Chapter 2 ¹ Thus the heavens𐤄𐤔𐤌𐤉𐤌 and the earth𐤅𐤄𐤀𐤓𐤑 were finished,𐤅𐤉𐤊𐤋𐤅 and all the host of them.𐤑𐤁𐤀𐤌 Καὶ συνετελέσθησαν ὁ οὐρανὸς καὶ ἡ γῆ καὶ πᾶς ὁ κόσμος αὐτῶν. ² And on the seventh𐤄𐤔𐤁𐤉𐤏𐤉 day𐤁𐤉𐤅𐤌 God𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤌 ended𐤅𐤉𐤊𐤋 his work𐤌𐤋𐤀𐤊𐤕𐤅 which he had made;𐤏𐤔𐤄 and he rested𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤁𐤕 on the seventh𐤄𐤔𐤁𐤉𐤏𐤉 day𐤁𐤉𐤅𐤌 from all his work𐤌𐤋𐤀𐤊𐤕𐤅 which he had made.𐤏𐤔𐤄 καὶ συνετέλεσεν ὁ θεὸς ἐν τῇ ἡμέρα τῇ ἕκτη τὰ ἔργα αὐτοῦ ἃ ἐποίησεν· καὶ κατέπαυσεν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ ἑβδόμῃ ἀπὸ πάντων τῶν ἔργων αὐτοῦ ὧν ἐποίησεν. ³ And God𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤌 blessed𐤅𐤉𐤁𐤓𐤊 the seventh𐤄𐤔𐤁𐤉𐤏𐤉 day,𐤉𐤅𐤌 and sanctified𐤅𐤉𐤒𐤃𐤔 it: because𐤊𐤉 that in it he had rested𐤔𐤁𐤕 from all his work𐤌𐤋𐤀𐤊𐤕𐤅 which God𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤌 created𐤁𐤓𐤀 and made.𐤋𐤏𐤔𐤅𐤕 𐤐 καὶ ηὐλόγησεν ὁ θεὸς τὴν ἡμέραν τὴν ἑβδόμην καὶ ἡγίασεν αὐτήν, ὅτι ἐν αὐτῇ κατέπαυσεν ἀπὸ πάντων τῶν ἔργων αὐτοῦ ὧν ἤρξατο ὁ θεὸς ποιῆσαι. ⁴ These𐤀𐤋𐤄 are the generations𐤕𐤅𐤋𐤃𐤅𐤕 of the heavens𐤄𐤔𐤌𐤉𐤌 and of the earth𐤅𐤄𐤀𐤓𐤑 when they were created,𐤁𐤄𐤁𐤓𐤀𐤌 in the day𐤁𐤉𐤅𐤌 that the Lord𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 God𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤌 made𐤏𐤔𐤅𐤕 the earth𐤀𐤓𐤑 and the heavens,𐤅𐤔𐤌𐤉𐤌 Αὕτη ἡ βίβλος γενέσεως οὐρανοῦ καὶ γῆς, ὅτε ἐγένετο· ᾗ ἡμέρᾳ ἐποίησεν Κύριος ὁ θεὸς τὸν οὐρανὸν καὶ τὴν γῆν, ⁵ And every plant𐤔𐤉𐤇 of the field𐤄𐤔𐤃𐤄 before𐤈𐤓𐤌 it was in the earth,𐤁𐤀𐤓𐤑 and every herb𐤏𐤔𐤁 of the field𐤄𐤔𐤃𐤄 before𐤈𐤓𐤌 it grew:𐤉𐤑𐤌𐤇 for𐤊𐤉 the Lord𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 God𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤌 had not𐤋𐤀 caused it to rain𐤄𐤌𐤈𐤉𐤓 upon the earth,𐤄𐤀𐤓𐤑 and there was not𐤀𐤉𐤍 a man𐤅𐤀𐤃𐤌 to till𐤋𐤏𐤁𐤃 the ground.