Chapter 40 ¹ And it came to pass after𐤀𐤇𐤓 these things,𐤄𐤃𐤁𐤓𐤉𐤌 that the butler of the king𐤌𐤋𐤊 of Egypt𐤌𐤑𐤓𐤉𐤌 and his baker𐤅𐤄𐤀𐤐𐤄 had offended𐤇𐤈𐤀𐤅 their lord𐤋𐤀𐤃𐤍𐤉𐤄𐤌 the king𐤋𐤌𐤋𐤊 of Egypt.𐤌𐤑𐤓𐤉𐤌 Ἐγένετο δὲ μετὰ τὰ ῥήματα ταῦτα ἥμαρτεν ὁ ἀρχιοινοχόος τοῦ βασιλέως Αἰγύπτου καὶ ὁ ἀρχισιτοποιὸς τῷ κυρίῳ αὐτῶν βασιλεῖ Αἰγύπτου. ² And Pharaoh𐤐𐤓𐤏𐤄 was wroth𐤅𐤉𐤒𐤑𐤐 against𐤏𐤋 two𐤔𐤍𐤉 of his officers,𐤎𐤓𐤉𐤎𐤉𐤅 against the chief𐤔𐤓 of the butlers, and against the chief𐤔𐤓 of the bakers.𐤄𐤀𐤅𐤐𐤉𐤌 καὶ ὠργίσθη Φαραὼ ἐπὶ τοῖς δυσὶν εὐνούχοις αὐτοῦ, ἐπὶ τῷ ἀρχιοινοχόῳ καὶ ἐπὶ τῷ ἀρχισιτοποιῷ· ³ And he put𐤅𐤉𐤕𐤍 them in ward𐤁𐤌𐤔𐤌𐤓 in the house𐤁𐤉𐤕 of the captain𐤔𐤓 of the guard,𐤄𐤈𐤁𐤇𐤉𐤌 into the prison,𐤁𐤉𐤕 𐤄𐤎𐤄𐤓 the place𐤌𐤒𐤅𐤌 where Joseph𐤉𐤅𐤎𐤐 was bound.𐤀𐤎𐤅𐤓 καὶ ἔθετο αὐτοὺς ἐν φυλακῇ παρὰ τῷ ἀρχιδεσμοφύλακι εἰς τὸ δεσμωτήριον, εἰς τὸν τόπον οὗ Ἰωσὴφ ἀπῆκτο ἐκεῖ. ⁴ And the captain𐤔𐤓 of the guard𐤄𐤈𐤁𐤇𐤉𐤌 charged𐤅𐤉𐤐𐤒𐤃 Joseph𐤉𐤅𐤎𐤐 with them, and he served𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤕 them: and they continued a season𐤉𐤌𐤉𐤌 in ward.𐤁𐤌𐤔𐤌𐤓 καὶ συνέστησεν ὁ ἀρχιδεσμώτης τῷ Ἰωσὴφ αὐτούς, καὶ παρέστη αὐτοῖς· ἦσαν δὲ ἡμέρας ἐν τῇ φυλακῇ. ⁵ And they dreamed𐤅𐤉𐤇𐤋𐤌𐤅 a dream𐤇𐤋𐤅𐤌 both of them,𐤔𐤍𐤉𐤄𐤌 each man𐤀𐤉𐤔 his dream𐤇𐤋𐤌𐤅 in one𐤀𐤇𐤃 night,𐤁𐤋𐤉𐤋𐤄 each man𐤀𐤉𐤔 according to the interpretation𐤊𐤐𐤕𐤓𐤅𐤍 of his dream,𐤇𐤋𐤌𐤅 the butler and the baker𐤅𐤄𐤀𐤐𐤄 of the king𐤋𐤌𐤋𐤊 of Egypt,𐤌𐤑𐤓𐤉𐤌 which were bound𐤀𐤎𐤅𐤓𐤉𐤌 in the prison.𐤁𐤁𐤉𐤕 𐤄𐤎𐤄𐤓 καὶ ἴδον ἀμφότεροι ἐνύπνιον, ἑκάτερος ἐνύπνιον ἐν μιᾷ νυκτί, ὃεασις τοῦ ἐνυπνίου αὐτοῦ, ὁ ἀρχιοινοχόος καὶ ὁ ἀρχισιτοποιὸς οἳ ἦσαν τῶ βασιλεῖ Αἰγύπτου, οἱ ὄντες ἐν τῷ δεσμωτηρίῳ. ⁶ And Joseph𐤉𐤅𐤎𐤐 came in𐤅𐤉𐤁𐤀 unto them in the morning,𐤁𐤁𐤒𐤓 and looked𐤅𐤉𐤓𐤀 upon them, and, behold, they were sad.𐤆𐤏𐤐𐤉𐤌 εἰσῆλθεν δὲ πρὸς αὐτοὺς τὸ πρωὶ Ἰωσήφ, καὶ ἴδεν αὐτοὺς καὶ ἦσαν τεταραγμένοι. ⁷ And he asked𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤀𐤋 Pharaoh's𐤐𐤓𐤏𐤄 officers𐤎𐤓𐤉𐤎𐤉 that were with him in the ward𐤁𐤌𐤔𐤌𐤓 of his lord's𐤀𐤃𐤍𐤉𐤅 house,𐤁𐤉𐤕 saying,𐤋𐤀𐤌𐤓 Wherefore look𐤐𐤍𐤉𐤊𐤌 ye so sadly𐤓𐤏𐤉𐤌 to day?