Chapter 33 ¹ And Jacob𐤉𐤏𐤒𐤁 lifted up𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤀 his eyes,𐤏𐤉𐤍𐤉𐤅 and looked,𐤅𐤉𐤓𐤀 and, behold, Esau𐤏𐤔𐤅 came,𐤁𐤀 and with him four𐤀𐤓𐤁𐤏 hundred𐤌𐤀𐤅𐤕 men.𐤀𐤉𐤔 And he divided𐤅𐤉𐤇𐤑 the children𐤄𐤉𐤋𐤃𐤉𐤌 unto Leah,𐤋𐤀𐤄 and unto Rachel,𐤓𐤇𐤋 and unto the two𐤔𐤕𐤉 handmaids.𐤄𐤔𐤐𐤇𐤅𐤕 Ἀναβλέψας δὲ Ἰακὼβ ἴδεν, καὶ ἰδοὺ Ἠσαὺ ὁ ἀδελφὸς αὐτοῦ ἐρχόμενος, αὐτὸς καὶ τετρακόσιοι ἄνδρες μετ’ αὐτοῦ· καὶ ἐπιδιεῖλεν Ἰακὼβ τὰ παιδία ἐπὶ Λείαν καὶ ἐπὶ Ῥαχὴλ καὶ τὰς δύο ² And he put𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤌 the handmaids𐤄𐤔𐤐𐤇𐤅𐤕 and their children𐤉𐤋𐤃𐤉𐤄𐤍 foremost,𐤓𐤀𐤔𐤍𐤄 and Leah𐤋𐤀𐤄 and her children𐤅𐤉𐤋𐤃𐤉𐤄 after,𐤀𐤇𐤓𐤍𐤉𐤌 and Rachel𐤓𐤇𐤋 and Joseph𐤉𐤅𐤎𐤐 hindermost.𐤀𐤇𐤓𐤍𐤉𐤌 καὶ ἐποίησεν τὰς δύο παιδίσκας καὶ τοὺς υἱοὺς αὐΤῶν ἐν πρώτοις, Λείαν καὶ τὰ παιδία αὐτῆς ὀπίσω, καὶ Ῥαχὴλ καὶ ’l ³ And he passed over𐤏𐤁𐤓 before them,𐤋𐤐𐤍𐤉𐤄𐤌 and bowed himself𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤕𐤇𐤅 to the ground𐤀𐤓𐤑𐤄 seven𐤔𐤁𐤏 times,𐤐𐤏𐤌𐤉𐤌 until he came near𐤂𐤔𐤕𐤅 to his brother.𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤅 αὐτὸς δὲ παρῆλθεν ἔμπροσθεν αὐτῶν· καὶ προσεκύνησεν ἐπὶ ἑπτάκις ἕως τοῦ ἐγγίσαι τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ αὐτοῦ. ⁴ And Esau𐤏𐤔𐤅 ran𐤅𐤉𐤓𐤑 to meet him, and embraced𐤅𐤉𐤇𐤁𐤒𐤄𐤅 him, and fell𐤅𐤉𐤐𐤋 on his neck,𐤑𐤅𐤀𐤓𐤉𐤅 and kissed him:𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤒𐤄𐤅 and they wept.𐤅𐤉𐤁𐤊𐤅 καὶ Ἠσαὺ εἰς συνάντησιν αὐτῷ, καὶ περιλαβὼν αὐτὸν ἐφίλησεν καὶ ποσέπεσεν ἐσὲν ἐπὶ τὸν τράχηλον αὐτοῦ· κα ἔκλαυσαν ἀμφότεροι. ⁵ And he lifted up𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤀 his eyes,𐤏𐤉𐤍𐤉𐤅 and saw𐤅𐤉𐤓𐤀 the women𐤄𐤍𐤔𐤉𐤌 and the children;𐤄𐤉𐤋𐤃𐤉𐤌 and said,𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 Who are those𐤀𐤋𐤄 with thee? And he said,𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 The children𐤄𐤉𐤋𐤃𐤉𐤌 which God𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤌 hath graciously given𐤇𐤍𐤍 thy servant.