Chapter 37 ¹ And Jacob𐤉𐤏𐤒𐤁 dwelt𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤁 in the land𐤁𐤀𐤓𐤑 wherein his father𐤀𐤁𐤉𐤅 was a stranger,𐤌𐤂𐤅𐤓𐤉 in the land𐤁𐤀𐤓𐤑 of Canaan.𐤊𐤍𐤏𐤍 Κατῴκει δὲ Ἰακὼβ ἐν τῇ γῇ οὖ παρῴκησεν ὁ πατὴρ αὐτοῦ, ἐν γῇ Χανάαν. ² These are the generations𐤕𐤋𐤃𐤅𐤕 of Jacob.𐤉𐤏𐤒𐤁 Joseph,𐤉𐤅𐤎𐤐 being seventeen𐤔𐤁𐤏 𐤏𐤔𐤓𐤄 years𐤔𐤍𐤄 old,𐤁𐤍 was feeding𐤓𐤏𐤄 the flock𐤁𐤑𐤀𐤍 with his brethren;𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤅 and the lad𐤍𐤏𐤓 was with the sons𐤁𐤍𐤉 of Bilhah,𐤁𐤋𐤄𐤄 and with the sons𐤁𐤍𐤉 of Zilpah,𐤆𐤋𐤐𐤄 his father's𐤀𐤁𐤉𐤅 wives:𐤍𐤔𐤉 and Joseph𐤉𐤅𐤎𐤐 brought𐤅𐤉𐤁𐤀 unto his father𐤀𐤁𐤉𐤄𐤌 their evil𐤓𐤏𐤄 report.𐤃𐤁𐤕𐤌 αὗται δὲ αἱ γενέσεις Ἰακώβ. ἸωσὴΦ δέκα ἑπτὰ ἐτῶν ἦν ποιμαίνων μετὰ τῶν ἀδελφῶν αὐτοῦ τὰ πρόβατα, ὢν νέος, μετὰ τῶν υἱῶν Βάλλας καὶ μετὰ τῶν υἱῶν ΖἐλΦας τῶν γυναικῶν τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ· κατήνεγκαν δὲ Ἰωσὴφ ψόγον πονηρὸν πρὸς Ἰσραὴλ τὸν πατέρα αὐτῶν. ³ Now Israel𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋 loved𐤀𐤄𐤁 Joseph𐤉𐤅𐤎𐤐 more than all his children,𐤁𐤍𐤉𐤅 because he was the son𐤁𐤍 of his old age:𐤆𐤒𐤍𐤉𐤌 and he made𐤅𐤏𐤔𐤄 him a coat𐤊𐤕𐤍𐤕 of many colours.𐤐𐤎𐤉𐤌 Ἰακὼβ δὲ ἠγάπα τὸν Ἰωσὴφ παρὰ πάντας τοὺς υἱοὺς αὐτοῦ, ὓτι υἱὸς γήρους ἦν αὐτῷ· ἐποίησεν δὲ αὐτῷ χιτῶνα ποικίλον. κίλον. ⁴ And when his brethren𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤅 saw𐤅𐤉𐤓𐤀𐤅 that their father𐤀𐤁𐤉𐤄𐤌 loved𐤀𐤄𐤁 him more than all his brethren,𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤅 they hated𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤍𐤀𐤅 him, and could𐤉𐤊𐤋𐤅 not speak𐤃𐤁𐤓𐤅 peaceably𐤋𐤔𐤋𐤌 unto him. ἰδόντες δὲ οἱ ἀδελφοὶ αὐτοῦ ὅτι αὐτὸν ἐφίλει ὁ πατὴρ ἐκ πάντων τῶν υἱῶν αὐτοῦ, ἐμίσησαν αὐτόν, καὶ οὐκ ἐδύναντο λαλεῖν αὐτῷ οὐδὲν εἰρηνικόν. ⁵ And Joseph𐤉𐤅𐤎𐤐 dreamed𐤅𐤉𐤇𐤋𐤌 a dream,𐤇𐤋𐤅𐤌 and he told𐤅𐤉𐤂𐤃 it his brethren:𐤋𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤅 and they hated𐤔𐤍𐤀 him yet the more.