𐤄𐤉𐤅𐤌 καὶ ἠρώτα τοὺς εὐνούχους Φαραώ, οἳ ἦσαν μετ’ αὐτοῦ ἐν τῆ φυλακῇ παρὰ τῷ κυρίῳ αὐτοῦ, λέγων Τί ὃτι τὰ πρόσωπα ὑμῶν σκυθρωπὰ σήμερον ; ⁸ And they said𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓𐤅 unto him, We have dreamed𐤇𐤋𐤌𐤍𐤅 a dream,𐤇𐤋𐤅𐤌 and there is no interpreter𐤅𐤐𐤕𐤓 of it. And Joseph𐤉𐤅𐤎𐤐 said𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 unto them, Do not interpretations𐤐𐤕𐤓𐤍𐤉𐤌 belong to God?𐤋𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤌 tell me𐤎𐤐𐤓𐤅 them, I pray you. οἱ δὲ εἶπαν αὐτῷ Ἐνύπνιον ἴδομεν, καὶ ὁ συγκρίνων αὐτὸ οὐκ ἔστιν. εἶπεν δὲ αὐτοῖς Ἰωσήφ οὐχὶ διὰ τοῦ θεοῦ ἡ διασάφησις αὐτῶν ἐστίν ; διηγήσασθε οὖν μοι. ⁹ And the chief𐤔𐤓 butler told𐤅𐤉𐤎𐤐𐤓 his dream𐤇𐤋𐤌𐤅 to Joseph,𐤋𐤉𐤅𐤎𐤐 and said𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 to him, In my dream,𐤁𐤇𐤋𐤅𐤌𐤉 behold, a vine𐤂𐤐𐤍 was before me;𐤋𐤐𐤍𐤉 καὶ διηγήσατο ὁ ἀρχιοινοχόος τὸ ἐνύπνιον αὐτοῦ τῷ ἸωσὴΦ καὶ εἶπεν Ἐν τῷ ὕπνῳ μου ἢν ἄμπελος ἐναντίον μου. ¹⁰ And in the vine𐤅𐤁𐤂𐤐𐤍 were three𐤔𐤋𐤔𐤄 branches:𐤔𐤓𐤉𐤂𐤌 and it was as though it budded,𐤊𐤐𐤓𐤇𐤕 and her blossoms𐤍𐤑𐤄 shot forth;𐤏𐤋𐤕𐤄 and the clusters𐤀𐤔𐤊𐤋𐤕𐤉𐤄 thereof brought forth ripe𐤄𐤁𐤔𐤉𐤋𐤅 grapes:𐤏𐤍𐤁𐤉𐤌 ἐν ἐν δὲ τῇ ἀμπέλῳ τρεῖς πυθμένες, καὶ αὐτὴ θάλλουσα ἀνενηνοχυῖα βλαστούς· πέπειροι οἱ βότρυες σταφυλῆς. ¹¹ And Pharaoh's𐤐𐤓𐤏𐤄 cup𐤅𐤊𐤅𐤎 was in my hand:𐤁𐤉𐤃𐤉 and I took𐤅𐤀𐤒𐤇 the grapes,𐤄𐤏𐤍𐤁𐤉𐤌 and pressed𐤅𐤀𐤔𐤇𐤈 them into Pharaoh's𐤐𐤓𐤏𐤄 cup,𐤊𐤅𐤎 and I gave𐤅𐤀𐤕𐤍 the cup𐤄𐤊𐤅𐤎 into Pharaoh's𐤐𐤓𐤏𐤄 hand.𐤊𐤐 καὶ τὸ ποτήριον Φαραὼ ἐν τῇ χειρί μου· καὶ ἔλαβον τὴν σταφυλὴν καὶ ἐξέθλιψα αὐτὴν εἰς τὸ πωήριον, καὶ ἔδωκα τὸ ποτήριον εἰς τὰς χεῖρας Φαραώ. ¹² And Joseph𐤉𐤅𐤎𐤐 said𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 unto him, This is the interpretation𐤐𐤕𐤓𐤍𐤅 of it: The three𐤔𐤋𐤔𐤕 branches𐤄𐤔𐤓𐤂𐤉𐤌 are three𐤔𐤋𐤔𐤕 days:𐤉𐤌𐤉𐤌 καὶ εῖπεν αὐτῷ ’lωσήφ τοῦτο ἡ σύγκρισις αὐτοῦ. οἱ τρεῖς πυθμένες τρεῖς ἡ εἰσίν· ¹³ Yet𐤁𐤏𐤅𐤃 within three𐤔𐤋𐤔𐤕 days𐤉𐤌𐤉𐤌 shall Pharaoh𐤐𐤓𐤏𐤄 lift up𐤉𐤔𐤀 thine head,𐤓𐤀𐤔𐤊 and restore𐤅𐤄𐤔𐤉𐤁𐤊 thee unto thy place:𐤊𐤍𐤊 and thou shalt deliver𐤅𐤍𐤕𐤕 Pharaoh's𐤐𐤓𐤏𐤄 cup𐤊𐤅𐤎 into his hand,𐤁𐤉𐤃𐤅 after the former𐤄𐤓𐤀𐤔𐤅𐤍 manner𐤊𐤌𐤔𐤐𐤈 when thou wast his butler. ἒτι τρεῖς ἡμέραι καὶ μνησθήσεται Φαραὼ τῆς ἀρχῆς σου, καὶ ἀποκαταστήσει σε ἐπὶ τὴν ἀρχιοινοχοίαν σου, καὶ δώσεις τὸ ποτήριον Φαραὼ εἰς τὴν χεῖρα αὐτοῦ κατὰ τὴν ἀρχήν σου τὴν προτέραν, ὡς ἦσθα οἰνοχοῶν· ¹⁴ But think𐤆𐤊𐤓𐤕𐤍𐤉 on me when it shall be well𐤉𐤉𐤈𐤁 with thee, and shew𐤅𐤏𐤔𐤉𐤕 kindness,𐤇𐤎𐤃 I pray thee, unto me, and make mention𐤅𐤄𐤆𐤊𐤓𐤕𐤍𐤉 of me unto Pharaoh,𐤐𐤓𐤏𐤄 and bring me𐤅𐤄𐤅𐤑𐤀𐤕𐤍𐤉 out of this house:𐤄𐤁𐤉𐤕 ἀλλὰ μνήσθητί μου διὰ σεαυτοῦ ὅταν εὖ σοι γένηται, καὶ ἐμοὶ ἔλεος, καὶ μνησθήσῃ περὶ ἐμοῦ Φαραώ, καὶ ἐξάξεις με ἐκ τοῦ ὀχυρώματος τούτου· ¹⁵ For indeed I was stolen away𐤂𐤍𐤁 out of the land𐤌𐤀𐤓𐤑 of the Hebrews:𐤄𐤏𐤁𐤓𐤉𐤌 and here also have I done𐤏𐤔𐤉𐤕𐤉 nothing𐤌𐤀𐤅𐤌𐤄 that they should put𐤔𐤌𐤅 me into the dungeon.𐤁𐤁𐤅𐤓 ὃτι κλοπῇ ἐκλάπην ἐκ γῆς Ἐβραίων, καὶ οὐκ οὐκ ἐποίησα οὐδέν, ἀλλ’ ἐνέβαλόν με εἰς τὸν λάκκον τοῦτον. ¹⁶ When the chief𐤔𐤓 baker𐤄𐤀𐤐𐤉𐤌 saw𐤅𐤉𐤓𐤀 that the interpretation𐤐𐤕𐤓 was good,𐤈𐤅𐤁 he said𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 unto Joseph,𐤉𐤅𐤎𐤐 I also𐤀𐤐 was in my dream,𐤁𐤇𐤋𐤅𐤌𐤉 and, behold, I had three𐤔𐤋𐤔𐤄 white𐤇𐤓𐤉 baskets𐤎𐤋𐤉 on my head:𐤓𐤀𐤔𐤉 καὶ ἴδεν ὁ ἀρχισιτοποιὸς ὅτι ὀρθῶς συνέκρινεν, καὶ εἶπεν τῷ Ἰωσήφ κἀγὼ ἴδον ἐνύπνιον, καὶ ᾤμην τρία κανᾶ χονδριτῶν αἴρειν ἐπὶ τῆς κεφαλῆς μου· ¹⁷ And in the uppermost𐤄𐤏𐤋𐤉𐤅𐤍 basket𐤅𐤁𐤎𐤋 there was of all manner𐤌𐤀𐤊𐤋 of bakemeats𐤌𐤏𐤔𐤄 𐤀𐤐𐤄 for Pharaoh;𐤐𐤓𐤏𐤄 and the birds𐤅𐤄𐤏𐤅𐤐 did eat𐤀𐤊𐤋 them out of the basket𐤄𐤎𐤋 upon𐤌𐤏𐤋 my head.