Chapter 49 ¹ And Jacob𐤉𐤏𐤒𐤁 called𐤅𐤉𐤒𐤓𐤀 unto his sons,𐤁𐤍𐤉𐤅 and said,𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 Gather yourselves together,𐤄𐤀𐤎𐤐𐤅 that I may tell𐤅𐤀𐤂𐤉𐤃𐤄 you that which shall befall𐤉𐤒𐤓𐤀 you in the last𐤁𐤀𐤇𐤓𐤉𐤕 days.𐤄𐤉𐤌𐤉𐤌 Ἐκάλεσεν δὲ Ἰακὼβ τοὺς υἱοὺς αὐτοῦ καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Συνάχθητε, ἳνα ἀναηεἰλω ὑμῖν τί ἀπαντήσει ὑμῖν ἐπ’ ἐσχάτων τῶν ² Gather yourselves together,𐤄𐤒𐤁𐤑𐤅 and hear,𐤅𐤔𐤌𐤏𐤅 ye sons𐤁𐤍𐤉 of Jacob;𐤉𐤏𐤒𐤁 and hearken𐤅𐤔𐤌𐤏𐤅 unto Israel𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋 your father.𐤀𐤁𐤉𐤊𐤌 συνάχθητε καὶ ἀκούσατέ μου, υἱοὶ Ἰακώβ· ἀκούσατε Ἰσραήλ, ἀκούσατε τοῦ πατρὸς ὑμῶν. ³ Reuben,𐤓𐤀𐤅𐤁𐤍 thou art my firstborn,𐤁𐤊𐤓𐤉 my might,𐤊𐤇𐤉 and the beginning𐤅𐤓𐤀𐤔𐤉𐤕 of my strength,𐤀𐤅𐤍𐤉 the excellency𐤉𐤕𐤓 of dignity,𐤔𐤀𐤕 and the excellency𐤅𐤉𐤕𐤓 of power:𐤏𐤆 Ῥουβὴν πρωτότοκός μου, σὺ ἰσχύς μου καὶ ἀρχὴ τέκνων μου· σκληρὸς φέρεσθαι καἰ σκληρὸς αὐθάδης. ⁴ Unstable𐤐𐤇𐤆 as water,𐤊𐤌𐤉𐤌 thou shalt not excel;𐤕𐤅𐤕𐤓 because thou wentest up𐤏𐤋𐤉𐤕 to thy father's𐤀𐤁𐤉𐤊 bed;𐤌𐤔𐤊𐤁𐤉 then defiledst thou𐤇𐤋𐤋𐤕 it: he went up𐤏𐤋𐤄 𐤐 to my couch.𐤉𐤑𐤅𐤏𐤉 ἐξύβρισας ὡς ὕδωρ, μὴ ἐκζέσῃς. ἀνέβης γὰρ ἐπ’ τὴν κοιτην του πατρός σου· τότε ἐμίανας τὴν στρωμνὴν οὗ ἀνέβης. ἐμίανας τὴν στρωμνὴν οὗ ἀνέβης. ⁵ Simeon𐤔𐤌𐤏𐤅𐤍 and Levi𐤅𐤋𐤅𐤉 are brethren;𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤌 instruments𐤊𐤋𐤉 of cruelty𐤇𐤌𐤎 are in their habitations.𐤌𐤊𐤓𐤕𐤉𐤄𐤌 Συμεὼν καὶ Λευὶ ἀδελφοί· συνετέλεσαν ἀδικίαν ἐξ αἱρέσεως αὐτῶν. ⁶ O my soul,𐤍𐤐𐤔𐤉 come𐤕𐤁𐤀 not thou into their secret;𐤁𐤎𐤃𐤌 unto their assembly,𐤁𐤒𐤄𐤋𐤌 mine honour,𐤊𐤁𐤃𐤉 be not thou united:𐤕𐤇𐤃 for in their anger𐤁𐤀𐤐𐤌 they slew𐤄𐤓𐤂𐤅 a man,𐤀𐤉𐤔 and in their selfwill𐤅𐤁𐤓𐤑𐤍𐤌 they digged down𐤏𐤒𐤓𐤅 a wall.