Chapter 48 ¹ And it came to pass after𐤀𐤇𐤓𐤉 these things,𐤄𐤃𐤁𐤓𐤉𐤌 that one told𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 Joseph,𐤋𐤉𐤅𐤎𐤐 Behold, thy father𐤀𐤁𐤉𐤊 is sick:𐤇𐤋𐤄 and he took𐤅𐤉𐤒𐤇 with him his two𐤔𐤍𐤉 sons,𐤁𐤍𐤉𐤅 Manasseh𐤌𐤍𐤔𐤄 and Ephraim.𐤀𐤐𐤓𐤉𐤌 Ἐγένετο δὲ μετὰ τὰ ῥήματα ταῦτα ἀπηηέλη τῷ Ἰωσὴφ ὅτι Ὁ πατήρ σου ἐνοχλεῖται· καὶ ἀναλαβὼν τοὺς δύο υἱοὺς αὐτοῦ, τὸν Μανσσὴ καὶ τὸν Ἐφράιμ, ἦλθεν πρὸς Ἰακώβ. ² And one told𐤅𐤉𐤂𐤃 Jacob,𐤋𐤉𐤏𐤒𐤁 and said,𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 Behold, thy son𐤁𐤍𐤊 Joseph𐤉𐤅𐤎𐤐 cometh𐤁𐤀 unto thee: and Israel𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋 strengthened𐤅𐤉𐤕𐤇𐤆𐤒 himself, and sat𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤁 upon the bed.𐤄𐤌𐤈𐤄 ἀπηγγέλη δὲ τῷ Ἰακὼβ λέγοντες Ἴδου ὁ υἱός σου Ἰωσὴφ ἔρχεται πρὸς σέ· καὶ ἐνισχύσας Ἰσραὴλ ἐκάθισεν ἐπὶ τὴν κλίνην. ³ And Jacob𐤉𐤏𐤒𐤁 said𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 unto Joseph,𐤉𐤅𐤎𐤐 God𐤀𐤋 Almighty𐤔𐤃𐤉 appeared𐤍𐤓𐤀𐤄 unto me at Luz𐤁𐤋𐤅𐤆 in the land𐤁𐤀𐤓𐤑 of Canaan,𐤊𐤍𐤏𐤍 and blessed𐤅𐤉𐤁𐤓𐤊 me, καὶ εἶπεν Ἰακὼβ τῷ Ἰωσήφ Ὤφθη μοι ὁ θεός μου ἐν Λοῦζα ἐν γῇ Χανάαν, καὶ εὐλόγησέν με ⁴ And said𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 unto me, Behold, I will make thee fruitful,𐤌𐤐𐤓𐤊 and multiply𐤅𐤄𐤓𐤁𐤉𐤕𐤊 thee, and I will make𐤅𐤍𐤕𐤕𐤉𐤊 of thee a multitude𐤋𐤒𐤄𐤋 of people;𐤏𐤌𐤉𐤌 and will give𐤅𐤍𐤕𐤕𐤉 this land𐤄𐤀𐤓𐤑 to thy seed𐤋𐤆𐤓𐤏𐤊 after thee𐤀𐤇𐤓𐤉𐤊 for an everlasting𐤏𐤅𐤋𐤌 possession.𐤀𐤇𐤆𐤕 καὶ εἰπέν μοι Ἴδου ἐγώ σε αὐξάνω καὶ πληθυνῶ καὶ ποιήσω σε εἰς συναγωγὰς ἐθνῶν, καὶ δώσω σοι τὴν γῆν ταύτην καὶ τῶ σπέρματί σου μετὰ σὲ εἰς κατάσχεσιν αἰώνιον. ⁵ And now thy two𐤔𐤍𐤉 sons,𐤁𐤍𐤉𐤊 Ephraim𐤀𐤐𐤓𐤉𐤌 and Manasseh,𐤅𐤌𐤍𐤔𐤄 which were born𐤄𐤍𐤅𐤋𐤃𐤉𐤌 unto thee in the land𐤁𐤀𐤓𐤑 of Egypt𐤌𐤑𐤓𐤉𐤌 before𐤏𐤃 I came𐤁𐤀𐤉 unto thee into Egypt,𐤌𐤑𐤓𐤉𐤌𐤄 are mine; as Reuben𐤊𐤓𐤀𐤅𐤁𐤍 and Simeon,𐤅𐤔𐤌𐤏𐤅𐤍 they shall be mine. νῦν οὖν οἱ δύο υἱοί σου οἱ γενόμενοί σοι ἐν Αἰγύπτῳ πρὸ τοῦ με ἐλθεῖν εἰς Αἴγυπτον πρὸς σὲ ἐμοί εἰσιν, Ἐφράιμ καὶ Μανασσή, ὡς Ῥουβὴν καὶ Συμεὼν ἔσονταί μοι· ⁶ And thy issue,𐤅𐤌𐤅𐤋𐤃𐤕𐤊 which thou begettest𐤄𐤅𐤋𐤃𐤕 after𐤀𐤇𐤓𐤉𐤄𐤌 them, shall be thine, and shall be called𐤉𐤒𐤓𐤀𐤅 after𐤏𐤋 the name𐤔𐤌 of their brethren𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤄𐤌 in their inheritance.𐤁𐤍𐤇𐤋𐤕𐤌 τὰ δὲ ἔκγονα αἰ δ’ ἄν γεννήσῃς μετὰ ταῦτα ἔσονται ἐπὶ τῷ ὀνόματι τῶν ἀδελφῶν αὐτῶν, κληθήσονται ἐπὶ τοῖς ἐκείνων κλήροις. ⁷ And as for me, when I came𐤁𐤁𐤀𐤉 from Padan,𐤌𐤐𐤃𐤍 Rachel𐤓𐤇𐤋 died𐤌𐤕𐤄 by me in the land𐤁𐤀𐤓𐤑 of Canaan𐤊𐤍𐤏𐤍 in the way,𐤁𐤃𐤓𐤊 when𐤁𐤏𐤅𐤃 yet there was but a little𐤊𐤁𐤓𐤕 way𐤀𐤓𐤑 to come𐤋𐤁𐤀 unto Ephrath:𐤀𐤐𐤓𐤕𐤄 and I buried her𐤅𐤀𐤒𐤁𐤓𐤄 there in the way𐤁𐤃𐤓𐤊 of Ephrath;𐤀𐤐𐤓𐤕 the same is Beth–lehem.𐤁𐤉𐤕 ἐγὼ δὲ ἡνίκα ἠρχόμην ἐκ Μεσοποταμίας τῆς Συρίας, ἀπέθανεν Ῥαχὴλ ἡ μήτηρ σου ἐν γῇ Χανάαν, ἐγγίζοντός μου κατὰ τὸν ἱππόδρομον χαβραθὰ τῆς γῆς τοῦ ἐλθεῖν Ἐφράθα· καὶ κατώρυξα αὐτὴν ἐν τῇ ὁδῶ τοῦ ἱπποδρόμου· αὕτη ἐστὶν Βεθλέεμ. ⁸ And Israel𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋 beheld𐤅𐤉𐤓𐤀 Joseph's𐤉𐤅𐤎𐤐 sons,𐤁𐤍𐤉 and said,𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 Who are these? ἰδὼν δὲ Ἰσραὴλ τοὺς υἱοὺς Ἰωσήφ εἶπεν τίνες σοι οὗτοι ; ⁹ And Joseph𐤉𐤅𐤎𐤐 said𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 unto his father,𐤀𐤁𐤉𐤅 They are my sons,𐤁𐤍𐤉 whom God𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤌 hath given𐤍𐤕𐤍 me in this place. And he said,𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 Bring them,𐤒𐤇𐤌 I pray thee, unto me, and I will bless𐤅𐤀𐤁𐤓𐤊𐤌 them. εἶπεν δὲ Ἰωσὴφ τῷ πατρὶ αὐτοῦ Υἱοί μού εἰσιν οὓς ἔδωκέν μοι ὁ θεὸς ἐνταῦθα. καὶ εἶπεν Ἰακώβ προσάγαγέ μοι αὐτοὺς ἵνα εὐλογήσω αὐτούς. ¹⁰ Now the eyes𐤅𐤏𐤉𐤍𐤉 of Israel𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋 were dim𐤊𐤁𐤃𐤅 for age,𐤌𐤆𐤒𐤍 so that he could𐤉𐤅𐤊𐤋 not see.