𐤄𐤀𐤃𐤌𐤄 καὶ πᾶν χλωρὸν ἀγροῦ πρὸ τοῦ γενέσθαι ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς, καὶ πάντα χόρτον ἀγροῦ πρὸ τοῦ ἀνατεῖλαι. οὐ γὰρ ἔβρεξεν ὁ θεὸς ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν, καὶ ἄνθρωπος οὐκ ἦν ἐργάζεσθαι τὴν γῆν· ⁶ But there went up𐤉𐤏𐤋𐤄 a mist𐤅𐤀𐤃 from𐤌𐤍 the earth,𐤄𐤀𐤓𐤑 and watered𐤅𐤄𐤔𐤒𐤄 the whole face𐤐𐤍𐤉 of the ground.𐤄𐤀𐤃𐤌𐤄 πηγὴ δὲ ἀνέβαινεν ἐκ τῆς γῆς καὶ ἐπότιζεν πᾶν τὸ πρόσωπον τῆς γῆς. ⁷ And the Lord𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 God𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤌 formed𐤅𐤉𐤉𐤑𐤓 man𐤄𐤀𐤃𐤌 of the dust𐤏𐤐𐤓 of𐤌𐤍 the ground,𐤄𐤀𐤃𐤌𐤄 and breathed𐤅𐤉𐤐𐤇 into his nostrils𐤁𐤀𐤐𐤉𐤅 the breath𐤍𐤔𐤌𐤕 of life;𐤇𐤉𐤉𐤌 and man𐤄𐤀𐤃𐤌 became a living𐤇𐤉𐤄 soul.𐤋𐤍𐤐𐤔 καὶ ἔπλασεν ὁ θεὸς τὸν ἄνθρωπον χοῦν ἀπὸ τῆς γῆς· καὶ ἐνεφύσησεν εἰς τὸ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ πνοὴν ζωῆς, καὶ ἐγένετο ὁ ἄνθρωπος εἰς ψυχὴν ζῶσαν. ⁸ And the Lord𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 God𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤌 planted𐤅𐤉𐤈𐤏 a garden𐤂𐤍 eastward𐤌𐤒𐤃𐤌 in Eden;𐤁𐤏𐤃𐤍 and there𐤔𐤌 he put𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤌 the man𐤄𐤀𐤃𐤌 whom𐤀𐤔𐤓 he had formed.𐤉𐤑𐤓 Καὶ ἐφύτευσεν Κύριος ὁ θεὸς παράδεισον ἐν Ἔδεμ κατὰ ἀνατολάς, καὶ ἔθετο ἐκεῖ τὸν ἄνθρωπον ὃν ἔπλασεν. ⁹ And out𐤌𐤍 of the ground𐤄𐤀𐤃𐤌𐤄 made𐤅𐤉𐤑𐤌𐤇 the Lord𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 God𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤌 to grow every tree𐤏𐤑 that is pleasant𐤍𐤇𐤌𐤃 to the sight,𐤋𐤌𐤓𐤀𐤄 and good𐤅𐤈𐤅𐤁 for food;𐤋𐤌𐤀𐤊𐤋 the tree𐤅𐤏𐤑 of life𐤄𐤇𐤉𐤉𐤌 also in the midst𐤁𐤕𐤅𐤊 of the garden,𐤄𐤂𐤍 and the tree𐤅𐤏𐤑 of knowledge𐤄𐤃𐤏𐤕 of good𐤈𐤅𐤁 and evil.