Chapter 35 ¹ And God𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤌 said𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 unto Jacob,𐤉𐤏𐤒𐤁 Arise,𐤒𐤅𐤌 go up𐤏𐤋𐤄 to Beth–el,𐤁𐤉𐤕 and dwell𐤅𐤔𐤁 there: and make𐤅𐤏𐤔𐤄 there an altar𐤌𐤆𐤁𐤇 unto God,𐤋𐤀𐤋 that appeared𐤄𐤍𐤓𐤀𐤄 unto thee when thou fleddest𐤁𐤁𐤓𐤇𐤊 from the face𐤌𐤐𐤍𐤉 of Esau𐤏𐤔𐤅 thy brother.𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤊 Εἶπεν δὲ ὁ θεὸς πρὸς Ἰακώβ Ἀνασὰς ἀνάβηθι εἰς τὸν τόπον λ, καὶ οἴκει ἐκεῖ· καὶ ποίησον ἐκεῖ θυσιαστήριον τῷ θεῷ τῷ ὀφθέντι σοι ἐν τῷ ἀποδιδράσκειν σε ἀπὸ προσώπου Ἠσαὺ τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ σου. ² Then Jacob𐤉𐤏𐤒𐤁 said𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 unto his household,𐤁𐤉𐤕𐤅 and to all that were with him, Put away𐤄𐤎𐤓𐤅 the strange𐤄𐤍𐤊𐤓 gods𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉 that are among you,𐤁𐤕𐤊𐤊𐤌 and be clean,𐤅𐤄𐤈𐤄𐤓𐤅 and change𐤅𐤄𐤇𐤋𐤉𐤐𐤅 your garments:𐤔𐤌𐤋𐤕𐤉𐤊𐤌 εἶπεν δὲ Ἰακὼβ τῷ οἴκῳ αὐτοῦ καὶ πᾶσιν τοῖς μετ’ αὐτοῦ Ἄρατε τοὺς θεοὺς τοὺς ἀλλοτρίους ἐκ μέσου ὑμῶν, καὶ καθαρίσασθε, καὶ ἀλλάξατε τὰς στολὰς ὑμῶν· ³ And let us arise,𐤅𐤍𐤒𐤅𐤌𐤄 and go up𐤅𐤍𐤏𐤋𐤄 to Beth–el;𐤁𐤉𐤕 and I will make𐤅𐤀𐤏𐤔𐤄 there an altar𐤌𐤆𐤁𐤇 unto God,𐤋𐤀𐤋 who answered𐤄𐤏𐤍𐤄 me in the day𐤁𐤉𐤅𐤌 of my distress,𐤑𐤓𐤕𐤉 and was with me in the way𐤁𐤃𐤓𐤊 which I went.𐤄𐤋𐤊𐤕𐤉 καὶ ἀναστάντες ἀναβῶμεν εἰς Βαιθήλ, καὶ ποιήσωμεν ἐκεῖ θυσιαστήριον τῷ θεῷ τῷ ἐπακούσαντί μοι ἐν ἡμέρᾳ θλίψεως, ὃς ἦν μετ’ ἐμοῦ καὶ διέσωσέν με ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ ᾗ ἐπορευόμην. ⁴ And they gave𐤅𐤉𐤕𐤍𐤅 unto Jacob𐤉𐤏𐤒𐤁 all the strange𐤄𐤍𐤊𐤓 gods𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉 which were in their hand,𐤁𐤉𐤃𐤌 and all their earrings𐤄𐤍𐤆𐤌𐤉𐤌 which were in their ears;𐤁𐤀𐤆𐤍𐤉𐤄𐤌 and Jacob𐤉𐤏𐤒𐤁 hid𐤅𐤉𐤈𐤌𐤍 them under the oak𐤄𐤀𐤋𐤄 which was by Shechem.