Chapter 38 ¹ And it came to pass at that time,𐤁𐤏𐤕 that Judah𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤃𐤄 went down𐤅𐤉𐤓𐤃 from his brethren,𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤅 and turned𐤅𐤉𐤈 in to a certain𐤀𐤉𐤔 Adullamite,𐤏𐤃𐤋𐤌𐤉 whose name𐤅𐤔𐤌𐤅 was Hirah.𐤇𐤉𐤓𐤄 Ἐγένετο δὲ ἐν τῷ καιρῷ ἐκείνῳ κατέβη Ἰούδας ἀπὸ τῶν αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἀφίκετο ἓως πρὸς ἂνθρωπόν τινα τινα Ὀδολλαμίτην ᾧ ὄνομα Είρᾶς῎ ² And Judah𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤃𐤄 saw𐤅𐤉𐤓𐤀 there a daughter𐤁𐤕 of a certain𐤀𐤉𐤔 Canaanite,𐤊𐤍𐤏𐤍𐤉 whose name𐤅𐤔𐤌𐤅 was Shuah;𐤔𐤅𐤏 and he took her,𐤅𐤉𐤒𐤇𐤄 and went in𐤅𐤉𐤁𐤀 unto her. καὶ ἴδεν ἐκεῖ Ἰούδας θυγατέρα ἀνθρώπου ἀνθρώπου ἧ Σαύα. καὶ ἒλαβεν αὐτὴν καὶ εἰσῆλθεν πρὸς αὐτήν. ³ And she conceived,𐤅𐤕𐤄𐤓 and bare𐤅𐤕𐤋𐤃 a son;𐤁𐤍 and he called𐤅𐤉𐤒𐤓𐤀 his name𐤔𐤌𐤅 Er.𐤏𐤓 καὶ συλλαβοῦσα ἒτεκεν υἱόν, καὶ ἐκάλεσεν τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ Ἢρ. ⁴ And she conceived𐤅𐤕𐤄𐤓 again, and bare𐤅𐤕𐤋𐤃 a son;𐤁𐤍 and she called𐤅𐤕𐤒𐤓𐤀 his name𐤔𐤌𐤅 Onan.𐤀𐤅𐤍𐤍 καὶ συλλαβοῦσα ἔτεκεν υἱόν, καὶ ἐκάλεσεν τὸ ὂνομα αὐτοῦ Αύγάν. ⁵ And she yet again conceived,𐤅𐤕𐤎𐤐 and bare𐤅𐤕𐤋𐤃 a son;𐤁𐤍 and called𐤅𐤕𐤒𐤓𐤀 his name𐤔𐤌𐤅 Shelah:𐤔𐤋𐤄 and he was at Chezib,𐤁𐤊𐤆𐤉𐤁 when she bare𐤁𐤋𐤃𐤕𐤄 him. καὶ π ρπσιεῖσα ἔτι ἔτεκεν υἱόν, καὶ ἐκάλεσεν τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ Σηλώμ. αὕτη δὲ ἦν ἐν Χασβὶ ἡνίκα ἒτεκεν αὐτούς. ⁶ And Judah𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤃𐤄 took𐤅𐤉𐤒𐤇 a wife𐤀𐤔𐤄 for Er𐤋𐤏𐤓 his firstborn,𐤁𐤊𐤅𐤓𐤅 whose name𐤅𐤔𐤌𐤄 was Tamar.𐤕𐤌𐤓 καὶ ἔλαβεν Ἰούδας γυναῖκα Ἢρ τῷ D πρωτοτόκῳ αὐτοῦ, ᾗ ὄνομα Θαμάρ. ⁷ And Er,𐤏𐤓 Judah's𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤃𐤄 firstborn,𐤁𐤊𐤅𐤓 was wicked𐤓𐤏 in the sight𐤁𐤏𐤉𐤍𐤉 of the Lord;𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 and the Lord𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 slew𐤅𐤉𐤌𐤕𐤄𐤅 him. ἐγένετο δὲ Ἢρ πρωτότοκος Ἰούδα πονηρὸς ἐναντίον κυρίου, καὶ ἀπέκτεινεν αὐτὸν