𐤅𐤓𐤏 καὶ ἐξανέτειλεν ὁ θεὸς ἔτι ἐκ τῆς γῆς πᾶν ξύλον ὡραῖον εἰς ὅρασιν καὶ καλὸν εἰς βρῶσιν· καὶ τὸ ξύλον τῆς ζωῆς ἐν μέσῳ τῷ παραδείσῳ, καὶ τὸ ξύλον τοῦ εἰδέναι γνωστὸν καλοῦ καὶ πονηροῦ. ¹⁰ And a river𐤅𐤍𐤄𐤓 went out𐤉𐤑𐤀 of Eden𐤌𐤏𐤃𐤍 to water𐤋𐤄𐤔𐤒𐤅𐤕 the garden;𐤄𐤂𐤍 and from thence it was parted,𐤉𐤐𐤓𐤃 and became into four𐤋𐤀𐤓𐤁𐤏𐤄 heads.𐤓𐤀𐤔𐤉𐤌 ποταμὸς δὲ ἐκπορεύεται ἐξ Ἔδεμ ποτίζειν τὸν παράδεισον· ἐκεῖθεν ἀφορίζεται εἰς τέσσαρας ἀρχάς. ¹¹ The name𐤔𐤌 of the first𐤄𐤀𐤇𐤃 is Pison:𐤐𐤉𐤔𐤅𐤍 that𐤄𐤅𐤀 is it which compasseth𐤄𐤎𐤁𐤁 the whole land𐤀𐤓𐤑 of Havilah,𐤄𐤇𐤅𐤉𐤋𐤄 where𐤀𐤔𐤓 there is gold;𐤄𐤆𐤄𐤁 ὄνομα τῷ ἑνὶ Φεισών· οὗτος ὁ κυκλῶν πᾶσαν τὴν γῆν Εὑειλάτ, ἐκεῖ ἐστιν τὸ χρυσίον· ¹² And the gold𐤅𐤆𐤄𐤁 of that𐤄𐤄𐤅𐤀 land𐤄𐤀𐤓𐤑 is good:𐤈𐤅𐤁 there is bdellium𐤄𐤁𐤃𐤋𐤇 and the onyx𐤄𐤔𐤄𐤌 stone.𐤅𐤀𐤁𐤍 τὸ δὲ χρυσίον τῆς γῆς ἐκείνης καλόν· καὶ ἐκεῖ ἐστιν ὁ ἄνθραξ καὶ ὁ λίθος ὁ πράσινος. ¹³ And the name𐤅𐤔𐤌 of the second𐤄𐤔𐤍𐤉 river𐤄𐤍𐤄𐤓 is Gihon:𐤂𐤉𐤇𐤅𐤍 the same is it that compasseth𐤄𐤎𐤅𐤁𐤁 the whole land𐤀𐤓𐤑 of Ethiopia.𐤊𐤅𐤔 καὶ ὄνομα τῷ ποταμῷ τῷ δευτέρῳ Γηών· οὗτος ὁ κυκλῶν πᾶσαν τὴν γῆν Αἰθιοπίας. ¹⁴ And the name𐤅𐤔𐤌 of the third𐤄𐤔𐤋𐤉𐤔𐤉 river𐤄𐤍𐤄𐤓 is Hiddekel:𐤇𐤃𐤒𐤋 that is it which goeth toward𐤄𐤄𐤋𐤊 the east𐤒𐤃𐤌𐤕 of Assyria.𐤀𐤔𐤅𐤓 And the fourth𐤄𐤓𐤁𐤉𐤏𐤉 river𐤅𐤄𐤍𐤄𐤓 is Euphrates.𐤐𐤓𐤕 καὶ ὁ ποταμὸς ὁ τρίτος Τίγρις· οὗτος ὁ πορευόμενος κατέναντι Ἀσσυρίων. ὁ δὲ ποταμὸς ὁ τέταρτος, οὗτος Εὐφράτης. ¹⁵ And the Lord𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 God𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤌 took𐤅𐤉𐤒𐤇 the man,𐤄𐤀𐤃𐤌 and put him into the garden𐤁𐤂𐤍 of Eden𐤏𐤃𐤍 to dress𐤋𐤏𐤁𐤃𐤄 it and to keep𐤅𐤋𐤔𐤌𐤓𐤄 it. καὶ ἔλαβεν κύριος ὁ θεὸς τὸν ἄνθρωπον ὃν ἔπλασεν καὶ ἔθετο αὐτὸν ἐν τῷ παραδείσῳ, ἐργάζεσθαι αὐτὸν καὶ φυλάσσειν. ¹⁶ And the Lord𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 God𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤌 commanded𐤅𐤉𐤑𐤅 the man,𐤄𐤀𐤃𐤌 saying,𐤋𐤀𐤌𐤓 Of every tree𐤏𐤑 of the garden𐤄𐤂𐤍 thou mayest freely𐤀𐤊𐤋 eat:𐤕𐤀𐤊𐤋 καὶ ἐνετείλατο Κύριος ὁ θεὸς τῷ Ἀδὰμ λέγων Ἀπὸ παντὸς ξύλου τοῦ ἐν τῷ παραδείσῳ βρώσει φάγῃ· ¹⁷ But of the tree𐤅𐤌𐤏𐤑 of the knowledge𐤄𐤃𐤏𐤕 of good𐤈𐤅𐤁 and evil,𐤅𐤓𐤏 thou shalt not eat𐤕𐤀𐤊𐤋 of it: for in the day𐤁𐤉𐤅𐤌 that thou eatest𐤀𐤊𐤋𐤊 thereof thou shalt surely𐤌𐤅𐤕 die.𐤕𐤌𐤅𐤕 ἀπὸ δὲ τοῦ ξύλου τοῦ γινώσκειν καλὸν καὶ πονηρόν, οὐ φάγεσθε ἀπ’ αὐτοῦ· ἧ δ’ ἂν ἡμέρᾳ φάγησθε ἀπ’ αὐτοῦ, θανάτῳ ἀποθανεῖσθε. ¹⁸ And the Lord𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 God𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤌 said,𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 It is not good𐤈𐤅𐤁 that the man𐤄𐤀𐤃𐤌 should be𐤄𐤉𐤅𐤕 alone; I will make𐤀𐤏𐤔𐤄 him an help meet𐤏𐤆𐤓 for him. Καὶ εἶπεν Κύριος ὁ θεός Οὐ καλὸν εἶναι τὸν ἄνθρωπον μόνον. ποιήσωμεν αὐτῷ βοηθὸν κατ’ αὐτόν. ¹⁹ And out of the ground𐤄𐤀𐤃𐤌𐤄 the Lord𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 God𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤌 formed𐤅𐤉𐤑𐤓 every beast𐤇𐤉𐤕 of the field,𐤄𐤔𐤃𐤄 and every fowl𐤏𐤅𐤐 of the air;𐤄𐤔𐤌𐤉𐤌 and brought𐤅𐤉𐤁𐤀 them unto Adam𐤄𐤀𐤃𐤌 to see𐤋𐤓𐤀𐤅𐤕 what he would call𐤉𐤒𐤓𐤀 them: and whatsoever Adam𐤄𐤀𐤃𐤌 called𐤉𐤒𐤓𐤀 every living𐤇𐤉𐤄 creature,𐤍𐤐𐤔 that𐤄𐤅𐤀 was the name thereof.𐤔𐤌𐤅 καὶ ἔπλασεν ὁ θεὸς ἔτι ἐκ τῆς γῆς πάντα τό θηρία τοῦ ἀγροῦ κα πάντα τὰ πετεινὰ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ, καὶ ἤγαγεν αὐτὰ πρὸς τὸν Ἀδὰμ ἰδεῖν τί καλέσει αὐτά· καὶ πᾶν ὁ ἐὰν ἐκάλεσεν αὐτὸ Ἀδὰμ ψυχὴν ζῶσαν, τοῦτο ὄνομα αὐτοῦ. ²⁰ And Adam𐤄𐤀𐤃𐤌 gave𐤅𐤉𐤒𐤓𐤀 names𐤔𐤌𐤅𐤕 to all cattle,𐤄𐤁𐤄𐤌𐤄 and to the fowl𐤅𐤋𐤏𐤅𐤐 of the air,𐤄𐤔𐤌𐤉𐤌 and to every beast𐤇𐤉𐤕 of the field;𐤄𐤔𐤃𐤄 but