𐤔𐤊𐤌 καὶ ἔδωκαν τῷ Ἰακὼβ τοὺς θεοὺς τοὺς ἀλλοτρίους οἳ ἦσαν ἐν ταῖς χερσὶν αὐτῶν, καὶ τὰ ἐνώτια τὰ ἐν τοῖς ὠσὶν αὐτῶν· καὶ κατέκρυψεν αὐτὰ Ἰακὼβ ὑπὸ τὴν τερέβινθον τὴν ἐν Σικίμοις, καὶ ἀπώλεσεν αὐτὰ ἕως τῆς σήμερον ἡμέρας. ⁵ And they journeyed:𐤅𐤉𐤎𐤏𐤅 and the terror𐤇𐤕𐤕 of God𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤌 was upon the cities𐤄𐤏𐤓𐤉𐤌 that were round about𐤎𐤁𐤉𐤁𐤕𐤉𐤄𐤌 them, and they did not pursue𐤓𐤃𐤐𐤅 after𐤀𐤇𐤓𐤉 the sons𐤁𐤍𐤉 of Jacob.𐤉𐤏𐤒𐤁 καὶ ἐξῆρεν Ἰσραὴλ ἐκ Σικίμων· καὶ ἐγένετο φόβος θεοῦ ἐπὶ τὰς πόλεις τὰς κύκλῳ αὐτῶν, καὶ οὐ κατεδίωξαν ὀπίσω τῶν υἱῶν Ἰσραήλ. ⁶ So Jacob𐤉𐤏𐤒𐤁 came𐤅𐤉𐤁𐤀 to Luz,𐤋𐤅𐤆𐤄 which is in the land𐤁𐤀𐤓𐤑 of Canaan,𐤊𐤍𐤏𐤍 that is, Beth–el,𐤁𐤉𐤕 he and all the people𐤄𐤏𐤌 that were with him. ἦλθεν δὲ Ἰακὼβ εἰς Λοῦζα ἥ ἐστιν ἐν γῇ Χανάαν, ἥ ἐστιν Βαιθήλ, αὐτὸς καὶ πᾶς ὁ λαὸς ὃς ἦν μετ’ αὐτοῦ. ⁷ And he built𐤅𐤉𐤁𐤍 there an altar,𐤌𐤆𐤁𐤇 and called𐤅𐤉𐤒𐤓𐤀 the place𐤋𐤌𐤒𐤅𐤌 El–beth–el:𐤀𐤋 because there God𐤄𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤌 appeared𐤍𐤂𐤋𐤅 unto him, when he fled𐤁𐤁𐤓𐤇𐤅 from the face𐤌𐤐𐤍𐤉 of his brother.𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤅 καὶ ᾠκοδόμησεν ἐκεῖ θυσιαστήριον, καὶ ἐκάλεσεν τὸ ὄνομα τοῦ τόπου ἐκεῖ γὰρ ἐπεφάνη αὐτῷ ὁ θεὸς ἐν τῷ ἀποδιδράσκειν αὐτὸν ἀπὸ προσώπου Ἠσαὺ τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ αὐτοῦ. ⁸ But Deborah𐤃𐤁𐤓𐤄 Rebekah's𐤓𐤁𐤒𐤄 nurse𐤌𐤉𐤍𐤒𐤕 died,𐤅𐤕𐤌𐤕 and she was buried𐤅𐤕𐤒𐤁𐤓 beneath Beth–el𐤋𐤁𐤉𐤕 under an oak:𐤄𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤍 and the name𐤔𐤌𐤅 of it was called𐤅𐤉𐤒𐤓𐤀 Allon–bachuth.𐤀𐤋𐤅𐤍 ἀπέθανεν δὲ Δεββωρὰ ἡ Ῥεβέκκας κατώτερον Βαιθὴλ ὑπὸ τὴν βάλανον· καὶ ἐκάλεσεν Ἰακὼβ τὸ ὄνομα αὐτῆς βάλανος πένθους. ⁹ And God𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤌 appeared𐤅𐤉𐤓𐤀 unto Jacob𐤉𐤏𐤒𐤁 again, when he came𐤁𐤁𐤀𐤅 out of Padan–aram,𐤌𐤐𐤃𐤍 and blessed𐤅𐤉𐤁𐤓𐤊 him. Ὤφθη δὲ ὁ θεὸς Ἰακὼβ ἔτι ἐν Λοῦζα, ὅτε παρεγένετο ἐκ Μεσοποταμίας τῆς Συρίας, καὶ ηὐλόγησεν αὐτὸν ὁ θεός. ¹⁰ And God𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤌 said𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 unto him, Thy name𐤔𐤌𐤊 is Jacob:𐤉𐤏𐤒𐤁 thy name𐤔𐤌𐤊 shall not be called𐤉𐤒𐤓𐤀 any more Jacob,𐤉𐤏𐤒𐤁 but Israel𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋 shall be thy name:𐤔𐤌𐤊 and he called𐤅𐤉𐤒𐤓𐤀 his name𐤔𐤌𐤅 Israel.𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋 καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ ὁ θεός Τὸ ὄνομά σου οὐ ἔτι Ἰακώβ, ἀλλ’ Ἰσραὴλ ἔσται τὸ ὄνομά σου. ¹¹ And God𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤌 said𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 unto him, I am God𐤀𐤋 Almighty:𐤔𐤃𐤉 be fruitful𐤐𐤓𐤄 and multiply;𐤅𐤓𐤁𐤄 a nation𐤂𐤅𐤉 and a company𐤅𐤒𐤄𐤋 of nations𐤂𐤅𐤉𐤌 shall be of thee, and kings𐤅𐤌𐤋𐤊𐤉𐤌 shall come𐤉𐤑𐤀𐤅 out of thy loins;𐤌𐤇𐤋𐤑𐤉𐤊 εἶπεν δὲ αὐτῷ θεός Ἐγὼ ὁ θεός σου· αὐξάνου καὶ πληθύνου· καὶ ἔθνη καὶ συναγωγαὶ ἐθνῶν ἔσονται ἐκ σοῦ, καὶ βασιλεῖς ἐκ τῆς ὀσφύος σου ἑ ¹² And the land𐤄𐤀𐤓𐤑 which I gave𐤍𐤕𐤕𐤉 Abraham𐤋𐤀𐤁𐤓𐤄𐤌 and Isaac,𐤅𐤋𐤉𐤑𐤇𐤒 to thee I will give it,𐤀𐤕𐤍𐤍𐤄 and to thy seed𐤅𐤋𐤆𐤓𐤏𐤊 after thee𐤀𐤇𐤓𐤉𐤊 will I give𐤀𐤕𐤍 the land.𐤄𐤀𐤓𐤑 καὶ τὴν γῆν ἢν δέδωκα Ἀβραὰμ καὶ Ἰσαάκ, σοὶ τῷ σπέρματί σου μετὰ σὲ δώσω τὴν γῆν ταύτην. ¹³ And God𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤌 went up𐤅𐤉𐤏𐤋 from him in the place𐤁𐤌𐤒𐤅𐤌 where he talked𐤃𐤁𐤓 with him. ἀνέβη δὲ ὁ ἀπ’ αὐτοῦ ἐκ τοῦ τόπου οὗ ἐλάλησεν μετ’ αὐτοῦ. ¹⁴ And Jacob𐤉𐤏𐤒𐤁 set up𐤅𐤉𐤑𐤁 a pillar𐤌𐤑𐤁𐤄 in the place𐤁𐤌𐤒𐤅𐤌 where he talked𐤃𐤁𐤓 with him, even a pillar𐤌𐤑𐤁𐤕 of stone:𐤀𐤁𐤍 and he poured𐤅𐤉𐤎𐤊 a drink offering𐤍𐤎𐤊 thereon, and he poured𐤅𐤉𐤑𐤒 oil𐤔𐤌𐤍 thereon. καὶ ἔστησεν Ἰακὼβ στήλην ἐν τῷ τόπῳ ᾧ ἐλάλησεν μετ’ αὐτοῦ, στήλην λιθίνην· καὶ ἔσπεισεν ἐπ’ αὐτὴν σπονδήν, καὶ ἐπέχεεν ἐπ’ αὐτὴν ἔλαιον. ¹⁵ And Jacob𐤉𐤏𐤒𐤁 called𐤅𐤉𐤒𐤓𐤀 the name𐤔𐤌 of the place𐤄𐤌𐤒𐤅𐤌 where God𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤌 spake𐤃𐤁𐤓 with him, Beth–el.𐤁𐤉𐤕 καὶ ἐκά Ἰακὼβ τὸ ὄνομα τοῦ τόπου, ἐν ᾧ ἐλάλησεν μετ’ αὐτοῦ ἐκεῖ ὁ ¹⁶ And they journeyed𐤅𐤉𐤎𐤏𐤅 from Beth–el;𐤌𐤁𐤉𐤕 and there was but𐤏𐤅𐤃 a little𐤊𐤁𐤓𐤕 way𐤄𐤀𐤓𐤑 to come𐤋𐤁𐤅𐤀 to Ephrath:𐤀𐤐𐤓𐤕𐤄 and Rachel𐤓𐤇𐤋 travailed,𐤅𐤕𐤋𐤃 and she had hard𐤅𐤕𐤒𐤔 labour.