ὁ θεός. ⁸ And Judah𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤃𐤄 said𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 unto Onan,𐤋𐤀𐤅𐤍𐤍 Go in𐤁𐤀 unto thy brother's𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤊 wife,𐤀𐤔𐤕 and marry𐤅𐤉𐤁𐤌 her, and raise up𐤅𐤄𐤒𐤌 seed𐤆𐤓𐤏 to thy brother.𐤋𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤊 εῖπεν δὲ Ἰούδας τῷ Αύνάν Εἲσελθε πρὸς τὴν γυναῖκα τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ σου καὶ γάμβρευσαι αὐτήν, καὶ ἀνάστησον σπέρμα τῷ ἀδελφῷ σου. ⁹ And Onan𐤀𐤅𐤍𐤍 knew𐤅𐤉𐤃𐤏 that the seed𐤄𐤆𐤓𐤏 should not be his; and it came to pass, when𐤀𐤌 he went in𐤁𐤀 unto his brother's𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤅 wife,𐤀𐤔𐤕 that he spilled𐤅𐤔𐤇𐤕 it on the ground,𐤀𐤓𐤑𐤄 lest𐤋𐤁𐤋𐤕𐤉 that he should give𐤍𐤕𐤍 seed𐤆𐤓𐤏 to his brother.𐤋𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤅 γνοὺς δὲ Αύνὰν ἣτι οὐκ αὐτῷ ἔσται τὸ σπέρμα, ἐγίνετο, ὃταν εἰσήρχετο πρὸς τὴν γυναῖκα τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ αὐτοῦ, ἐξέχεεν ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν τοῦ μὴ δοῦναι σοέρνα τῷ ἀδελφῷ αὐτοῦ. ¹⁰ And the thing which𐤀𐤔𐤓 he did𐤏𐤔𐤄 displeased𐤁𐤏𐤉𐤍𐤉 the Lord:𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 wherefore he slew𐤅𐤉𐤌𐤕 him also. πονηρὸν δὲ ἐφάνη τὸ ῥῆμα ἐναντίον θεοῦ ὅτι ἐποίησεν τοῦτο, καὶ ἐθανάτωσεν καὶ τοῦτον. ¹¹ Then said𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 Judah𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤃𐤄 to Tamar𐤋𐤕𐤌𐤓 his daughter in law,𐤊𐤋𐤕𐤅 Remain𐤔𐤁𐤉 a widow𐤀𐤋𐤌𐤍𐤄 at thy father's𐤀𐤁𐤉𐤊 house,𐤁𐤉𐤕 till Shelah𐤔𐤋𐤄 my son𐤁𐤍𐤉 be grown:𐤉𐤂𐤃𐤋 for he said,𐤀𐤌𐤓 Lest peradventure he die𐤉𐤌𐤅𐤕 also, as his brethren𐤊𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤅 did. And Tamar𐤕𐤌𐤓 went and dwelt𐤅𐤕𐤔𐤁 in her father's𐤀𐤁𐤉𐤄 house.