𐤏𐤁𐤃𐤊 καὶ ἀναβλέψας ἴδεν τὰς γυναῖκας καὶ τὰ παιδία, καὶ εἶπεν Τί ταῦτά σοί ἐστιν ; ὁ δὲ εἶπεν Τὰ παιδία οἷς ἠλέησεν ὁ θεὸς τὸν παῖδά σου. ⁶ Then the handmaidens𐤄𐤔𐤐𐤇𐤅𐤕 came near,𐤅𐤕𐤂𐤔𐤍 they and their children,𐤅𐤉𐤋𐤃𐤉𐤄𐤍 and they bowed themselves.𐤅𐤕𐤔𐤕𐤇𐤅𐤉𐤍 καὶ προσήηισαν αἱ παιδίσκαι καὶ τὰ παιδία αὐτῶν, καὶ ⁷ And Leah𐤋𐤀𐤄 also with her children𐤅𐤉𐤋𐤃𐤉𐤄 came near,𐤅𐤕𐤂𐤔 and bowed themselves:𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤕𐤇𐤅𐤅 and after𐤅𐤀𐤇𐤓 came𐤍𐤂𐤔 Joseph𐤉𐤅𐤎𐤐 near and Rachel,𐤅𐤓𐤇𐤋 and they bowed𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤕𐤇𐤅𐤅 themselves. καὶ προσήγγισεν Λεία καὶ τὰ τέκνα αὐτῆς, καὶ μετὰ ταῦτα ποσήγγισεν Ῥαχὴλ καὶ Ἰωσήφ, καὶ προσεκύνησαν. ⁸ And he said,𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 What meanest thou by all this drove𐤄𐤌𐤇𐤍𐤄 which I met?𐤐𐤂𐤔𐤕𐤉 And he said,𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 These are to find𐤋𐤌𐤑𐤀 grace𐤇𐤍 in the sight𐤁𐤏𐤉𐤍𐤉 of my lord.𐤀𐤃𐤍𐤉 καὶ εἶπεν Τί ταῦτά σοί ἐστιν, πᾶσαι αἱ παρεμβολαὶ αὗται αἷς ὁ δὲ εἶπεν Ἵνα εὕρῃ ὁ παῖς σου χάριν ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς σου, ⁹ And Esau𐤏𐤔𐤅 said,𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 I have𐤉𐤔 enough,𐤓𐤁 my brother;𐤀𐤇𐤉 keep that thou hast unto thyself. δὲ Ἠσαύ Ἔστιν μοι πολλά, ἀδελφέ· ἔστω σοι τὰ σά. ¹⁰ And Jacob𐤉𐤏𐤒𐤁 said,𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 Nay, I pray thee, if now I have found𐤌𐤑𐤀𐤕𐤉 grace𐤇𐤍 in thy sight,𐤁𐤏𐤉𐤍𐤉𐤊 then receive𐤅𐤋𐤒𐤇𐤕 my present𐤌𐤍𐤇𐤕𐤉 at my hand:𐤌𐤉𐤃𐤉 for therefore I have seen𐤓𐤀𐤉𐤕𐤉 thy face,𐤐𐤍𐤉𐤊 as though I had seen𐤊𐤓𐤀𐤕 the face𐤐𐤍𐤉 of God,𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤌 and thou wast pleased with me.