𐤁𐤋𐤃𐤕𐤄 Ἀπάρας δὲ Ἰακὼβ ἐκ Βαιθὴλ ἔπηξεν τὴν σκηνὴν αὐτοῦ τοῦ πύργου Γάδερ. ἐγένετο δὲ ἡνίκα ἤγγισεν χαβραθὰ εἰς γῆν ἐλθεῖν Ἐφράθα, ἔτεκεν Ῥαχήλ· καὶ ἐδυστόκησεν ἐν τῷ τοκετῷ. ¹⁷ And it came to pass, when she was in hard𐤁𐤄𐤒𐤔𐤕𐤄 labour,𐤁𐤋𐤃𐤕𐤄 that the midwife𐤄𐤌𐤉𐤋𐤃𐤕 said𐤅𐤕𐤀𐤌𐤓 unto her, Fear𐤕𐤉𐤓𐤀𐤉 not; thou shalt have this son𐤁𐤍 also. ἐγένετο δὲ ἐν τῷ σκληρῶς αὐτὴν τίκτειν εἶπεν αὐτῇ ἡ μαῖα Θάρσει, καὶ γὰρ οὗτός ἐστιν υἱός. ¹⁸ And it came to pass, as her soul𐤍𐤐𐤔𐤄 was in departing,𐤁𐤑𐤀𐤕 (for she died)𐤌𐤕𐤄 that she called𐤅𐤕𐤒𐤓𐤀 his name𐤔𐤌𐤅 Ben–oni:𐤁𐤍 but his father𐤅𐤀𐤁𐤉𐤅 called𐤒𐤓𐤀 him Benjamin.𐤁𐤍𐤉𐤌𐤉𐤍 ἐγένετο δὲ ἐν τῷ ἀφιέναι αὐτὴν τὴν ψυχήν, ἀπέθνησκεν γάρ, ἐκάλεσεν τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ Υἱὸς ὀδύνης μου· ὁ δὲ πατὴρ αὐτοῦ ἐκάλεσεν αὐτὸν Βενιαμείν. ¹⁹ And Rachel𐤓𐤇𐤋 died,𐤅𐤕𐤌𐤕 and was buried𐤅𐤕𐤒𐤁𐤓 in the way𐤁𐤃𐤓𐤊 to Ephrath,𐤀𐤐𐤓𐤕𐤄 which is Beth–lehem.𐤁𐤉𐤕 ἀπέθανεν δὲ Ῥαχήλ, καὶ ἐτάφη ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ Ἐφράθα· αὕτη ἐστὶν Βηθλέεμ. ²⁰ And Jacob𐤉𐤏𐤒𐤁 set𐤅𐤉𐤑𐤁 a pillar𐤌𐤑𐤁𐤄 upon her grave:𐤒𐤁𐤓𐤕𐤄 that is the pillar𐤌𐤑𐤁𐤕 of Rachel's𐤓𐤇𐤋 grave𐤒𐤁𐤓𐤕 unto this day.𐤄𐤉𐤅𐤌 καὶ ἔστησεν Ἰακὼβ στήλην ἐπὶ τοῦ μνημείου αὐτῆς· αὕτη ἐστὶν στήλη μνημείου Ῥαχὴλ ἕως τῆς σήμερον ἡμέρας ²¹ And Israel𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋 journeyed,𐤅𐤉𐤎𐤏 and spread𐤅𐤉𐤈 his tent𐤀𐤄𐤋𐤅 beyond𐤌𐤄𐤋𐤀𐤄 the tower of Edar.𐤋𐤌𐤂𐤃𐤋 ἐγένετο δὲ ἡνίκα κατῴκησεν Ἰσραὴλ ἐν τῇ γῇ ἐκείνῃ, ἐπορεύθη Ῥουβὴν καὶ ἐκοιμήθη μετὰ Βάλλας τῆς παλλακῆς τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ· καὶ ἤκουσεν Ἰσραήλ, καὶ πονηρὸν ἐφάνη ἐναντίον αὐτοῦ. ²² And it came to pass, when Israel𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋 dwelt𐤁𐤔𐤊𐤍 in that land,𐤁𐤀𐤓𐤑 that Reuben𐤓𐤀𐤅𐤁𐤍 went and lay𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤊𐤁 with