𐤔𐤅𐤓 εἰς βουλὴν αὐτῶν μὴ ἔλθοι ἡ ψυχή μου, καὶ ἐπὶ τῇ συστάσει αὐτῶν μὴ ἐρίσαι τὰ ἥπατά μου. ὅτι ἐν τῷ θυμῷ αὐτῶν ἀπέκτειναν ἀνθρώπους, καὶ ἐν τῇ ἐπιθυμίᾳ αὐγῶν ἐνευροκόπησαν ταῦρον. ⁷ Cursed𐤀𐤓𐤅𐤓 be their anger,𐤀𐤐𐤌 for it was fierce;𐤏𐤆 and their wrath,𐤅𐤏𐤁𐤓𐤕𐤌 for it was cruel:𐤒𐤔𐤕𐤄 I will divide𐤀𐤇𐤋𐤒𐤌 them in Jacob,𐤁𐤉𐤏𐤒𐤁 and scatter𐤅𐤀𐤐𐤉𐤑𐤌 them in Israel.𐤁𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋 𐤎 ἐπικατάρατος ὁ θυμὸς αὐτῶν, ὅτι αὐθάδης· καὶ ἡ μῆνις αὐτῶν, ὅτι ἐσκληρύνθη. διαμεριῶ αὐτοὺς ἐν Ἰακώβ, καὶ διασπερῶ αὐτοὺς ἐν Ἰσραήλ. ⁸ Judah,𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤃𐤄 thou art he whom thy brethren𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤊 shall praise:𐤉𐤅𐤃𐤅𐤊 thy hand𐤉𐤃𐤊 shall be in the neck𐤁𐤏𐤓𐤐 of thine enemies;𐤀𐤉𐤁𐤉𐤊 thy father's𐤀𐤁𐤉𐤊 children𐤁𐤍𐤉 shall bow down𐤉𐤔𐤕𐤇𐤅𐤅 before thee. Ἰούδα, σὲ αἰνέσαισαν οἱ ἀδελφοί σου· αἱ χεῖρές σου ἐπὶ νώτου τῶν ἐχθρῶν σου. προσκυνήσουσίν σοι οἱ υἱοὶ τοῦ πατρός σου. ⁹ Judah𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤃𐤄 is a lion's𐤀𐤓𐤉𐤄 whelp:𐤂𐤅𐤓 from the prey,𐤌𐤈𐤓𐤐 my son,𐤁𐤍𐤉 thou art gone up:𐤏𐤋𐤉𐤕 he stooped down,𐤊𐤓𐤏 he couched𐤓𐤁𐤑 as a lion,𐤊𐤀𐤓𐤉𐤄 and as an old lion;𐤅𐤊𐤋𐤁𐤉𐤀 who shall rouse him up?𐤉𐤒𐤉𐤌𐤍𐤅 σκύμνος λέοντος, Ἰούδα· ἐκ βλαστοῦ, υἱέ μου, ἀνέβης· ἀναπεσὼν ἐκοιμήθης ὡς λέων καὶ ὡς σκύμνος· τίς ἐγερεῖ αὐτόν ; ¹⁰ The sceptre𐤔𐤁𐤈 shall not depart𐤉𐤎𐤅𐤓 from Judah,𐤌𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤃𐤄 nor a lawgiver𐤅𐤌𐤇𐤒𐤒 from between his feet,𐤓𐤂𐤋𐤉𐤅 until𐤊𐤉 Shiloh𐤔𐤉𐤋𐤅 come;𐤉𐤁𐤀 and unto him shall the gathering𐤉𐤒𐤄𐤕 of the people𐤏𐤌𐤉𐤌 be. οὐκ ἐκλείψει ἄρχων ἑξ Ἰούδα, καὶ ἡγούμενος ἐκ τῶν ἕως