𐤅𐤉𐤅𐤎𐤐𐤅 ἐνυπνιασθεὶς δὲ Ἰωσὴφ ἐνύπνιον αὐτὸ τοῖς ἀδελφοῖς αὐτοῦ, ⁶ And he said𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 unto them, Hear,𐤔𐤌𐤏𐤅 I pray you, this dream𐤄𐤇𐤋𐤅𐤌 which I have dreamed:𐤇𐤋𐤌𐤕𐤉 καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Ἀκούσατε τοῦ τούτου οὗ ἐνυπνιάσθην. ⁷ For, behold, we were binding𐤌𐤀𐤋𐤌𐤉𐤌 𐤁𐤕𐤅𐤊 sheaves𐤀𐤋𐤌𐤉𐤌 in the field,𐤄𐤔𐤃𐤄 and, lo, my sheaf𐤀𐤋𐤌𐤕𐤉 arose,𐤒𐤌𐤄 and also stood upright;𐤍𐤑𐤁𐤄 and, behold, your sheaves𐤀𐤋𐤌𐤕𐤉𐤊𐤌 stood round about,𐤕𐤎𐤁𐤉𐤍𐤄 and made obeisance𐤅𐤕𐤔𐤕𐤇𐤅𐤉𐤍 to my sheaf.𐤋𐤀𐤋𐤌𐤕𐤉 ᾤμην ὑμᾶς δεσμεύειν δράγματα ἐν μέσῳ πεδίῳ· καὶ ἀνέστη τὸ ἐμὸν δρόγμα καὶ ὠρθώθη· περιστραφέντα δὲ τὰ δράγματα ὑμῶν προσεκύνησαν τὸ ἐμὸν δράγμα. ⁸ And his brethren𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤅 said𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓𐤅 to him, Shalt thou indeed𐤄𐤌𐤋𐤊 reign𐤕𐤌𐤋𐤊 over us? or shalt thou indeed𐤌𐤔𐤅𐤋 have dominion𐤕𐤌𐤔𐤋 over us? And they hated𐤔𐤍𐤀 him yet the more𐤅𐤉𐤅𐤎𐤐𐤅 for his dreams,𐤇𐤋𐤌𐤕𐤉𐤅 and for his words.𐤃𐤁𐤓𐤉𐤅 εἶπαν δὲ αὐτῷ ἀδελφοί Μὴ βασιλεύων βασιλεύσεις ἐφ’ ἡμᾶς ἢ κυριεύων κυριεύσεις ἡμῶν ; καὶ προσέθεντο ἔηι μισεῖν αὐτὸν ἕνεκεν τῶν ἐνυπνίων αὐτοῦ καὶ ἓνεκεν τῶν ῥημάτων αὐτοῦ. ⁹ And he dreamed𐤅𐤉𐤇𐤋𐤌 yet another𐤀𐤇𐤓 dream,𐤇𐤋𐤅𐤌 and told𐤅𐤉𐤎𐤐𐤓 it his brethren,𐤋𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤅 and said,𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 Behold, I have dreamed𐤇𐤋𐤌𐤕𐤉 a dream𐤇𐤋𐤅𐤌 more; and, behold, the sun𐤄𐤔𐤌𐤔 and the moon𐤅𐤄𐤉𐤓𐤇 and the eleven𐤅𐤀𐤇𐤃 𐤏𐤔𐤓 stars𐤊𐤅𐤊𐤁𐤉𐤌 made obeisance𐤌𐤔𐤕𐤇𐤅𐤉𐤌 to me. ἴδεν δὲ ἐνύπνιον ἕτερον, καὶ διηγήσατο αὐτὸ τῷ πατρὶ αὐτοῦ καὶ τοῖς ἀδελφοῖς αὐτοῦ, καὶ εἶπεν ἰδοὺ ἐνυπνιάσθην ἐνύπνιον ἕτερον· ὥσπερ ὁ ἥλιος καὶ ἡ σελήνη καὶ ἕνδεκα ἀστέρες προσεκύνουν με. ¹⁰ And he told𐤅𐤉𐤎𐤐𐤓 it to his father,𐤀𐤁𐤉𐤅 and to his brethren:𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤅 and his father𐤀𐤁𐤉𐤅 rebuked𐤅𐤉𐤂𐤏𐤓 him, and said𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 unto him, What is this dream𐤄𐤇𐤋𐤅𐤌 that thou hast dreamed?𐤇𐤋𐤌𐤕 Shall I and thy mother𐤅𐤀𐤌𐤊 and thy brethren𐤅𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤊 indeed𐤄𐤁𐤅𐤀 come𐤍𐤁𐤅𐤀 to bow down𐤋𐤄𐤔𐤕𐤇𐤅𐤕 ourselves to thee to the earth?