἱ ἄνθρωπο·ι σφόδρα. ⁹ Then Abimelech𐤀𐤁𐤉𐤌𐤋𐤊 called𐤅𐤉𐤒𐤓𐤀 Abraham,𐤋𐤀𐤁𐤓𐤄𐤌 and said𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 unto him, What hast thou done𐤏𐤔𐤉𐤕 unto us? and what have I offended𐤇𐤈𐤀𐤕𐤉 thee, that thou hast brought𐤄𐤁𐤀𐤕 on me and on my kingdom𐤌𐤌𐤋𐤊𐤕𐤉 a great𐤂𐤃𐤋𐤄 sin?𐤇𐤈𐤀𐤄 thou hast done𐤉𐤏𐤔𐤅 deeds𐤌𐤏𐤔𐤉𐤌 unto me that ought not to be done.𐤏𐤔𐤉𐤕 καὶ ἐκάλεσεν Ἀβιμέλεχ τὸν Ἀβραὰμ καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Τί τοῦτο ἐποίησας ἡμῖν ; μή τι ἡμάρτομεν εἰς σέ, ὅτι ἐπήγαγες ἐπ’ ἐμὲ καὶ ἐπὶ τὴν βασιλείαν μου ἁμαρτίαν μεγάλην ; ἔργον ὃ οὐδεὶς ποιήσει πεποίηκάς μοι. ¹⁰ And Abimelech𐤀𐤁𐤉𐤌𐤋𐤊 said𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 unto Abraham,𐤀𐤁𐤓𐤄𐤌 What𐤌𐤄 sawest thou,𐤓𐤀𐤉𐤕 that thou hast done𐤏𐤔𐤉𐤕 this thing?𐤄𐤃𐤁𐤓 εἶπεν δὲ Ἀριμέλεχ τῷ Ἀβραάμ Τί ἐνιδὼν ἐποίησας τοῦτο; ¹¹ And Abraham𐤀𐤁𐤓𐤄𐤌 said,𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 Because I thought,𐤀𐤌𐤓𐤕𐤉 Surely𐤓𐤒 the fear𐤉𐤓𐤀𐤕 of God𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤌 is not in this place;𐤁𐤌𐤒𐤅𐤌 and they will slay me𐤅𐤄𐤓𐤂𐤅𐤍𐤉 for my wife's𐤀𐤔𐤕𐤉 sake.𐤃𐤁𐤓 εἶπεν δὲ Ἀβραάμ Εἶπα γάρ Ἄρα οὐκ ἔστιν θεοσέβεια ἐν τῷ τόπῳ τούτῳ, ἐμέ τε ἀποκτενοῦσιν ἕνεκεν τῆς γυναικός μου. ¹² And yet indeed𐤀𐤌𐤍𐤄 she is my sister;𐤀𐤇𐤕𐤉 she is the daughter𐤁𐤕 of my father,𐤀𐤁𐤉 but not the daughter𐤁𐤕 of my mother;𐤀𐤌𐤉 and she became my wife.𐤋𐤀𐤔𐤄 καὶ γὰρ ἀληθῶς ἀδελφή μού ἐστιν ἐκ πατρός, ἀλλ’ οὐκ ἐκ μητρός· ἐγενήθη δέ μοι εἰς γυναῖκα. ¹³ And it came to pass, when God𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤌 caused me to wander𐤄𐤕𐤏𐤅 from my father's𐤀𐤁𐤉 house,𐤌𐤁𐤉𐤕 that I said𐤅𐤀𐤌𐤓 unto her, This is thy kindness𐤇𐤎𐤃𐤊 which thou shalt shew𐤕𐤏𐤔𐤉 unto me; at every place𐤄𐤌𐤒𐤅𐤌 whither we shall come,𐤍𐤁𐤅𐤀 say𐤀𐤌𐤓𐤉 of me, He is my brother.