ἂν ἔλθῃ τὰ ἀποκείμενα αὐτῶ, καὶ αὐτὸς προσδοκία ἐθνῶν. ¹¹ Binding𐤀𐤎𐤓𐤉 his foal𐤏𐤉𐤓𐤅 unto the vine,𐤋𐤂𐤐𐤍 and his ass's𐤀𐤕𐤍𐤅 colt𐤁𐤍𐤉 unto the choice vine;𐤅𐤋𐤔𐤓𐤒𐤄 he washed𐤊𐤁𐤎 his garments𐤋𐤁𐤔𐤅 in wine,𐤁𐤉𐤉𐤍 and his clothes𐤎𐤅𐤕𐤅 in the blood𐤅𐤁𐤃𐤌 of grapes:𐤏𐤍𐤁𐤉𐤌 δεσμεύων πρὸς ἄμπελον τὸν πῶλον αὐτοῦ, καὶ τῇ ἕλικι τὸν πῶλον τῆς ὄνου αὐτοῦ· πλυνεῖ ἐν οἴνῳ τὴν στολὴν αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐν σταφυλῆς σταφυλῆς τὴν περιβολὴν αὐτοῦ. ¹² His eyes𐤏𐤉𐤍𐤉𐤌 shall be red𐤇𐤊𐤋𐤉𐤋𐤉 with wine,𐤌𐤉𐤉𐤍 and his teeth𐤔𐤍𐤉𐤌 white𐤅𐤋𐤁𐤍 with milk.𐤌𐤇𐤋𐤁 𐤐 χαροποιοὶ οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ αὐτοῦ ὑπὲρ οἶνον, καὶ λευκοὶ οἱ ὀδόντες αὐτοῦ ἢ γάλα. ¹³ Zebulun𐤆𐤁𐤅𐤋𐤍 shall dwell𐤉𐤔𐤊𐤍 at the haven𐤋𐤇𐤅𐤐 of the sea;𐤉𐤌𐤉𐤌 and he shall be for an haven𐤋𐤇𐤅𐤐 of ships;𐤀𐤍𐤉𐤅𐤕 and his border𐤅𐤉𐤓𐤊𐤕𐤅 shall be unto Zidon.𐤑𐤉𐤃𐤍 𐤎 Ζαβουλὼν παράλιος κατοικήσει, καὶ αὐτὸς παρ’ ὅρμον πλοίων, καὶ παρατενεῖ ἕως Σιδῶνος. ¹⁴ Issachar𐤉𐤔𐤔𐤊𐤓 is a strong𐤂𐤓𐤌 ass𐤇𐤌𐤓 couching down𐤓𐤁𐤑 between two burdens:𐤄𐤌𐤔𐤐𐤕𐤉𐤌 Ἰσσαχὰρ τὸ καλὸν ἑπεθύμησεν, ἀναπαυόμενος ἀνὰ μέσον τῶν κλήρων· ¹⁵ And he saw𐤅𐤉𐤓𐤀 that rest𐤌𐤍𐤇𐤄 was good, and the land𐤄𐤀𐤓𐤑 that it was pleasant;𐤍𐤏𐤌𐤄 and bowed𐤅𐤉𐤈 his shoulder𐤔𐤊𐤌𐤅 to bear,𐤋𐤎𐤁𐤋 and became a servant𐤏𐤁𐤃 𐤎 unto tribute.𐤋𐤌𐤎 καὶ ἰδὼν τὴν ἀνόπαυσιν ὅτι καλή, καὶ τὴν γῆν ὅτι πίων, ὑπέθηκεν τὸν ὦμον αὐτοῦ εἰς τὸ πονεῖν, καὶ ἐγενήθη ἀνὴρ γεωργός. ¹⁶ Dan𐤃𐤍 shall judge𐤉𐤃𐤉𐤍 his people,𐤏𐤌𐤅 as one𐤊𐤀𐤇𐤃 of the tribes𐤔𐤁𐤈𐤉 of Israel.𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋 Δὰν κρινεῖ τὸν ἑαυτοῦ λαόν, ὡσεὶ καὶ μία φυλὴ ἐν Ἰσραήλ. ¹⁷ Dan𐤃𐤍 shall be a serpent𐤍𐤇𐤔 by the way,𐤃𐤓𐤊 an adder𐤔𐤐𐤉𐤐𐤍 in the path,𐤀𐤓𐤇 that biteth𐤄𐤍𐤔𐤊 the horse𐤎𐤅𐤎 heels,𐤏𐤒𐤁𐤉 so that his rider𐤓𐤊𐤁𐤅 shall fall𐤅𐤉𐤐𐤋 backward.