𐤋𐤓𐤀𐤅𐤕 And he brought them near𐤅𐤉𐤂𐤔 unto him; and he kissed𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤒 them, and embraced𐤅𐤉𐤇𐤁𐤒 them. οἱ δὲ ὀφθαλμοὶ Ἰσραὴλ ἐβαρυώπησαν ἀπὸ τοῦ γήρους, καὶ οὐκ ἠδύνατο βλέπειν· καὶ ἤγγισεν αὐτοὺς πρὸς αὐτόν, καὶ ἐφίλησεν αὐτοὺς καὶ περιέλαβεν αὐτούς. ¹¹ And Israel𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋 said𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 unto Joseph,𐤉𐤅𐤎𐤐 I had not thought𐤐𐤋𐤋𐤕𐤉 to see𐤓𐤀𐤄 thy face:𐤐𐤍𐤉𐤊 and, lo, God𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤌 hath shewed𐤄𐤓𐤀𐤄 me also thy seed.𐤆𐤓𐤏𐤊 καὶ εἶπεν Ἰσραὴλ πρὸς Ἰωσήφ ἰδοὺ τοῦ προσώπου σου οὐκ ἐστερήθην, καὶ ἰδοὺ ἔδειξέν μοι ὁ θεὸς καὶ τὸ σπέρμα σου, ¹² And Joseph𐤉𐤅𐤎𐤐 brought them out𐤅𐤉𐤅𐤑𐤀 from between𐤌𐤏𐤌 his knees,𐤁𐤓𐤊𐤉𐤅 and he bowed𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤕𐤇𐤅 himself with his face𐤋𐤀𐤐𐤉𐤅 to the earth.𐤀𐤓𐤑𐤄 καὶ ἐξήγαγεν Ἰωσὴφ ἀπὸ τῶν γονάτων αὐτοῦ, καὶ προσεκύνησαν αὐτῷ ἐπὶ πρόσωπον ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς. ¹³ And Joseph𐤉𐤅𐤎𐤐 took𐤅𐤉𐤒𐤇 them both,𐤔𐤍𐤉𐤄𐤌 Ephraim𐤀𐤐𐤓𐤉𐤌 in his right hand𐤁𐤉𐤌𐤉𐤍𐤅 toward Israel's𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋 left hand,𐤌𐤔𐤌𐤀𐤋 and Manasseh𐤌𐤍𐤔𐤄 in his left hand𐤁𐤔𐤌𐤀𐤋𐤅 toward Israel's𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋 right hand,𐤌𐤉𐤌𐤉𐤍 and brought them near𐤅𐤉𐤂𐤔 unto him. λαβὼν δὲ Ἰωσὴφ τοὺς δύο υἱοὺς αὐτοῦ, τόν τε Ἐφράιμ ἐν τῇ δεξιᾷ, ἐξ ἀριστερῶν δὲ Ἰσραήλ, τὸν δὲ Μανασσὴ ἐξ ἀριστερῶν, ἐκ δεξιῶν δὲ Ἰσραήλ, ἤγγιαεν αὐτοὺς αὐτῷ. ¹⁴ And Israel𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋 stretched out𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤋𐤇 his right hand,𐤉𐤌𐤉𐤍𐤅 and laid𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤕 it upon Ephraim's𐤀𐤐𐤓𐤉𐤌 head,𐤓𐤀𐤔 who was the younger,𐤄𐤑𐤏𐤉𐤓 and his left hand𐤔𐤌𐤀𐤋𐤅 upon Manasseh's𐤌𐤍𐤔𐤄 head,𐤓𐤀𐤔 guiding𐤔𐤊𐤋 his hands𐤉𐤃𐤉𐤅 wittingly; for Manasseh𐤌𐤍𐤔𐤄 was the firstborn.