𐤅𐤕𐤓𐤑𐤍𐤉 εἶπεν ἑ Ἰακώβ Εἰ εὕρηκα χάριν ἐναντίον σου, δέξαι τὰ δῶρα διὰ τῶν ἐμῶν χειρῶν. ἕνεκεν τούτου ἴδον τὸ πρόσωπόν σου ὡς ἄν τις ἴδοι πρόσωπον θεοῦ, καὶ εὐδοκήσεις με· ¹¹ Take,𐤒𐤇 I pray thee, my blessing𐤁𐤓𐤊𐤕𐤉 that is brought𐤄𐤁𐤀𐤕 to thee; because God𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤌 hath dealt graciously with me,𐤇𐤍𐤍𐤉 and because𐤊𐤋 I have𐤉𐤔 enough. And he urged𐤅𐤉𐤐𐤑𐤓 him, and he took𐤅𐤉𐤒𐤇 it. λάβε τὰς εὐλογίας μου ἃς ἤνεγκά σοι, ἠλέησέν με ὁ θεὸς καὶ ἔστιν μοι πάντα. καὶ ἐβιάσατο αὐτόν, καὶ ἔλαβεν. ¹² And he said,𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 Let us take our journey,𐤍𐤎𐤏𐤄 and let us go, and I will go before thee. καὶ εἶπεν Ἀπάραντες πορευθῶμεν ἐπ’ εὐθεῖαν. ¹³ And he said𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 unto him, My lord𐤀𐤃𐤍𐤉 knoweth𐤉𐤃𐤏 that the children𐤄𐤉𐤋𐤃𐤉𐤌 are tender,𐤓𐤊𐤉𐤌 and the flocks𐤅𐤄𐤑𐤀𐤍 and herds𐤅𐤄𐤁𐤒𐤓 with young𐤏𐤋𐤅𐤕 are with me: and if men should overdrive𐤅𐤃𐤐𐤒𐤅𐤌 them one𐤀𐤇𐤃 day,𐤉𐤅𐤌 all the flock𐤄𐤑𐤀𐤍 will die.𐤅𐤌𐤕𐤅 εἶπεν δὲ αὐτῷ Ὁ κύριός μου γινώσκει ὅτι τὰ παιδία ἁπαλώτερα, καὶ τὰ πρόβατα καὶ αἱ βόες λοχεύονται ἐπ’ ἐμέ· ἐὰν οὖν καταδιώξω αὐτοὺς ἡμέραν μίαν, ἀποθανοῦνται πάντα τὰ κτήνη. ¹⁴ Let my lord,𐤀𐤃𐤍𐤉 I pray thee, pass over𐤉𐤏𐤁𐤓 before𐤋𐤐𐤍𐤉 his servant:𐤏𐤁𐤃𐤅 and I will lead on𐤀𐤕𐤍𐤄𐤋𐤄 softly,𐤋𐤀𐤈𐤉 according as𐤋𐤓𐤂𐤋 the cattle𐤄𐤌𐤋𐤀𐤊𐤄 that goeth before me𐤋𐤐𐤍𐤉 and the children𐤄𐤉𐤋𐤃𐤉𐤌 be able to endure,𐤅𐤋𐤓𐤂𐤋 until I come𐤀𐤁𐤀 unto my lord𐤀𐤃𐤍𐤉 unto Seir.