Bilhah𐤁𐤋𐤄𐤄 his father's𐤀𐤁𐤉𐤅 concubine:𐤐𐤉𐤋𐤂𐤔 and Israel𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋 𐤐 heard𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤌𐤏 it. Now the sons𐤁𐤍𐤉 of Jacob𐤉𐤏𐤒𐤁 were twelve:𐤔𐤍𐤉𐤌 𐤏𐤔𐤓 Ἦσαν δὲ οἱ υἱοὶ Ἰακὼβ δώδεκα· ²³ The sons𐤁𐤍𐤉 of Leah;𐤋𐤀𐤄 Reuben,𐤓𐤀𐤅𐤁𐤍 Jacob's𐤉𐤏𐤒𐤁 firstborn,𐤁𐤊𐤅𐤓 and Simeon,𐤅𐤔𐤌𐤏𐤅𐤍 and Levi,𐤅𐤋𐤅𐤉 and Judah,𐤅𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤃𐤄 and Issachar,𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤔𐤊𐤓 and Zebulun:𐤅𐤆𐤁𐤅𐤋𐤍 υἱοὶ Λείας πρωτοτόκους Ἰακὼβ Ῥουβήν, Συμεών, Λευείς, Ἰούδας, Ἰσσαχάρ, Ζαβουλών· ²⁴ The sons𐤁𐤍𐤉 of Rachel;𐤓𐤇𐤋 Joseph,𐤉𐤅𐤎𐤐 and Benjamin:𐤅𐤁𐤍𐤉𐤌𐤍 υἱοὶ δὲ Ῥαχὴλ Ἰωσὴφ καὶ Βενιαμείν· ²⁵ And the sons𐤅𐤁𐤍𐤉 of Bilhah,𐤁𐤋𐤄𐤄 Rachel's𐤓𐤇𐤋 handmaid;𐤔𐤐𐤇𐤕 Dan,𐤃𐤍 and Naphtali:𐤅𐤍𐤐𐤕𐤋𐤉 υἱοὶ δὲ Βάλλας παιδίσκης Ῥαχὴλ Δὰν καὶ Νεφθαλείμ· ²⁶ And the sons𐤅𐤁𐤍𐤉 of Zilpah,𐤆𐤋𐤐𐤄 Leah's𐤋𐤀𐤄 handmaid;𐤔𐤐𐤇𐤕 Gad,𐤂𐤃 and Asher:𐤅𐤀𐤔𐤓 these are the sons𐤁𐤍𐤉 of Jacob,𐤉𐤏𐤒𐤁 which were born𐤉𐤋𐤃 to him in Padan–aram.𐤁𐤐𐤃𐤍 υἱοὶ δὲ Ζέλφας παιδίσκης λείας Γὰδ καὶ Ἀσήρ· οὗτοι οἱ υἱοὶ Ἰακώβ, οἳ ἐγένοντο αὐτῷ ἐν Μεσοποταμίᾳ τῆς Συρίας. ²⁷ And Jacob𐤉𐤏𐤒𐤁 came𐤅𐤉𐤁𐤀 unto Isaac𐤉𐤑𐤇𐤒 his father𐤀𐤁𐤉𐤅 unto Mamre,𐤌𐤌𐤓𐤀 unto the city of Arbah,𐤒𐤓𐤉𐤕 which is Hebron,𐤇𐤁𐤓𐤅𐤍 where Abraham𐤀𐤁𐤓𐤄𐤌 and Isaac𐤅𐤉𐤑𐤇𐤒 sojourned.𐤂𐤓 Ἦλθεν δὲ Ἰακὼβ πρὸς Ἰσαὰκ τὸν πατέρα αὐτοῦ εἰς ἡ, εἰς πόλιν τοῦ πεδίου· αὕτη ἐστὶν Χεβρὼν ἐν γῇ Χαναάαν, οὗ Ἀβραὰμ καὶ Ἰσαάκ. ²⁸ And the days𐤉𐤌𐤉 of Isaac𐤉𐤑𐤇𐤒 were an hundred𐤌𐤀𐤕 𐤔𐤍𐤄 and fourscore𐤅𐤔𐤌𐤍𐤉𐤌 years.𐤔𐤍𐤄 ἐγένοντο δὲ αἱ ἡμέραι Ἰσαὰκ ἃς ἔτη ἑκατὸν ὀγδοήκοντα. ²⁹ And Isaac𐤉𐤑𐤇𐤒 gave up the ghost,𐤅𐤉𐤂𐤅𐤏 and died,𐤅𐤉𐤌𐤕 and was gathered𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤎𐤐 unto his people,𐤏𐤌𐤉𐤅 being old𐤆𐤒𐤍 and full𐤅𐤔𐤁𐤏 of days:𐤉𐤌𐤉𐤌 and his sons𐤁𐤍𐤉𐤅 𐤐 Esau𐤏𐤔𐤅 and Jacob𐤅𐤉𐤏𐤒𐤁 buried𐤅𐤉𐤒𐤁𐤓𐤅 him. καὶ ἐκλιπὼν ἀπέθανεν, καὶ προσεπρὸς τὸ γένος αὐτοῦ πρεσβύτερος καὶ πλήρης ἡμερῶν· καὶ ἔθαψαν αὐτὸν Ἠσαὺ καὶ Ἰακὼβ οἱ υἱοὶ αὐτοῦ.