𐤀𐤇𐤉 ἐγένετο δὲ ἡνίκα ἐξήγαγέν με ὁ θεὸς ἐκ τοῦ οἴκου τοῦ πατρός μου καὶ εἶπα αὐτῇ ταύτην τὴν δικαιοσύνην ποίησον ἐπ’ ἐμέ· εἰς πάντα τόπον οὗ ἐὰν κεῖ· εἰπὸν ἐμὲ ὅτι Ἀδελλφός μού ἐστιν. ¹⁴ And Abimelech𐤀𐤁𐤉𐤌𐤋𐤊 took𐤅𐤉𐤒𐤇 sheep,𐤑𐤀𐤍 and oxen,𐤅𐤁𐤒𐤓 and menservants,𐤅𐤏𐤁𐤃𐤉𐤌 and womenservants,𐤅𐤔𐤐𐤇𐤕 and gave𐤅𐤉𐤕𐤍 them unto Abraham,𐤋𐤀𐤁𐤓𐤄𐤌 and restored𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤁 him Sarah𐤔𐤓𐤄 his wife.𐤀𐤔𐤕𐤅 ἔλαβεν δὲ ία δίδραχμα, πρόβατα καὶ μόσχους καὶ παῖδας καὶ παιδίσκας, καὶ ἔδωκεν τῷ Ἀβράμ· καὶ ἀπέδωκεν αὐτῷ Σάρραν τὴν γυναῖκα αὐτοῦ. ¹⁵ And Abimelech𐤀𐤁𐤉𐤌𐤋𐤊 said,𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 Behold, my land𐤀𐤓𐤑𐤉 is before thee:𐤋𐤐𐤍𐤉𐤊 dwell𐤔𐤁 where it pleaseth𐤁𐤈𐤅𐤁 𐤁𐤏𐤉𐤍𐤉𐤊 thee. καὶ εἶπεν Ἀβιμέλεχ τῷ Ἀβραάμ ἰδοὺ ἡ γῆ μου ἐναντίον σου· οὗ ἐάν σοι ἀρέσκῃ κατοίκει. ¹⁶ And unto Sarah𐤅𐤋𐤔𐤓𐤄 he said,𐤀𐤌𐤓 Behold, I have given𐤍𐤕𐤕𐤉 thy brother𐤋𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤊 a thousand𐤀𐤋𐤐 pieces of silver:𐤊𐤎𐤐 behold, he is to thee a covering𐤊𐤎𐤅𐤕 of the eyes,𐤏𐤉𐤍𐤉𐤌 unto all that are with thee, and with all other: thus she was reproved.𐤅𐤍𐤊𐤇𐤕 τῇ δὲ Σάρρᾳ εἶπεν Ἴδου δέδωκα χίλια δίδραχμα τῷ ἀδελφῷ σου· ταῦτα ἔσται σοι εἰς τιμὴν τοῦ προσώπου σου καὶ πάσαις ταῖς μετὰ σοῦ· καὶ πάντα ἀλήθευσον. ¹⁷ So Abraham𐤀𐤁𐤓𐤄𐤌 prayed𐤅𐤉𐤕𐤐𐤋𐤋 unto God:𐤄𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤌 and God𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤌 healed𐤅𐤉𐤓𐤐𐤀 Abimelech,𐤀𐤁𐤉𐤌𐤋𐤊 and his wife,𐤀𐤔𐤕𐤅 and his maidservants;𐤅𐤀𐤌𐤄𐤕𐤉𐤅 and they bare𐤅𐤉𐤋𐤃𐤅 children. προσηύξατο δὲ Ἀβραάμ πρὸς τὸν θεόν, καὶ ἰάσατο ὁ θεὸς τὸν Ἀβιμέλεχ καὶ τὴν γυναῖκα αὐτοῦ καὶ τὰς παιδίσκας αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἔτεκον· ¹⁸ For the Lord𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 had fast𐤏𐤑𐤓 closed up𐤏𐤑𐤓 all the wombs𐤓𐤇𐤌 of the house𐤋𐤁𐤉𐤕 of Abimelech,𐤀𐤁𐤉𐤌𐤋𐤊 because𐤃𐤁𐤓 of Sarah𐤔𐤓𐤄 Abraham's𐤀𐤁𐤓𐤄𐤌 𐤎 wife.𐤀𐤔𐤕 ὅτι συνέκλεισεν κύριος ἔξωθεν πᾶσαν μήτραν ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ τοῦ Ἀβιμέλεχ ἕνεκεν Σάρρας τῆς γυναικὸς Ἀβραάμ.