𐤁𐤉𐤕 εἶπεν δὲ Ἰούδας Θαμὰρ τῇ νύμφῃ αὐτοῦ Κάθου χήρα ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ τοῦ πατρός σου ἕως μέγας γένηται Σηλὼμ ὁ υἱός μου· εἶπεν γάρ Μή ποτε ἀποθάνῃ καὶ οὗτος ὥσπερ οἱ ἀδελφοὶ αὐτοῦ. ἀπελθοῦσα δὲ Θαμάρ ἐκάθητο ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτῆς. ¹² And in process𐤅𐤉𐤓𐤁𐤅 of time𐤄𐤉𐤌𐤉𐤌 the daughter𐤁𐤕 of Shuah𐤔𐤅𐤏 Judah's𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤃𐤄 wife𐤀𐤔𐤕 died;𐤅𐤕𐤌𐤕 and Judah𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤃𐤄 was comforted,𐤅𐤉𐤍𐤇𐤌 and went up𐤅𐤉𐤏𐤋 unto his sheepshearers𐤂𐤆𐤆𐤉 𐤑𐤀𐤍𐤅 to Timnath,𐤕𐤌𐤍𐤕𐤄 he and his friend𐤓𐤏𐤄𐤅 Hirah𐤅𐤇𐤉𐤓𐤄 the Adullamite.𐤄𐤏𐤃𐤋𐤌𐤉 ἐπληθύνθησαν δὲ αἱ ἡμέραι καὶ ἡμέραι καὶ ἀπέθανεν Σαύα ἡ γυνὴ Ἰούδα· καὶ παρακληθεὶς Ἰούδας ἀνέβη ἐπὶ κείρονταςτὰ πρόβατα αὐτοῦ, αὐτὸς καὶ Εἱρᾶς ὁ ποιμὴν αὐτοῦ ὁ Ὀδολλαμείτης, εἰς Θαμνά. ¹³ And it was told𐤅𐤉𐤂𐤃 Tamar,𐤋𐤕𐤌𐤓 saying,𐤋𐤀𐤌𐤓 Behold thy father in law𐤇𐤌𐤉𐤊 goeth up𐤏𐤋𐤄 to Timnath𐤕𐤌𐤍𐤕𐤄 to shear𐤋𐤂𐤆 his sheep.𐤑𐤀𐤍𐤅 καὶ ἀπηγγέλη Θαμὰρ τῇ νύμφῃ αὐτοῦ λέγοντες ἰδοὺ ὁ πενθερός σου ἀνέβη εἰς Θαμνὰ κεῖραι τὰ πρόβατα αὐτοῦ. ¹⁴ And she put𐤅𐤕𐤎𐤓 her widow's𐤀𐤋𐤌𐤍𐤅𐤕𐤄 garments𐤁𐤂𐤃𐤉 off from her, and covered her𐤅𐤕𐤊𐤎 with a vail,𐤁𐤑𐤏𐤉𐤐 and wrapped herself,𐤅𐤕𐤕𐤏𐤋𐤐 and sat in𐤅𐤕𐤔𐤁 an open place,𐤁𐤐𐤕𐤇 which is by the way𐤃𐤓𐤊 to Timnath;𐤕𐤌𐤍𐤕𐤄 for she saw𐤓𐤀𐤕𐤄 that Shelah𐤔𐤋𐤄 was grown,𐤂𐤃𐤋 and she was not given𐤍𐤕𐤍𐤄 unto him to wife.𐤋𐤀𐤔𐤄 κα ὶ περιελομένη τὰ ἱμάτια τῆς χηρεύσεως ἀφ’ ἑαυτῆς περιεβάλετο θερίστρῳ καὶ ἐκαλλωπίσατο, καὶ ἐκάθισεν πρὸς ταῖς πύλαις Αἰνάν, ἥ ἐστιν ἐν παρόδῳ Θαμνά. ἴδεν γὰρ ὅτι μέγας γέγονεν Σηλὼμ ὁ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ, αὐτὸς δὲ οὐκ ἒδωκεν αὐτὴν αὐτῷ γυναῖκα. ¹⁵ When Judah𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤃𐤄 saw her,𐤅𐤉𐤓𐤀𐤄 he thought𐤅𐤉𐤇𐤔𐤁𐤄 her to be an harlot;𐤋𐤆𐤅𐤍𐤄 because she had covered𐤊𐤎𐤕𐤄 her face.𐤐𐤍𐤉𐤄 καὶ ἰδὼν αὐτὴν Ἰούδας ἒδοξεν αὐτὴν πόρνην εἶναι· κατεκαλύψατο γὰρ τὸ πρόσωπον αὐτῆς, καὶ οὐκ ἐπέγνω αὐτήν. ¹⁶ And he turned𐤅𐤉𐤈 unto her by the way,𐤄𐤃𐤓𐤊 and said,𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 Go to,𐤄𐤁𐤄 I pray thee, let me come in𐤀𐤁𐤅𐤀 unto thee; (for he knew𐤉𐤃𐤏 not that she was his daughter in law.)