𐤀𐤇𐤅𐤓 καὶ γενηθήτω Δὰν ὄφις ἐφ’ ὁδοῦ, ένκαθήμενος ἐπὶ τρίβου· δάκνων πτέρναν ἵππου, καὶ πεσεῖται ὁ ἱππεὺς εἰς τὰ ὀπίσω, ¹⁸ I have waited for𐤒𐤅𐤉𐤕𐤉 thy salvation,𐤋𐤉𐤔𐤅𐤏𐤕𐤊 O Lord.𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 τὴν σωτηρίαν περιμένων Κυρίου. ¹⁹ Gad,𐤂𐤃 a troop𐤂𐤃𐤅𐤃 shall overcome𐤉𐤂𐤅𐤃𐤍𐤅 him: but he shall overcome𐤉𐤂𐤃 at the last.𐤏𐤒𐤁 𐤎 Γάδ, πειρατήριον πειρατεύσει αὐτόν· αὐτὸς δὲ πειρατεύσει αὐτῶν κατὰ πόδας. ²⁰ Out of Asher𐤌𐤀𐤔𐤓 his bread𐤋𐤇𐤌𐤅 shall be fat,𐤔𐤌𐤍𐤄 and he shall yield𐤉𐤕𐤍 royal𐤌𐤋𐤊 𐤎 dainties.𐤌𐤏𐤃𐤍𐤉 Ἀσήρ, πίων αὐτοῦ ὁ ἄρτος, καὶ αὐτὸς δώσει τρυφὴν ἄρχουσιν. ²¹ Naphtali𐤍𐤐𐤕𐤋𐤉 is a hind𐤀𐤉𐤋𐤄 let loose:𐤔𐤋𐤇𐤄 he giveth𐤄𐤍𐤕𐤍 goodly𐤔𐤐𐤓 𐤎 words.𐤀𐤌𐤓𐤉 Νεφθαλεί, στέλεχος ἀνειμένον, ἐπιδιδοὺς ἐν τῷ γενήματι ²² Joseph𐤉𐤅𐤎𐤐 is a fruitful𐤐𐤓𐤕 bough,𐤁𐤍 even a fruitful𐤐𐤓𐤕 bough𐤁𐤍 by a well;𐤏𐤉𐤍 whose branches𐤁𐤍𐤅𐤕 run𐤑𐤏𐤃𐤄 over the wall:𐤔𐤅𐤓 Υἱὸς ηὐξημένος Ἰωσήφ, υἱὸς ηὐξημένος μου ζηλωτός. υἱός μου νεώτατος· ²³ The archers𐤁𐤏𐤋𐤉 𐤇𐤑𐤉𐤌 have sorely grieved him,𐤅𐤉𐤌𐤓𐤓𐤄𐤅 and shot𐤅𐤓𐤁𐤅 at him, and hated him:𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤈𐤌𐤄𐤅 εἰς ὃν διαβουλευόμενοι ἐλοιδόρουν, καὶ ἐνεῖχον αὐτῷ κύριοι τοξευμάτων· ²⁴ But his bow𐤒𐤔𐤕𐤅 abode𐤅𐤕𐤔𐤁 in strength,𐤁𐤀𐤉𐤕𐤍 and the arms𐤆𐤓𐤏𐤉 of his hands𐤉𐤃𐤉𐤅 were made strong𐤅𐤉𐤐𐤆𐤅 by the hands𐤌𐤉𐤃𐤉 of the mighty𐤀𐤁𐤉𐤓 God of Jacob;𐤉𐤏𐤒𐤁 (from thence is the shepherd,𐤓𐤏𐤄 the stone𐤀𐤁𐤍 of Israel:)𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋 καὶ συνετρίβη μετὰ κράτους τὰ τόξα αὐτῶν, καὶ ἐξελύθη τὰ νεῦρα βραχιόνων χειρὸς αὐτῶν ἐκεῖθεν ὁ κατίσχυσας Ἰσραήλ· παρὰ θεοῦ τοῦ πατρός σου. ²⁵ Even by the God𐤌𐤀𐤋 of thy father,𐤀𐤁𐤉𐤊 