𐤀𐤓𐤑𐤄 καὶ ἐπετίμησεν αὐτῷ ὁ πατὴρ αὐτοῦ καὶ εἶπεν Τί τὸ ἐνύπνιον τοῦτο ὃ ἐνυπνιάσθης ; ἀρά γε ἐλθόντες ἐλευσόμεθα ἐγώ τε καὶ ἡ μήτηρ σου καὶ οἱ ἀδελφοί σου προσκυνῆσαί σοι ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν ; ¹¹ And his brethren𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤅 envied𐤅𐤉𐤒𐤍𐤀𐤅 him; but his father𐤅𐤀𐤁𐤉𐤅 observed𐤔𐤌𐤓 the saying.𐤄𐤃𐤁𐤓 ἐξήλωσαν δὲ αὐτὸν οἱ ἀδελφοὶ αὐτοῦ· ὁ δὲ αὐτοῦ διετήρησεν τὸ ῥῆμα. ¹² And his brethren𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤅 went to feed𐤋𐤓𐤏𐤅𐤕 their father's𐤀𐤁𐤉𐤄𐤌 flock𐤑𐤀𐤍 in Shechem.𐤁𐤔𐤊𐤌 Ἐπορεύθησαν δὲ οἱ ἀδελφοὶ βόσκειν τὰ πρόβατα τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτῶν εἰς Συχέμ. ¹³ And Israel𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋 said𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 unto Joseph,𐤉𐤅𐤎𐤐 Do not thy brethren𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤊 feed𐤓𐤏𐤉𐤌 the flock in Shechem?𐤁𐤔𐤊𐤌 come, and I will send thee𐤅𐤀𐤔𐤋𐤇𐤊 unto them. And he said𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 to him, Here am I. καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς ’lωσήφ οὐχ οἱ ἀδελφοί σου ποιμαίνουσιν ἐν Συχέμ; δεῦρο ἀποστείλω σε πρὸς αὐτούς. εἶπεν δὲ αὐτῷ ἰδοὺ ἐγώ. ¹⁴ And he said𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 to him, Go, I pray thee, see𐤓𐤀𐤄 whether it be well𐤔𐤋𐤅𐤌 with thy brethren,𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤊 and well𐤔𐤋𐤅𐤌 with the flocks;𐤄𐤑𐤀𐤍 and bring𐤅𐤄𐤔𐤁𐤍𐤉 me word𐤃𐤁𐤓 again. So he sent𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤋𐤇𐤄𐤅 him out of the vale𐤌𐤏𐤌𐤒 of Hebron,𐤇𐤁𐤓𐤅𐤍 and he came𐤅𐤉𐤁𐤀 to Shechem.𐤔𐤊𐤌𐤄 εἶπεν δὲ αὐτῷ Ἰσραήλ ΙΙορευθεὶς ἴδε εἰ ὑγιαίνουσιν οἱ ἀδελφοί σου καὶ τὰ πρόβάτα, καὶ ἀνάγγειλόν μοι. καὶ ἀπέστειλεν αὐτὸν ἐκ τῆς κοιλάδος τῆς Χεβρών. καὶ ἦλθεν εἰς Συχέμ. ¹⁵ And a certain man𐤀𐤉𐤔 found him,𐤅𐤉𐤌𐤑𐤀𐤄𐤅 and, behold, he was wandering𐤕𐤏𐤄 in the field:𐤁𐤔𐤃𐤄 and the man𐤄𐤀𐤉𐤔 asked him,𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤅 saying,𐤋𐤀𐤌𐤓 What seekest𐤕𐤁𐤒𐤔 thou? καὶ εὗρεν αὐτὸν