𐤄𐤁𐤊𐤅𐤓 ἐκτείνας δὲ Ἰσραὴλ τὴν χεῖρα τὴν δεξιὰν ἐπέβαλεν ἐπὶ τὴν κεφαλὴν Ἐφράιμ, οὗτος δὲ ἦν ὁ νεωτερος, καὶ τὴν ἀριστερὰν ἐπὶ τὴν κεφαλὴν Μανασσή, ἐναλλὰξ τὰς χεῖρας. ¹⁵ And he blessed𐤅𐤉𐤁𐤓𐤊 Joseph,𐤉𐤅𐤎𐤐 and said,𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 God,𐤄𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤌 before𐤋𐤐𐤍𐤉𐤅 whom my fathers𐤀𐤁𐤕𐤉 Abraham𐤀𐤁𐤓𐤄𐤌 and Isaac𐤅𐤉𐤑𐤇𐤒 did walk,𐤄𐤕𐤄𐤋𐤊𐤅 the God𐤄𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤌 which fed𐤄𐤓𐤏𐤄 me all my life long𐤌𐤏𐤅𐤃𐤉 unto this day,𐤄𐤉𐤅𐤌 καὶ ηὐλόγησεν αὐτοὺς καὶ εἶπεν Ὁ θεὸς ᾧ εὐηρέστησαν οἱ πατέρες μου ἐναντίον αὐτοῦ Ἀβραὰμ καὶ Ἰσαάκ, ὁ κύριος ὁ τρέφων με ἐκ νεότητος ἕως τῆς ἡμέρας ταύτης, ¹⁶ The Angel𐤄𐤌𐤋𐤀𐤊 which redeemed𐤄𐤂𐤀𐤋 me from all evil,𐤓𐤏 bless𐤉𐤁𐤓𐤊 the lads;𐤄𐤍𐤏𐤓𐤉𐤌 and let my name𐤔𐤌𐤉 be named𐤅𐤉𐤒𐤓𐤀 on them, and the name𐤅𐤔𐤌 of my fathers𐤀𐤁𐤕𐤉 Abraham𐤀𐤁𐤓𐤄𐤌 and Isaac;𐤅𐤉𐤑𐤇𐤒 and let them grow𐤅𐤉𐤃𐤂𐤅 into a multitude𐤋𐤓𐤁 in the midst𐤁𐤒𐤓𐤁 of the earth.𐤄𐤀𐤓𐤑 ὁ ἄγγελος ὁ ῥυόμενός με ἐκ πάντων τῶν κακῶν, εὐλογήσαι τὰ παιδία ταῦτα· καὶ ἐπικληθήσεται τὸ ὄνομά μου ἐν αὐτοῖς καὶ τὸ ὄνομα τῶν πατέρων μου Ἀβραὰμ καὶ Ισαάκ, καὶ πληθυνθείησαν εἰς πλῆθος πολὺ ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς. ¹⁷ And when Joseph𐤉𐤅𐤎𐤐 saw𐤅𐤉𐤓𐤀 that his father𐤀𐤁𐤉𐤅 laid𐤉𐤔𐤉𐤕 his right𐤉𐤌𐤉𐤍𐤅 hand𐤉𐤃 upon the head𐤓𐤀𐤔 of Ephraim,𐤀𐤐𐤓𐤉𐤌 it displeased𐤁𐤏𐤉𐤍𐤉𐤅 him: and he held up𐤅𐤉𐤕𐤌𐤊 his father's𐤀𐤁𐤉𐤅 hand,𐤉𐤃 to remove𐤋𐤄𐤎𐤉𐤓 it from Ephraim's𐤀𐤐𐤓𐤉𐤌 head𐤓𐤀𐤔 unto Manasseh's𐤌𐤍𐤔𐤄 head.𐤓𐤀𐤔 ἰδὼν δὲ Ἰωσὴφ ὅτι ἐπέβαλεν ὁ πατὴρ τὴν δεξιὰν αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ τὴν κεφαλὴν Ἐφράιμ, βαρὺ αὐτῷ κατεφάνη· καὶ ἀντελάβετο ’lωσὴφ τῆς χειρὸς τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ ἀφελεῖν αὐτὴν ἀπὸ τῆς κεφαλῆς Ἐφράιμ ἐπὶ τὴν κεφαλὴν Μανασσή. ¹⁸ And Joseph𐤉𐤅𐤎𐤐 said𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 unto his father,𐤀𐤁𐤉𐤅 Not so, my father:𐤀𐤁𐤉 for this is the firstborn;𐤄𐤁𐤊𐤓 put𐤔𐤉𐤌 thy right hand𐤉𐤌𐤉𐤍𐤊 upon his head.