𐤓𐤀𐤔𐤉 ἐν δὲ τῷ κανῷ τῷ ἐπάνω ἀπὸ πάντων τῶν γενημάτων ὦν ὁ βασιλεὺς Φαραὼ ἐσθίει, ἔργον σιτοποιοῦ· καὶ τὰ πετεινὰ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ κατήσθιεν αὐτὰ ἀπὸ τοῦ κανοῦ τοῦ ἐπάνω τῆς κεφαλῆς μου. ¹⁸ And Joseph𐤉𐤅𐤎𐤐 answered𐤅𐤉𐤏𐤍 and said,𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 This is the interpretation𐤐𐤕𐤓𐤍𐤅 thereof: The three𐤔𐤋𐤔𐤕 baskets𐤄𐤎𐤋𐤉𐤌 are three𐤔𐤋𐤔𐤕 days:𐤉𐤌𐤉𐤌 ἀποκριυεὶς δὲ ἸωσὴΦ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Αὕτη ἡ σύγκρισις αὐτοῦ. τὰ τρία κανᾶ τρεῖς ἡμέραι εἰσίν· ¹⁹ Yet within three𐤔𐤋𐤔𐤕 days𐤉𐤌𐤉𐤌 shall Pharaoh𐤐𐤓𐤏𐤄 lift up𐤉𐤔𐤀 thy head𐤓𐤀𐤔𐤊 from off thee, and shall hang𐤅𐤕𐤋𐤄 thee on a tree;𐤏𐤑 and the birds𐤄𐤏𐤅𐤐 shall eat𐤅𐤀𐤊𐤋 thy flesh𐤁𐤔𐤓𐤊 from off thee. ἒτι τριῶν ἡμερῶν ἀφελεῖ Φαραὼ τὴν κεφαλήν σου ἀπὸ σοῦ, καὶ κρεμάσει σε ἐπὶ ξύλου, καὶ φάγεται τὰ ὄρνεα τοῦ οὐρανοῦ τὰς σάρκας σου ἀπὸ σοῦ. ²⁰ And it came to pass the third𐤄𐤔𐤋𐤉𐤔𐤉 day,𐤁𐤉𐤅𐤌 which was Pharaoh's𐤐𐤓𐤏𐤄 birthday,𐤉𐤅𐤌 𐤄𐤋𐤃𐤕 that he made𐤅𐤉𐤏𐤔 a feast𐤌𐤔𐤕𐤄 unto all his servants:𐤏𐤁𐤃𐤉𐤅 and he lifted up𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤀 the head𐤓𐤀𐤔 of the chief𐤔𐤓 butler and of the chief𐤔𐤓 baker𐤄𐤀𐤐𐤉𐤌 among𐤁𐤕𐤅𐤊 his servants.𐤏𐤁𐤃𐤉𐤅 ἐγένετο δὲ ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῆ τρίτη ἡμέρα γενέσεως ἦν Φαραώ. καὶ ἐποίει πότον πᾶσι τοῖς παισὶν αὐτοῦ. καὶ ἐμνήσθη τῆς ἀρχῆς τοῦ ἀρχιοινοχόου καὶ τῆς ἀρχῆς τοῦ ἀρχισιτοποιοῦ ἐν μέσῳ τῶν παίδων αὐτοῦ. ²¹ And he restored𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤁 the chief𐤔𐤓 butler unto his butlership𐤄𐤌𐤔𐤒𐤉𐤌 again; and he gave𐤅𐤉𐤕𐤍 the cup𐤄𐤊𐤅𐤎 into Pharaoh's𐤐𐤓𐤏𐤄 hand:𐤊𐤐 καὶ ἀπεκατέστησεν τὸν ἀρχιοινοχόον ἐπὶ τὴν ἀρχὴν αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἔδωκεν τὸ ποτήριον εἰς τὴν χεῖρα Φαραώ. ²² But he hanged𐤕𐤋𐤄 the chief𐤔𐤓 baker:𐤄𐤀𐤐𐤉𐤌 as Joseph𐤉𐤅𐤎𐤐 had interpreted𐤐𐤕𐤓 to them. τὀν δὲ ἀρχισιτοποιὸν ἐκρέμασεν, καθὰ συνέκρινεν αὐτοῖς ἸωσήΦ. ²³ Yet did not the chief𐤔𐤓 butler remember𐤆𐤊𐤓 Joseph,𐤉𐤅𐤎𐤐 but forgat𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤊𐤇𐤄𐤅 𐤐 him. οὐκ ἐμνήσθη δὲ ὁ ἀρχιοινοχόος τοῦ ἸςσήΦ, ἀλλὰ αὐτοῦ.