for Adam there was not found𐤌𐤑𐤀 an help meet𐤏𐤆𐤓 for him. καὶ ἐκάλεσεν Ἀδὰμ ὀνόματα πᾶσιν τοῖς κτήνεσιν καὶ πᾶσι τοῖς πετεινοῖς τοῦ οὐρανοῦ καὶ πᾶσι τοῖς θηρίοις τοῦ ἀγροῦ· τῷ τε Ἀδὰμ οὐχ εὑρέθη βοηθὸς ὅμοιος αὐτῷ. ²¹ And the Lord𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 God𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤌 caused𐤅𐤉𐤐𐤋 a deep sleep𐤕𐤓𐤃𐤌𐤄 to fall upon Adam, and he slept:𐤅𐤉𐤉𐤔𐤍 and he took𐤅𐤉𐤒𐤇 one𐤀𐤇𐤕 of his ribs,𐤌𐤑𐤋𐤏𐤕𐤉𐤅 and closed up𐤅𐤉𐤎𐤂𐤓 the flesh𐤁𐤔𐤓 instead thereof; καὶ ἐπέβαλεν ὁ θεὸς ἔκστασιν ἐπὶ τὸν Ἀδάμ, καὶ ὕπνωσεν. καὶ ἔλάβεν μίαν τῶν πλευρῶν αὐτοῦ καὶ ἀνεπλήρωσεν σάρκα ἀντ’ αὐτῆς. ²² And the rib,𐤄𐤑𐤋𐤏 which the Lord𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 God𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤌 had taken𐤋𐤒𐤇 from man,𐤄𐤀𐤃𐤌 made𐤅𐤉𐤁𐤍 he a woman,𐤋𐤀𐤔𐤄 and brought𐤅𐤉𐤁𐤀𐤄 her unto the man.𐤄𐤀𐤃𐤌 καὶ ᾠκοδόμησεν Κύριος ὁ θεὸς τὴν πλευράν, ἢν ἔλαβεν ἀπὸ τοῦ Ἀδάμ, εἰς γυναῖκα· καὶ ἤγαγεν αὐτὴν πρὸς τὸν Ἀδάμ. ²³ And Adam𐤄𐤀𐤃𐤌 said,𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 This𐤆𐤀𐤕 is now𐤄𐤐𐤏𐤌 bone𐤏𐤑𐤌 of my bones,𐤌𐤏𐤑𐤌𐤉 and flesh𐤅𐤁𐤔𐤓 of my flesh:𐤌𐤁𐤔𐤓𐤉 she𐤋𐤆𐤀𐤕 shall be called𐤉𐤒𐤓𐤀 Woman,𐤀𐤔𐤄 because she𐤆𐤀𐤕 was taken𐤋𐤒𐤇𐤄 out of Man.𐤌𐤀𐤉𐤔 καὶ εἶπεν Ἀδάμ Τοῦτο νῦν ὀστοῦν ἐκ τῶν ὀστέων μου καὶ σὰρξ ἐκ τῆς σαρκός μου. αὕτη κληθήσεται Γυνή, ὅτι ἐκ τοῦ ἀνδρὸς αὐτῆς ἐλήμφθη αὕτη. ²⁴ Therefore𐤊𐤍 shall a man𐤀𐤉𐤔 leave𐤉𐤏𐤆𐤁 his father𐤀𐤁𐤉𐤅 and his mother,𐤀𐤌𐤅 and shall cleave𐤅𐤃𐤁𐤒 unto his wife:𐤁𐤀𐤔𐤕𐤅 and they shall be one𐤀𐤇𐤃 flesh.𐤋𐤁𐤔𐤓 ἕνεκεν τούτου καταλείψει ἄνθρωπος τὸν πατέρα αὐτοῦ καὶ τὴν μητέρα αὐτοῦ, καὶ προσκολληθήσεται τῇ γυναικὶ αὐτοῦ· καὶ ἔσονται οἱ δύο εἰς σάρκα μίαν. ²⁵ And they were both𐤔𐤍𐤉𐤄𐤌 naked,𐤏𐤓𐤅𐤌𐤉𐤌 the man𐤄𐤀𐤃𐤌 and his wife,𐤅𐤀𐤔𐤕𐤅 and were not ashamed.𐤉𐤕𐤁𐤔𐤔𐤅