𐤊𐤋𐤕𐤅 And she said,𐤅𐤕𐤀𐤌𐤓 What wilt thou give𐤕𐤕𐤍 me, that thou mayest come in𐤕𐤁𐤅𐤀 unto me? ἐξέκλινεν δὲ πρὸς αὐτὴν τὴν ὁδὸν καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῇ Ἒασόν με εἰσελθεῖν πρὸς σέ· οὐ γὰρ ἒγνω ὃτι ἡ νύμφη αὐτοῦ ἐστίν. ἡ δὲ εἶπεν Τί μοι δώσεις ἐὰν εἰσέλθῃς πρὸς μέ ; ¹⁷ And he said,𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 I will send𐤀𐤔𐤋𐤇 thee a kid𐤂𐤃𐤉 𐤏𐤆𐤉𐤌 from the flock.𐤄𐤑𐤀𐤍 And she said,𐤅𐤕𐤀𐤌𐤓 Wilt thou give𐤕𐤕𐤍 me a pledge,𐤏𐤓𐤁𐤅𐤍 till thou send𐤔𐤋𐤇𐤊 it? ὁ δὲ εἶπεν Ἐγὠ σοι ἀποστέλλω ἔριφον αἰγῶν ἐκ τῶν προβάτων. ἡ δὲ εἶπεν Ἐὰν δῷς ἀρραβῶνα ἕως τοῦ ἀποστεῖλαί σε. ¹⁸ And he said,𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 What𐤀𐤔𐤓 pledge𐤄𐤏𐤓𐤁𐤅𐤍 shall I give𐤀𐤕𐤍 thee? And she said,𐤅𐤕𐤀𐤌𐤓 Thy signet,𐤇𐤕𐤌𐤊 and thy bracelets,𐤅𐤐𐤕𐤉𐤋𐤊 and thy staff𐤅𐤌𐤈𐤊 that is in thine hand.𐤁𐤉𐤃𐤊 And he gave𐤅𐤉𐤕𐤍 it her, and came in𐤅𐤉𐤁𐤀 unto her, and she conceived𐤅𐤕𐤄𐤓 by him. ὁ δὲ εἶπεν τίνα τὸν ἀρραβῶνά σοι δώσω ; ἠ’ δὲ εἶπεν τὸν δακτύλιόν σου καὶ τὸν ὁρμίσκον καὶ τὴν ῥάβδον τὴν ἐν τῇ χειρί σου. καὶ ἔδωκεν αὐτῇ, καὶ εἰσῆλθεν πρὸς αὐτήν· καὶ ἐν γαστρὶ ἔλαβεν ἐξ αὐτοῦ. ¹⁹ And she arose,𐤅𐤕𐤒𐤌 and went away, and laid by𐤅𐤕𐤎𐤓 her vail𐤑𐤏𐤉𐤐𐤄 from her, and put on𐤅𐤕𐤋𐤁𐤔 the garments𐤁𐤂𐤃𐤉 of her widowhood.𐤀𐤋𐤌𐤍𐤅𐤕𐤄 καὶ ἀναστᾶσα ἀπῆλθεν, καὶ περιείλατο τὸ θέριστρον ἀφ’ ἑαυτῆς, καὶ ἐνεδύσατο τὰ ἱμάτια τῆς αὐτῆς. ²⁰ And Judah𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤃𐤄 sent𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤋𐤇 the kid𐤂𐤃𐤉 𐤄𐤏𐤆𐤉𐤌 by the hand𐤁𐤉𐤃 of his friend𐤓𐤏𐤄𐤅 the Adullamite,𐤄𐤏𐤃𐤋𐤌𐤉 to receive𐤋𐤒𐤇𐤕 his pledge𐤄𐤏𐤓𐤁𐤅𐤍 from the woman's𐤄𐤀𐤔𐤄 hand:𐤌𐤉𐤃 but he found her𐤌𐤑𐤀𐤄 not. ἀπέστειλεν δὲ Ἰούδας τὸν ἔριφον ἐξ αἰγῶν ἐν ὶ τοῦ ποιμένος αὐτοῦ τοῦ ’oδολλαμείτου, κομίσασθαι τὸν ἀρραβῶνα παρὰ τῆς γυναικός· καὶ οὐχ εὗρεν αὐτήν. ²¹ Then he asked𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤀𐤋 the men𐤀𐤍𐤔𐤉 of that place,𐤌𐤒𐤌𐤄 saying,𐤋𐤀𐤌𐤓 Where is the harlot,𐤄𐤒𐤃𐤔𐤄 that was openly by the way side?