who shall help𐤅𐤉𐤏𐤆𐤓𐤊 thee; and by the Almighty,𐤔𐤃𐤉 who shall bless𐤅𐤉𐤁𐤓𐤊𐤊 thee with blessings𐤁𐤓𐤊𐤕 of heaven𐤔𐤌𐤉𐤌 above, blessings𐤁𐤓𐤊𐤕 of the deep𐤕𐤄𐤅𐤌 that lieth𐤓𐤁𐤑𐤕 under, blessings𐤁𐤓𐤊𐤕 of the breasts,𐤔𐤃𐤉𐤌 and of the womb:𐤅𐤓𐤇𐤌 καὶ ἐβοήθησέν σοι ὁ θεὸς ὁ ἐμός, καὶ εὐλόγησέν σε εὐλογίαν οὐρανοῦ ἄνωθεν, καὶ εὐλογίαν γῆς ἐχούσης πάντα· ἕνεκεν εὐλογίας μαστῶν καὶ μήτρας, ²⁶ The blessings𐤁𐤓𐤊𐤕 of thy father𐤀𐤁𐤉𐤊 have prevailed𐤂𐤁𐤓𐤅 above the blessings𐤁𐤓𐤊𐤕 of my progenitors𐤄𐤅𐤓𐤉 unto the utmost bound𐤕𐤀𐤅𐤕 of the everlasting𐤏𐤅𐤋𐤌 hills:𐤂𐤁𐤏𐤕 they shall be on the head𐤋𐤓𐤀𐤔 of Joseph,𐤉𐤅𐤎𐤐 and on the crown of the head𐤅𐤋𐤒𐤃𐤒𐤃 of him that was separate𐤍𐤆𐤉𐤓 from his brethren.𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤅 𐤐 εὐλογίας πατρός σου καὶ μητρός σου· ὐπερίσχυσεν ἐπ᾿ εὐλοίαις ὀρέων μονίμων, καὶ ἐπ᾿ εἰλογίαις θεινῶν ἀενάων· ἔσονται ἐπὶ κορυφῆς ὧν ἡγήσατο ἀδελφῶν. ²⁷ Benjamin𐤁𐤍𐤉𐤌𐤉𐤍 shall ravin𐤉𐤈𐤓𐤐 as a wolf:𐤆𐤀𐤁 in the morning𐤁𐤁𐤒𐤓 he shall devour𐤉𐤀𐤊𐤋 the prey,𐤏𐤃 and at night𐤅𐤋𐤏𐤓𐤁 he shall divide𐤉𐤇𐤋𐤒 the spoil.𐤔𐤋𐤋 Βενιαμεὶν λύκος ἅρπαξ· τὸ πρωινὸν ἔδεται ἔτι, καὶ εἰς τὸ ἑσπέρας δίδωσιν τροφήν. ²⁸ All these are the twelve𐤔𐤍𐤉𐤌 𐤏𐤔𐤓 tribes𐤔𐤁𐤈𐤉 of Israel:𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋 and this is it that their father𐤀𐤁𐤉𐤄𐤌 spake𐤃𐤁𐤓 unto them, and blessed𐤅𐤉𐤁𐤓𐤊 them; every𐤀𐤔𐤓 one𐤀𐤉𐤔 according to his blessing𐤊𐤁𐤓𐤊𐤕𐤅 he blessed𐤁𐤓𐤊 them. Πάωτες οὗτοι υἱοὶ Ἰακὼβ δώδεκα, καὶ ταῦτα ἐλάλησεν αὐτοῖς ὁ αὐτῶν· καὶ εὐλόγησεν αὐτοὺς ὁ πατήρ, ἕκαστον κατὰ τὴν εὐλογίαν αὐτοῦ εἰλόγησεν αὐτούς. ²⁹ And he charged𐤅𐤉𐤑𐤅 them, and said𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 unto them, I am to be gathered𐤍𐤀𐤎𐤐 unto my people:𐤏𐤌𐤉 