ἄνθρωπος πλανὠμἐνον ἐν τῷ πεδίῳ· ἠρώτησεν δὲ αὐτὸν ὁ ἄνθρωπος λέγων Τί ζητεῖς ; ¹⁶ And he said,𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 I seek𐤌𐤁𐤒𐤔 my brethren:𐤀𐤇𐤉 tell𐤄𐤂𐤉𐤃𐤄 me, I pray thee, where𐤀𐤉𐤐𐤄 they feed𐤓𐤏𐤉𐤌 their flocks. ὁ δὲ εἶπεν τοὺς ἀδελφούς μου ζητῶ· ἀπάγγειλόν μοι ποῦ βόσκουσιν. ¹⁷ And the man𐤄𐤀𐤉𐤔 said,𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 They are departed𐤍𐤎𐤏𐤅 hence;𐤌𐤆𐤄 for I heard𐤔𐤌𐤏𐤕𐤉 them say,𐤀𐤌𐤓𐤉𐤌 Let us go to Dothan.𐤃𐤕𐤉𐤍𐤄 And Joseph𐤉𐤅𐤎𐤐 went after𐤀𐤇𐤓 his brethren,𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤅 and found𐤅𐤉𐤌𐤑𐤀𐤌 them in Dothan.𐤁𐤃𐤕𐤍 εἶπεν δὲ αὐτῷ ὁ ἄνθρωπος Ἀπήρκασιν ἐντεῦθεν· ἤκουσα γὰρ αὐτῶν λεγόντων ΙΙορευθῶμεν εἰς Δωθόειμ. καὶ ἐπορεύθη ἸωσήΦ κατόπισθεν τῶν ἀδελφῶν αὐτοῦ, καὶ εὗρεν αὐτοὺς εἰς Δωθάειμ. ¹⁸ And when they saw𐤅𐤉𐤓𐤀𐤅 him afar off,𐤌𐤓𐤇𐤒 even before he came near𐤉𐤒𐤓𐤁 unto them, they conspired𐤅𐤉𐤕𐤍𐤊𐤋𐤅 against him to slay𐤋𐤄𐤌𐤉𐤕𐤅 him. πρόιδον δὲ αὐτὸν μακρόθεν πρὸ τοῦ ἐγγίσαι αὐτὸν πρὸς αὐτούς· καὶ ἐπορεύοντο ἀποκτεῖναι αὐτόν. ¹⁹ And they said𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓𐤅 one𐤀𐤉𐤔 to another,𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤅 Behold, this𐤄𐤋𐤆𐤄 dreamer𐤁𐤏𐤋 𐤄𐤇𐤋𐤌𐤅𐤕 cometh.𐤁𐤀 εἶπαν δὲ ἕκαστος πρὸς τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ ἰδοὺ ὁ ἐνυπνιαστὴς ἐκεῖνος ἔρχεται· ²⁰ Come now therefore, and let us slay𐤅𐤍𐤄𐤓𐤂𐤄𐤅 him, and cast𐤅𐤍𐤔𐤋𐤊𐤄𐤅 him into some𐤁𐤀𐤇𐤃 pit,𐤄𐤁𐤓𐤅𐤕 and we will say,𐤅𐤀𐤌𐤓𐤍𐤅 Some evil𐤓𐤏𐤄 beast𐤇𐤉𐤄 hath devoured𐤀𐤊𐤋𐤕𐤄𐤅 him: and we shall see𐤅𐤍𐤓𐤀𐤄 what will become of his dreams.𐤇𐤋𐤌𐤕𐤉𐤅 νῦν οὖν δεῦτε ἀποκτείνωμεν αὐτόν, καὶ ῥίψομεν αὐτὸν εἰς ἕνα τῶν λάκκων, καὶ ἐροῦμεν Θηρίον πονηρὸν κατέφαγεν αὐτόν· καὶ ὀψόμεθα τί ἒστιν τὰ ἐνύπνια αὐτοῦ. ²¹ And Reuben𐤓𐤀𐤅𐤁𐤍 heard𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤌𐤏 it, and he delivered𐤅𐤉𐤑𐤋𐤄𐤅 him out of their hands;𐤌𐤉𐤃𐤌 and said,𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 Let us not kill𐤍𐤊𐤍𐤅 𐤍𐤐𐤔 him. ἀκούσας δὲ Ῥουβὴν ἐξείλατο αὐτὸν ἐκ τῶν χειρῶν αὐτῶν, καὶ εἶπεν Οὐ πατάξομεν αὐτὸν εἰς ψυχήν. ²² And Reuben𐤓𐤀𐤅𐤁𐤍 said𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 unto them, Shed𐤕𐤔𐤐𐤊𐤅 no blood,𐤃𐤌 but cast𐤄𐤔𐤋𐤉𐤊𐤅 him into this pit𐤄𐤁𐤅𐤓 that is in the wilderness,𐤁𐤌𐤃𐤁𐤓 and lay𐤕𐤔𐤋𐤇𐤅 no hand𐤅𐤉𐤃 upon him; that he might rid𐤄𐤑𐤉𐤋 him out of their hands,𐤌𐤉𐤃𐤌 to deliver𐤋𐤄𐤔𐤉𐤁𐤅 him to his father𐤀𐤁𐤉𐤅 again. εἶπεν δὲ αὐτοῖς Ῥουβὴν Μὴ ἐκχέητε αἷμα· ἐμβάλετε δὲ αὐτὸν εἰς ἕνα τῶν λάκκων τῶν ἐν τῆ ἐρήμῳ, χεῖρα δὲ μὴ ἐπενέγκητε αὐτῷ· ὅπως ἐξέληται αὐτὸν ἐκ τῶν χειρῶν αὐτῶν καὶ ἀποδῷ αὐτὸν τῷ πατρὶ αὐτοῦ. ²³ And it came to pass, when Joseph𐤉𐤅𐤎𐤐 was come𐤁𐤀 unto his brethren,𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤅 that they stript𐤅𐤉𐤐𐤔𐤉𐤈𐤅 𐤀𐤕 Joseph𐤉𐤅𐤎𐤐 out of his coat,𐤊𐤕𐤍𐤕𐤅 his coat𐤊𐤕𐤍𐤕 of many colours𐤄𐤐𐤎𐤉𐤌 that was on him; ἐγένετο δὲ ἡνίκα ἦλθεν ἸωσὴΦ πρὸς τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς αὐτοῦ, ἐξέδυσαν τὸν Ἰωσὴφ τὸν χιτῶνα τὸν ποικίλον τὸν περὶ αὐτόν, ²⁴ And they took𐤅𐤉𐤒𐤇𐤄𐤅 him, and cast𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤋𐤊𐤅 him into a pit:𐤄𐤁𐤓𐤄 and the pit𐤅𐤄𐤁𐤅𐤓 was empty,𐤓𐤒 there was no water𐤌𐤉𐤌 in it. καὶ λαβόντες αὐτὸν ἔρριψαν εἰς τὸν λάκκον· ὁ δὲ λάκκος ἐκεῖνος ὕδωρ οὐκ εἶχεν. ²⁵ And they sat down𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤁𐤅 to eat𐤋𐤀𐤊𐤋 bread:𐤋𐤇𐤌 and they lifted up𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤀𐤅 their eyes𐤏𐤉𐤍𐤉𐤄𐤌 and looked,𐤅𐤉𐤓𐤀𐤅 and, behold, a company𐤀𐤓𐤇𐤕 of Ishmeelites𐤉𐤔𐤌𐤏𐤀𐤋𐤉𐤌 came𐤁𐤀𐤄 from Gilead𐤌𐤂𐤋𐤏𐤃 with their camels𐤅𐤂𐤌𐤋𐤉𐤄𐤌 bearing𐤍𐤔𐤀𐤉𐤌 spicery𐤍𐤊𐤀𐤕 and balm𐤅𐤑𐤓𐤉 and myrrh,𐤅𐤋𐤈 going𐤄𐤅𐤋𐤊𐤉𐤌 to carry it down𐤋𐤄𐤅𐤓𐤉𐤃 to Egypt.𐤌𐤑𐤓𐤉𐤌𐤄 ἐκάθισαιν δὲ φαγεῖν ἄρτον· καὶ ἀναβλέψαντες τοῖς ὀφθαλμοῖς ἴδον, καὶ ἰδοὺ ὁδοιπόροι Ἰσμαηλεῖται ἤρχοντο ἐκ Γαλαὰδ, καὶ οἱ κάμηλοι αὐτῶν ἔγεμον θυμιαμάτων καὶ ῥιτίνης καὶ στακτῆς· ἐπορεύοντο δὲ καταγαγεῖν εἰς Αἴγυπτον. ²⁶ And Judah𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤃𐤄 said𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 unto his brethren,𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤅 What profit𐤁𐤑𐤏 is it if we slay𐤍𐤄𐤓𐤂 our brother,𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤍𐤅 and conceal𐤅𐤊𐤎𐤉𐤍𐤅 his blood?