𐤄𐤃𐤓𐤊 And they said,𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓𐤅 There was no harlot𐤒𐤃𐤔𐤄 in this𐤁𐤆𐤄 place. ἐπηρώτησεν δὲ τοὺς ἂνδρας τοὺς ἐπὶ τοῦ τόπου Ποῦ ἐστιν ἡ πόρνη ἡ γενομένη ἐν Αἰνὰν τῆς ὁδοῦ ; καὶ εἶπαν οὐκ ἦν ἐνταῦθα πόρνη. ²² And he returned𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤁 to Judah,𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤃𐤄 and said,𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 I cannot𐤋𐤀 find𐤌𐤑𐤀𐤕𐤉𐤄 her; and also the men𐤀𐤍𐤔𐤉 of the place𐤄𐤌𐤒𐤅𐤌 said,𐤀𐤌𐤓𐤅 that there was no harlot𐤒𐤃𐤔𐤄 in this place. καὶ ἀπεστράφη πρὸς Ιούδαν καὶ εἶπεν οὐχ εὗρον, καὶ οἱ ἄνθρωποι οἱ ἐκ τοῦ τόπου λέγου. σιν μὴ εἶναι ἐνταῦθα πόρνην. ²³ And Judah𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤃𐤄 said,𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 Let her take𐤕𐤒𐤇 it to her, lest we be shamed:𐤋𐤁𐤅𐤆 behold, I sent𐤔𐤋𐤇𐤕𐤉 this kid,𐤄𐤂𐤃𐤉 and thou hast not found𐤌𐤑𐤀𐤕𐤄 her. εἶπεν δὲ Ἰούδας Ἐχέτω αὐτά, ἀλλὰ μή ποτε καταγελασθῶμεν· ἐγὼ μὲν ἀπέσταλκα τὸν ἔριφον τοῦτον, σὺ δὲ οὐχ εὕρηκας. ²⁴ And it came to pass about three𐤊𐤌𐤔𐤋𐤔 months𐤇𐤃𐤔𐤉𐤌 after, that it was told𐤅𐤉𐤂𐤃 Judah,𐤋𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤃𐤄 saying,𐤋𐤀𐤌𐤓 Tamar𐤕𐤌𐤓 thy daughter in law𐤊𐤋𐤕𐤊 hath played the harlot;𐤆𐤍𐤕𐤄 and also, behold, she is with child𐤄𐤓𐤄 by whoredom.𐤋𐤆𐤍𐤅𐤍𐤉𐤌 And Judah𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤃𐤄 said,𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 Bring her forth,𐤄𐤅𐤑𐤉𐤀𐤅𐤄 and let her be burnt.𐤅𐤕𐤔𐤓𐤐 ἐγένετο δὲ μετὰ τρίμηνον ἀπηγγέλη τῷ Ἰούδᾳ λέγοντες Ἐκπεπόρνευκεν Θαμάρ ἡ νύμφη σου, καὶ ἰδοὺ ἐν γαστρὶ ἕλει ἐκ πορνείας. εἶπεν δὲ Ἰούδας Ἐξαγάγετε αὐτὴν καὶ κατακαυθήτω. ²⁵ When she was brought forth,𐤌𐤅𐤑𐤀𐤕 she sent𐤔𐤋𐤇𐤄 to her father in law,𐤇𐤌𐤉𐤄 saying,𐤋𐤀𐤌𐤓 By the man,𐤋𐤀𐤉𐤔 whose these are, am I with child:𐤄𐤓𐤄 and she said,𐤅𐤕𐤀𐤌𐤓 Discern,𐤄𐤊𐤓 I pray thee, whose are these, the signet,𐤄𐤇𐤕𐤌𐤕 and bracelets,𐤅𐤄𐤐𐤕𐤉𐤋𐤉𐤌 and staff.