𐤔𐤏𐤉𐤓𐤄 προελθάτω ὁ μου ἔμπροσθεν τοῦ παιδός· ἐγὼ δὲ ἐνισχύσω ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ κατὰ σχολὴν τῆς πορεύσεως τῆς ἐναντίον μου καὶ κατὰ πόδα τῶν παιδαρίων, ἕως τοῦ με ἐλθεῖν πρὸς τὸν κύριόν μου εἰς ¹⁵ And Esau𐤏𐤔𐤅 said,𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 Let me now leave𐤀𐤑𐤉𐤂𐤄 with thee some of the folk𐤄𐤏𐤌 that are with me. And he said,𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 What𐤋𐤌𐤄 needeth it? let me find𐤀𐤌𐤑𐤀 grace𐤇𐤍 in the sight𐤁𐤏𐤉𐤍𐤉 of my lord.𐤀𐤃𐤍𐤉 εἶπεν δὲ Ἠσαύ Καταω μετὰ σοῦ ἀπὸ τοῦ λαοῦ τοῦ μετ’ ἐμοῦ. ὁ δέ εἶπεν Ἵνα τί τοῦτο ; ἱκανὸν ὅτι εὗρον χάριν ἐναντίον σου, κύριε. ¹⁶ So Esau𐤏𐤔𐤅 returned𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤁 that day𐤁𐤉𐤅𐤌 on his way𐤋𐤃𐤓𐤊𐤅 unto Seir.𐤔𐤏𐤉𐤓𐤄 ἀπέστρεψεν δὲ Ἠσαὺ ἐν, τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ εἰς τὴν ὁδὸν αὐτοῦ εἰς Σηείρ. ¹⁷ And Jacob𐤅𐤉𐤏𐤒𐤁 journeyed𐤍𐤎𐤏 to Succoth,𐤎𐤊𐤕𐤄 and built𐤅𐤉𐤁𐤍 him an house,𐤁𐤉𐤕 and made𐤏𐤔𐤄 booths𐤎𐤊𐤕 for his cattle:𐤅𐤋𐤌𐤒𐤍𐤄𐤅 therefore the name𐤔𐤌 of the place𐤄𐤌𐤒𐤅𐤌 is called𐤒𐤓𐤀 Succoth.𐤎𐤊𐤅𐤕 𐤎 καὶ Ἰακὼβ ἀπαίρει εἰς Σκηνὰς· καὶ ἐποίησεν αὐτῷ ἐκεῖ οἰκίας, καὶ τοῖς κτήνεσιν αὐτοῦ ἐποίησεν σκηνάς· διὰ τοῦτο ἐκάλεσεν τὸ ὄνομα τοῦ τόπου ἐκείνου Σκηναί. ¹⁸ And Jacob𐤉𐤏𐤒𐤁 came𐤅𐤉𐤁𐤀 to Shalem, a city𐤏𐤉𐤓 of Shechem,𐤔𐤊𐤌 which is in the land𐤁𐤀𐤓𐤑 of Canaan,𐤊𐤍𐤏𐤍 when he came𐤁𐤁𐤀𐤅 from Padan–aram;𐤌𐤐𐤃𐤍 and pitched his tent𐤅𐤉𐤇𐤍 before𐤐𐤍𐤉 the city.𐤄𐤏𐤉𐤓 Καὶ ἦλθεν Ἰακὼβ εἰς Σαλήμ πόλιν Σικίμων, ἥ ἐστιν ἐν γῇ Χαναὰν, ὅτε ἦλθεν ἐκ τῆς Μεσοποταμίας Συρίας. καὶ παρενέβαλεν κατὰ πρόσωπον τῆς πόλεως. ¹⁹ And he bought𐤅𐤉𐤒𐤍 a parcel𐤇𐤋𐤒𐤕 of a field,𐤄𐤔𐤃𐤄 where he had spread𐤍𐤈𐤄 his tent,𐤀𐤄𐤋𐤅 at the hand𐤌𐤉𐤃 of the children𐤁𐤍𐤉 of Hamor,𐤇𐤌𐤅𐤓 Shechem's𐤔𐤊𐤌 father,𐤀𐤁𐤉 for an hundred𐤁𐤌𐤀𐤄 pieces of money.𐤒𐤔𐤉𐤈𐤄 καὶ ἐκτήσατο τὴν μερίδα τοῦ ἀγροῦ, οὗ ἔστησεν ἐκεῖ τὴν σκηνὴν αὐτοῦ, παρὰ Ἑμμὼρ πατρὸς Συχὲμ ἑκατὸν ἀμνῶν· ²⁰ And he erected𐤅𐤉𐤑𐤁 there an altar,𐤌𐤆𐤁𐤇 and called it𐤅𐤉𐤒𐤓𐤀 El–elohe–Israel. καὶ ἔστησεν ἐκεῖ θυσιαστήριον καὶ ἐπεκαλέσατο τὸν θεὸν Ἰσραήλ.