𐤃𐤌𐤅 εἶπεν δὲ Ἰούδας πρὸς τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς αὐτοῦ Τί χρήσιμον ἐὰν ἀποκ τὸν ἀδελφὸν ἡμῶν καὶ κρύψωμεν τὸ αἷμα αὐτοῦ ; ²⁷ Come, and let us sell𐤅𐤍𐤌𐤊𐤓𐤍𐤅 him to the Ishmeelites,𐤋𐤉𐤔𐤌𐤏𐤀𐤋𐤉𐤌 and let not our hand𐤅𐤉𐤃𐤍𐤅 be upon him; for he is our brother𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤍𐤅 and our flesh.𐤁𐤔𐤓𐤍𐤅 And his brethren𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤅 were content.𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤌𐤏𐤅 δεῦτε ἀποδώμέθᾳ αὐτὸν τοῖς Ἰσμαηλίτας τούτοις· αἱ δὲ χεῖρες ἐπ’ αὐτόν, ὃτι ἀδελφὸς ἡμῶν καὶ σὰρξ ἡμῶν ἐστίν. ’ ἤκουσαν δὲ οἱ ἀδελφοὶ αὐτοῦ. ²⁸ Then there passed𐤅𐤉𐤏𐤁𐤓𐤅 by Midianites𐤌𐤃𐤉𐤍𐤉𐤌 merchantmen;𐤀𐤍𐤔𐤉𐤌 𐤎𐤇𐤓𐤉𐤌 and they drew𐤅𐤉𐤌𐤔𐤊𐤅 and lifted up𐤅𐤉𐤏𐤋𐤅 Joseph𐤉𐤅𐤎𐤐 out of the pit,𐤄𐤁𐤅𐤓 and sold𐤅𐤉𐤌𐤊𐤓𐤅 Joseph𐤉𐤅𐤎𐤐 to the Ishmeelites𐤋𐤉𐤔𐤌𐤏𐤀𐤋𐤉𐤌 for twenty𐤁𐤏𐤔𐤓𐤉𐤌 pieces of silver:𐤊𐤎𐤐 and they brought𐤅𐤉𐤁𐤉𐤀𐤅 Joseph𐤉𐤅𐤎𐤐 into Egypt.𐤌𐤑𐤓𐤉𐤌𐤄 καὶ παρεπορεύοντο οἱ ἄνθρωποι οἱ Μαδιηναῖοι οἱ ἔμποροι, καὶ ἐξείλκυσαν καὶ ἀνεβίβασαν τὸν ἸωσὴΦ ἐκ τοῦ λάκκου· καὶ ἀπέδοντο τὸν Ἰωσὴφ τοῖς Ἰσμανλίταις εἴκοσι χρυσῶν· καὶ κατήγαγον τὸν ἸωσὴΦ εἰς Αἲγυπτον. ²⁹ And Reuben𐤓𐤀𐤅𐤁𐤍 returned𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤁 unto the pit;𐤄𐤁𐤅𐤓 and, behold, Joseph𐤉𐤅𐤎𐤐 was not in the pit;𐤁𐤁𐤅𐤓 and he rent𐤅𐤉𐤒𐤓𐤏 his clothes.𐤁𐤂𐤃𐤉𐤅 ἀνέστρεψεν δὲ Ῥουβὴν ἐπὶ τὸν λάκκον, καὶ οὐχ ὁρᾷ τὸν ἸωσὴΦ ἐν τῷ λἀκκῳ. καὶ διέρρηξεν τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτοῦ. ³⁰ And he returned𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤁 unto his brethren,𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤅 and said,𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 The child𐤄𐤉𐤋𐤃 is not; and I, whither𐤀𐤍𐤄 shall I go?