bury𐤒𐤁𐤓𐤅 me with my fathers𐤀𐤁𐤕𐤉 in the cave𐤄𐤌𐤏𐤓𐤄 that is in the field𐤁𐤔𐤃𐤄 of Ephron𐤏𐤐𐤓𐤅𐤍 the Hittite,𐤄𐤇𐤕𐤉 καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Ἐγὼ προστίθεμαι πρὸς τὸν ἐμὸν λαόν· θάψατέ με μετὰ τῶν πατέρων μου ἐν τῷ σπηλαίῳ ὅ ἐστιν ἐν τῷ ἀγρῷ Ἐφρὼν τοῦ Χετταίου, ³⁰ In the cave𐤁𐤌𐤏𐤓𐤄 that is in the field𐤁𐤔𐤃𐤄 of Machpelah,𐤄𐤌𐤊𐤐𐤋𐤄 which is before𐤐𐤍𐤉 Mamre,𐤌𐤌𐤓𐤀 in the land𐤁𐤀𐤓𐤑 of Canaan,𐤊𐤍𐤏𐤍 which Abraham𐤀𐤁𐤓𐤄𐤌 bought𐤒𐤍𐤄 with the field𐤄𐤔𐤃𐤄 of Ephron𐤏𐤐𐤓𐤍 the Hittite𐤄𐤇𐤕𐤉 for a possession𐤋𐤀𐤇𐤆𐤕 of a buryingplace.𐤒𐤁𐤓 ἐν τῷ σπηλαίῳ τῷ διπλῷ τῷ ἀπέναντι Μαμβρὴ ἐν γῇ Χανάαν, ὃ ἐκτήσατο Ἀβραὰμ τὸ σπήλαιον παρὰ Ἐφρὼν τοῦ Χετταίου ἐν κτήσει μνημείου. ³¹ There they buried𐤒𐤁𐤓𐤅 Abraham𐤀𐤁𐤓𐤄𐤌 and Sarah𐤔𐤓𐤄 his wife;𐤀𐤔𐤕𐤅 there they buried𐤒𐤁𐤓𐤅 Isaac𐤉𐤑𐤇𐤒 and Rebekah𐤓𐤁𐤒𐤄 his wife;𐤀𐤔𐤕𐤅 and there I buried𐤒𐤁𐤓𐤕𐤉 Leah.𐤋𐤀𐤄 ἐκεῖ ἔθαψαν Αβραὰμ καὶ Σάρραν τὴν γυναὶκα αὐτοὺ· ἐκεὶ ἕκαστον κατὰ καὶ Ῥεβέκκαν τὴν γυναῖκα αὐτοῦ· ³² The purchase𐤌𐤒𐤍𐤄 of the field𐤄𐤔𐤃𐤄 and of the cave𐤅𐤄𐤌𐤏𐤓𐤄 that is therein was from the children𐤁𐤍𐤉 of Heth.𐤇𐤕 ἐκεῖ ἔθαψαν Λείαν, ἢν κτήσει τοῦ ἀγροῦ καὶ τοῦ σπηλαίου τοῦ ὄντος ἐν αὐτῷ παρὰ τῶν υἱῶν Χέτ. ³³ And when Jacob𐤉𐤏𐤒𐤁 had made an end𐤅𐤉𐤊𐤋 of commanding𐤋𐤑𐤅𐤕 his sons,𐤁𐤍𐤉𐤅 he gathered up𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤎𐤐 his feet𐤓𐤂𐤋𐤉𐤅 into the bed,𐤄𐤌𐤈𐤄 and yielded up the ghost,𐤅𐤉𐤂𐤅𐤏 and was gathered𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤎𐤐 unto his people.𐤏𐤌𐤉𐤅 Καὶ κατέπαυσεν Ἰακὼβ ἐπιτάσσων τοῖς υἱοῖς αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐξάρας τοὺς πόδας αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ τὴν κλίνην ἐξέλιπεν καὶ προσετέθη πρὸς τὸν λαὸν αὐτοῦ.