𐤅𐤄𐤌𐤈𐤄 αὐτἠ δὲ ἀγομένη ἀπέστειλεν πρὸς τὸν πενθερὸν αὐτῆς λέγουσα Ἐκ τοῦ ἀνθρώπου τίνος ταῦτά ἐστιν ἐγὼ ἐν γαστρὶ ἔχω· καὶ εἶπεν Ἐπίγνωθι τίνος ὁ δακτύλιος κα ὁ ὁρμίσκος καὶ ἡ ῥάβδος αὕτη. ²⁶ And Judah𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤃𐤄 acknowledged𐤅𐤉𐤊𐤓 them, and said,𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 She hath been more righteous𐤑𐤃𐤒𐤄 than I; because that I gave𐤍𐤕𐤕𐤉𐤄 her not to Shelah𐤋𐤔𐤋𐤄 my son.𐤁𐤍𐤉 And he knew her𐤋𐤃𐤏𐤕𐤄 again𐤉𐤎𐤐 no more. ἐπέγνω δὲ Ἰούδας καὶ εἶπεν Δεδικαίωται Θαμὰρ ἢ ἐγώ, οὗ εἵνεκεν οὐκ ἔδωκα αὐτὴν Σηλὼμ τῷ υἱῷ μου· καὶ οὐ προσέθετο ἔτι τοῦ γνῶναι αὐτήν. ²⁷ And it came to pass in the time𐤁𐤏𐤕 of her travail,𐤋𐤃𐤕𐤄 that, behold, twins𐤕𐤀𐤅𐤌𐤉𐤌 were in her womb.𐤁𐤁𐤈𐤍𐤄 ἐγένετο δὲ ἡνίκα ἒτεκεν, καὶ τῇδε ἦν δίδυμα ἐν τῇ κοιλίᾳ αὐτῆς. ²⁸ And it came to pass, when she travailed,𐤁𐤋𐤃𐤕𐤄 that the one put out𐤅𐤉𐤕𐤍 his hand:𐤉𐤃 and the midwife𐤄𐤌𐤉𐤋𐤃𐤕 took𐤅𐤕𐤒𐤇 and bound𐤅𐤕𐤒𐤔𐤓 upon his hand𐤉𐤃𐤅 a scarlet thread,𐤔𐤍𐤉 saying,𐤋𐤀𐤌𐤓 This came out𐤉𐤑𐤀 first.𐤓𐤀𐤔𐤍𐤄 ἐγένετο δὲ ἐν τῷ τίκτειν αὐτὴν ὁ εἷς προεξήνεγκεν τὴν χεῖρα· λαβοῦσα δὲ ἡ μαῖα ἔδησεν ἐπὶ τὴν χεῖρα αὐτοῦ κόκκινον, λέγουσα Οὖ τος ἐξελεύσεται πρότερος. ²⁹ And it came to pass, as he drew back𐤊𐤌𐤔𐤉𐤁 his hand,𐤉𐤃𐤅 that, behold, his brother𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤅 came out:𐤉𐤑𐤀 and she said,𐤅𐤕𐤀𐤌𐤓 How hast thou broken forth?𐤐𐤓𐤑𐤕 this breach𐤐𐤓𐤑 be upon thee: therefore his name𐤔𐤌𐤅 was called𐤅𐤉𐤒𐤓𐤀 Pharez.𐤐𐤓𐤑 ἠὼς δὲ ἐπισυνήγαγεν τὴν χεῖρα, καὶ εὐθὺς ἐξῆλθεν ὁ ἀδελφὸς αὐτοῦ. ἡ δὲ εἶπεν Τί διεκόπη διὰ σὲ φραγμός ; καὶ ἐκάλεσεν τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ Φάρες. ³⁰ And afterward𐤅𐤀𐤇𐤓 came out𐤉𐤑𐤀 his brother,𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤅 that had the scarlet thread𐤄𐤔𐤍𐤉 upon his hand:𐤉𐤃𐤅 and his name𐤔𐤌𐤅 was called𐤅𐤉𐤒𐤓𐤀 Zarah.𐤆𐤓𐤇 𐤎 καὶ μετὰ τοῦτο ἐξῆλθεν ὁ ἀδελφὸς αὐτοῦ, ἐφ’ ᾧ ἦν ἐπὶ τὴν χεῖρα αὐτοῦ τὸ κόκκινον· καὶ ἐκάλεσεν τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ Ζάρα.