𐤁𐤀 καὶ ἀνέστρεψεν πρὸς τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς αὐτοῦ καὶ Τὸ παιδάρον οὐκ ἐστιν· ἐγὼ δὲ ποῦ πορεύομαι ἔτι ; ³¹ And they took𐤅𐤉𐤒𐤇𐤅 Joseph's𐤉𐤅𐤎𐤐 coat,𐤊𐤕𐤍𐤕 and killed𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤇𐤈𐤅 a kid𐤔𐤏𐤉𐤓 of the goats,𐤏𐤆𐤉𐤌 and dipped𐤅𐤉𐤈𐤁𐤋𐤅 the coat𐤄𐤊𐤕𐤍𐤕 in the blood;𐤁𐤃𐤌 λαβόντες δὲ τὸν χιτῶνα τοῦ ἸωσὴΦ ἔσφαξαν ἔριφον αἰγῶν, καὶ ἐμόλυναν τὸν χιτῶνα καὶ ³² And they sent𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤋𐤇𐤅 the coat𐤊𐤕𐤍𐤕 of many colours,𐤄𐤐𐤎𐤉𐤌 and they brought𐤅𐤉𐤁𐤉𐤀𐤅 it to their father;𐤀𐤁𐤉𐤄𐤌 and said,𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓𐤅 This have we found:𐤌𐤑𐤀𐤍𐤅 know𐤄𐤊𐤓 now whether it be thy son's𐤁𐤍𐤊 coat𐤄𐤊𐤕𐤍𐤕 or no. καὶ ἀπέστειλαν τὸν χιτῶνα τὸν ποικίλον καὶ εἰσήνεγκαν τῷ πατρὶ αὐτῶν, καὶ εἶπαν τοῦτον εὕρομεν· ἐπίγνωθι εἰ χιτὼν τοῦ υἱοῦ σού ἐστιν ἢ οὔ. ³³ And he knew it,𐤅𐤉𐤊𐤉𐤓𐤄 and said,𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 It is my son's𐤁𐤍𐤉 coat;𐤊𐤕𐤍𐤕 an evil𐤓𐤏𐤄 beast𐤇𐤉𐤄 hath devoured𐤀𐤊𐤋𐤕𐤄𐤅 him; Joseph𐤉𐤅𐤎𐤐 is without doubt𐤈𐤓𐤐 rent in pieces.𐤈𐤓𐤐 καὶ ἐπέγνω αὐτὸν καὶ εἶπεν Χιτὼν τοῦ υἱοῦ ἐστιν· θηρίον πονηρὸν κατέφαγεν αὐτόν, θηρίον ἥρπασεν τὸν ἸωσήΦ. ³⁴ And Jacob𐤉𐤏𐤒𐤁 rent𐤅𐤉𐤒𐤓𐤏 his clothes,𐤔𐤌𐤋𐤕𐤉𐤅 and put𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤌 sackcloth𐤔𐤒 upon his loins,𐤁𐤌𐤕𐤍𐤉𐤅 and mourned𐤅𐤉𐤕𐤀𐤁𐤋 for his son𐤁𐤍𐤅 many𐤓𐤁𐤉𐤌 days.𐤉𐤌𐤉𐤌 διέρρηξεν δὲ Ιακὼβ τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐπέθετο σάκκον ἐπὶ ὀσφὺν αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐπένθει τὸν υἱὸν αὐτοῦ ἡμέρας τινάς. ³⁵ And all his sons𐤁𐤍𐤉𐤅 and all his daughters𐤁𐤍𐤕𐤉𐤅 rose up𐤅𐤉𐤒𐤌𐤅 to comfort𐤋𐤍𐤇𐤌𐤅 him; but he refused𐤅𐤉𐤌𐤀𐤍 to be comforted;𐤋𐤄𐤕𐤍𐤇𐤌 and he said,𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 For I will go down𐤀𐤓𐤃 into the grave𐤔𐤀𐤋𐤄 unto my son𐤁𐤍𐤉 mourning.𐤀𐤁𐤋 Thus his father𐤀𐤁𐤉𐤅 wept𐤅𐤉𐤁𐤊 for him. συνήχθησαν δὲ πάντες οἱ υἱοὶ αὐτοῦ καὶ αἱ θυγατέρες, καὶ ἦλθον παρακαλέσαι αὐτόν· καὶ οὐκ ἤθελεν παρακαλεῖσθαι, λέγων ὂτι Καταβήσομαι πρὸς τὸν υἱόν μου πενθῶν εἰς ᾅδου· καὶ ἔκλαυσεν αὐτὸν ὁ πατὴρ αὐτοῦ. οἱ δὲ Μαδιηναῖοι ἀπέδοντο τὸν ἸωσὴΦ εἰς Αἴγυπτον τῷ Πετρεφῇ σπάδοντι Φαραὼ ἀρχιμαγείρῳ. ³⁶ And the Midianites𐤅𐤄𐤌𐤃𐤍𐤉𐤌 sold𐤌𐤊𐤓𐤅 him into Egypt𐤌𐤑𐤓𐤉𐤌 unto Potiphar,𐤋𐤐𐤅𐤈𐤉𐤐𐤓 an officer𐤎𐤓𐤉𐤎 of Pharaoh's,𐤐𐤓𐤏𐤄 and captain𐤔𐤓 of the guard.𐤄𐤈𐤁𐤇𐤉𐤌 𐤐