𐤓𐤀𐤔𐤅 εἶπεν δὲ Ἰωσὴφ τῷ πατρὶ αὐτοῦ Οὐχ οὕτως, πάτερ· οὗτος γὰρ ὁ πρωτότοκος, ἐπίθες τὴν δεξιὰν ἐπὶ τὴν κεφαλὴν αὐτοῦ. ¹⁹ And his father𐤀𐤁𐤉𐤅 refused,𐤅𐤉𐤌𐤀𐤍 and said,𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 I know𐤉𐤃𐤏𐤕𐤉 it, my son,𐤁𐤍𐤉 I know𐤉𐤃𐤏𐤕𐤉 it: he also shall become a people,𐤋𐤏𐤌 and he also shall be great:𐤉𐤂𐤃𐤋 but truly𐤅𐤀𐤅𐤋𐤌 his younger𐤄𐤒𐤈𐤍 brother𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤅 shall be greater𐤉𐤂𐤃𐤋 than he, and his seed𐤅𐤆𐤓𐤏𐤅 shall become a multitude𐤌𐤋𐤀 of nations.𐤄𐤂𐤅𐤉𐤌 καὶ οὐκ ἠθέλησεν, ἀλλὰ εἶπεν Οἶδα, τέκνον, οἷα· καὶ οὗτος ἔσται εἰς λαόν, καὶ οὗτος ὑψωθήσεται· ἀλλὰ ὁ ἀδελφὸς αὐτοῦ ὁ νεώ. τερος μείζων αὐτοῦ ἔσται, καὶ τὸ σπέρμα αι'τοῦ ἔσται εἰς πλῆθος ἐθνῶν. ²⁰ And he blessed𐤅𐤉𐤁𐤓𐤊𐤌 them that day,𐤁𐤉𐤅𐤌 saying,𐤋𐤀𐤌𐤅𐤓 In thee shall Israel𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋 bless,𐤉𐤁𐤓𐤊 saying,𐤋𐤀𐤌𐤓 God𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤌 make𐤉𐤔𐤌𐤊 thee as Ephraim𐤊𐤀𐤐𐤓𐤉𐤌 and as Manasseh:𐤅𐤊𐤌𐤍𐤔𐤄 and he set𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤌 Ephraim𐤀𐤐𐤓𐤉𐤌 before𐤋𐤐𐤍𐤉 Manasseh.𐤌𐤍𐤔𐤄 καὶ καὶ εὐλόγησεν αὐτοὺς ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνη λέγων Ἐν ὑμῖν εὐλογηθήσεται Ἰσραὴλ λέγοντες Ποιήσαι σε ὁ θεὸς ὡς ὡς Μανασσή· καὶ ἔθηκεν τὸν Ἐφράιμ ἔμπροσθεν τοῦ ²¹ And Israel𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋 said𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 unto Joseph,𐤉𐤅𐤎𐤐 Behold, I die:𐤌𐤕 but God𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤌 shall be with you, and bring you again𐤅𐤄𐤔𐤉𐤁 unto the land𐤀𐤓𐤑 of your fathers.𐤀𐤁𐤕𐤉𐤊𐤌 εἶπεν δὲ Ἰσραὴλ τῷ Ἰωσήφ ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ ἀποθνήσκω, καὶ ἔσται ὁ θεὸς μεθ’ ὑμῶν καὶ ἀποστρέψει ὑμᾶς εἰς τὴν γῆν ²² Moreover I have given𐤍𐤕𐤕𐤉 to thee one𐤀𐤇𐤃 portion𐤔𐤊𐤌 above thy brethren,𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤊 which I took𐤋𐤒𐤇𐤕𐤉 out of the hand𐤌𐤉𐤃 of the Amorite𐤄𐤀𐤌𐤓𐤉 with my sword𐤁𐤇𐤓𐤁𐤉 and with my bow.𐤅𐤁𐤒𐤔𐤕𐤉 𐤐 ἐγὼ δὲ δίδωμί σοι σίκιμα ἐξαίρετον ὑπὲρ τοὺς ἀδελφούς σου, ἣν ἔλαβον ἐκ χειρὸς Ἀμορραίων ἐν μαχαίρᾳ μου καὶ τόξῳ.
